  • posted a message on Three 2 cmc cards leaked for kamigawa neon dynasty (light paws, a vehicle, and a kami/spirit)
Light Paws is so clunkily worded to make sure that you can still get blown out by playing auras in your deck. It triggers off of auras entering the battlefield, but only if they were cast...if it only triggers on auras you cast, WHY isn't it a cast trigger? I mean, this card is literally a Grizzly Bear unless you are filling your deck with a bunch of what are (historically) one of the least competitively useful card types, so of course it needs to have a whole bunch of hoops to jump through.

Uprising is a very interesting design, as unlike a lot of "create X tokens" effects, 2/2s with vigilance, menace, and haste are actually somewhat legitimate creatures. I think there will be two distinct possible homes for it, aggressive decks looking to just push through the last bit of damage, and decks that break the symmetry of it somehow.

  • posted a message on Infinite(?) damage question
So I know that you can't use (for example) two Nomads en-Kor and a Furnace of Rath to generate an arbitrarily large amount of damage by moving damage back and forth between them, doubling it each time, because of the rules on replacement effects ever only applying once to a given event.

However, if instead of using Nomads en-Kor, I have a Boros Reckoner with a Darksteel Plate equipped, I CAN generate infinite damage by dealing a single point of damage to the Boros Reckoner, which doubles to 2, triggering the Reckoner and letting it deal 2 damage to itself, which doubles to 4, which triggers the Reckoner and lets it deal 4, which doubles to 8, and so on, because every time the triggered ability of the Reckoner resolves it creates a "new" event of damage being dealt, so the Furnace of Rath effectively gets to apply its doubling effect over and over again, correct?

Yea, a card that over the course of a couple turns, will turn your entire board of creatures into 6/6 flyers is going to win a LOT of games of limited.

Arguably scarier than Mizzix as it only takes one spell to "fully charge" Vadrik whereas if you haven't already accumulated any experience counters Mizzix can take a second to get going. In theory, you could literally just play a land and pass the first 3 turns with Vadrik before killing the table on turn 4...Mizzix is at least a little more forgiving in that regard.

This guy seems gross in EDH. Red has no shortage of one mana plus 3 power effects (heck even blue has Unstable Mutation), and just casting one Infuriate on this guy should probably let you play through your entire deck in one turn. What's super cute with this guy also is that one pump spell puts him at the magic 4 power to enable you to go infinite with any ritual (or similar effect like Frantic Search) alongside Reiterate. I very much look forward to killing tables with this guy out of nowhere once this set comes out.

New Wrenn seems interesting, but at a certain point, it's like "what are you even doing with all that mana/those lands" that you need/want 14 lands or something on the battlefield, since it already costs 5 mana to play.

Well...I guess you can play the "how many basics are you running?" game in any format where Loam is legal, because you could easily get to a point where you have 3 Ghost Quarter, Wasteland, Field of Ruin, or whatever in your bin and you can loop that every turn.

I really don't like the perpetual mechanic. Both seek and conjure are fine, as they basically already have paper analogues (searching a library and creating a token copy). Yes, seek is random and conjure actually *makes* a new object that is actually a card, They aren't actually *breaking* any of Magics rules, more just doing something that, under them, would be difficult or impossible to resolve accurately. Perpetual, on the other hand, asks to ignore a major rule that is at the heart of significant numbers of card interactions...objects changing zones become (effectively) new objects. This, unlike the other mechanics, is not just asking to do something that would be unfeasible in paper, but also something the rules are expressly *not* okay with allowing. Idk, maybe I'm just a Magic boomer, but that mechanic really just rubs me the wrong way.

Yay, red can finally answer a Lovestruck Beast and actually trade UP on mana...only took 3 months before rotation for it to happen lol

Seems like a powerful payoff for a deck that can reliably get your opponent into topdeck mode, as if you have enough discard effects in your deck, they are never realistically going to be able to have the extra card to pitch to its Ward trigger.

  • posted a message on Void Winnower and Overloaded Cyclonic Rift (Mana Value)
Shouldn't it be "Beth CANNOT cast an overloaded Cyclonic Rift" in the reply above? Since Alvin controls the Void Winnower that says in part "Your opponents can't cast spells with even mana values," Cyclonic Rift with its mana value of two would not be legal for any other player to cast, overloaded or not.

Man, not one, but TWO good merfolk one drops in one set? Someone at WotC must really love their fishy friends. Ok, so technically this is more of a two drop, but still this is either a one mana 2/2 or a two mana 2/2 that cuts one of your opponents lands off of colored mana....that's pretty dang good.

Dies this card single-handedly beat modern dredge? They can't remove it, it exiles every dredger except loam and salvage, stops conflagrate flashback, stops creeping chill, and prevents recursion of bloodghast, amalgam, and ox...that's basically dredges entire deck right there minus 4 copies of narcomoeba.

So do multiples of these in play exponentially grow token production in a similar manner to a Doubling Season style effect? In other words, if you have just one copy in play, and you go to create a food token, it will replace that event with creating a food, clue, and treasure instead. Now if you have two, my understanding is that you have to pick one of the replacement effects to apply to the event first as stated above, but now the second replacement effects is applying to an event that is creating one of each kind of token, and thus will replace the food with one of each, the clue with one of each, and the treasure with one of each, so you end up with 3 total of each kind.

So in general (assuming I'm mathing correctly), the resulting number of each kind you end up with is M*3^(N-1), where M is the number of tokens the original effect had you create, and N is the number of Academy Manufacturers you control...bonus points if you decide to throw in Doubling Season effects in there as well.

Flame Rift seems like it could be new best friends with Scourge of the Skyclaves as a handy way to always give it +4/+4
