I‘m sad that the card is very underwhelming. It would be very funny when it would be the chase rare of the set and the people hate it to play it due to the artwork.
I will confess that mtg has conditioned me to expect 5/5 demons to have flying rather than menace, so my initial estimations of this card were a bit too generous. Still not bad, though.
All flying demons have wings in their artworks. The Kamigawa demons don‘t have wings.
I don‘t know where the problem is with mixing science fiction and fantasy. This was already done often in the past:
- Shadowrun takes place in a futuristic cyberpunk world in which the ‚old magic‘ came back.
- Buffy had with ‚Adam‘ a cyber-enhanced demon/vampire hybrid as the big bad in season 4
- A lot of superhero stories have a mix of sci-fi and fantasy (=> e.g. in the Marvel Cinematic Universe)
- The Wolfenstein games contain occult forces and cyber-enhanced supersoldiers
- ‚Sword and Planet‘ like Masters of the Universe
Honestly said: the High Fantasy standards as de facto established by Lord of the Rings 70 years ago became too dominant from my side of view.
I‘ve always thought that CoK era Kamigawa takes place in present time of the Multiverse. But now it‘s seems that Neon Dynasty is doing this instead.
But: why does Tamiyo looks like she is from the CoK era?
Wow dude, I think it's time everybody stepped away from their computer. It's just cardboard with ******* dragons and fairies on them.
The idea that people cannot have opinions or criticisms about something they enjoy is asinine at best and stupid's second cousin at worst.
You can have an opinion, but it's still 7 pages discussing opinions about cardboards having gandalf on it and not random grey wizard. People are losing their minds way too much about this. Everybody needs to chill a bit, it's just a ******* game.
Maybe some people are afraid that this is the end of THEIR game for which they spend 50k and a kidney.
I play since 2004 and there were several ‚Magic is dead‘ moments:
- Future Sight: Futureshifted card frames
- Lorwyn: Planewalkers
- Alara: Mythic rarity
- M10: new terms (cast, battlefield, exile)
- Innistrad: double face cards
- Ixalan: Pirates vs. Dinosaurs
- The Guildwatch as Avengers wannabes
- Secret Lair Drops
- Ikoria: Kaiju artworks
My love for the game survived them all.
But this could maybe the Jump the Shark moment of MtG.

It‘s only done once because the removing of a counter is part of the costs for activating the ability.

Is this a plothole or is this retcon?

Yes. I want The Fonz as a legendary creature and his Jacket as an Equipment.
