The problem with this deck is that it isn't really aggressive enough to pressure reactive or combo decks and doesn't interact enough to stop fast aggro or com o strategies.
I think that going overboard with Blink effects over hatebears like D&T only makes the deck weaker as it is less disruptive.
Another potential approach can be the more control-oriented version like Mono White Emeria:
I will agree Ephermerate is better than cloud shift and I have switched it out.
I will say this deck is quite resilient and eerie interlude helps mask a lot of board wipes. I have played some top decks like Mono G tron, mono red phoenix, amulet titan and the deck felt pretty competitive. If I was wanting to play a tournament level blink deck I'd probably play the bant with soulherder but this is surprising decent and main deck worship tends to be instant win.
I just wanted to post a fun deck that I played at a modern event yesterday. I have played this style of deck on and off which always seem to do pretty good against the meta because it can be hard to deal with.
I have played abzan version and bant but Mono white is so straight forward but plays similiar to a death and taxes deck. So if you are looking for a fun deck to try out that is FNM competitive, give it a shot.
I definitely like to try out Giver of runes instead of Thraben inspector once I get them. I also think the card mana tithe would be a fun card to catch people off guard.
That would probably be the best choice in all honesty. I tried to think of a card that would work better but nothing comes to mind.
I think I may need to bump Whir up to 3 cards or maybe 4 to search for the combo pieces. Since the deck doesn't have the goblin engineer that hurts the ability to search for the combo. Also I wish I could add Ancient Stirrings but I don't think that would be worth adding green for. I could try adding serum visions possible.
That was the one thing nice about astrobale for the card draw, fixing mana colors and being able to tap for mana with urza.
Looking good. I'd suggest taking out the Astrolabe though. You only have 6 lands that can cast it. While it's a good cantrip artifact, there will be games where you can't play it in time.
The much abrew deck did way better than it should have. Taking out the results and putting in sword theater would make the deck much better.
I can see maybe running chromatic star instead astrolable to help cover the white mana. My goal is going to have lots of card drawings because I am not running Goblin engineers to help find the thopter package.
Nothing crazy groundbreaking. Beat Dredge (2-1), UW Control (2-0), MonoU Tempo (2-1), and Hardened Scales (2-0)
Probably going to drop 1-2 of the Pentad Prisms for something else, maybe squeeze some Serum Visions back into there. Otherwise everything in the main felt good. Sideboard I didn't actually get to use the Cyclonic Rift, but I think I may swap the 2 blood moon for 2 Teferi and swap a Hallowed Fountain into the main.
Decklist looks pretty solid, I was curious how you fwlt about the pentad prism? I wasn't the biggest fan of them when I tried two in my deck on Monday.
I am going to run with this list tonight and see how it pans out. I will give my updated on monday for how it works out.
So last FNM was a beating with this deck, I ended up going 1-3. This is the first time with this deck that I been trounced. All the games were comepeteive and went to 3 but I ended up getting the short stick. The deck didn't draw the greatest and wasn't my night.
Match 1: U/G Flash snow creature deck, game went to 3 and they were all close games. Lost
Match 2: R/W burn, went to 3 games and wasn't able to get head with the lifegain. Game 3 he got creatures out unlike game 1 & 2, plus I never saw sideboard cards. Lost
Match 3: Riddlesmith/Urza deck: went 3 games, chalice hurt me game 1 and 3. went to time and he had me beat. Lost
Bye
There were 3 different urza decks floating around at my FNM counting me. One deck was a top deck and he ran more card draw, +4 chromatic stars, +4 ichor wellspring, no engineer and U/B. The deck drew cards like crazy and he was a very good KCI player.
I am going to take a break this week on the Grixis deck, I think it is a very powerful deck but I think the format is going to open up more which more artifact hate will be more prevalent.
On the side, I have been tinkering with a Tron land Urza/Thopter deck for fun and last night I saw a saffron olive variant of Urza with tron lands using unexpected results. He ended up going 4-1 and I thought maybe I could make a u/W version with thopter sword combo and karn as a back up. This deck list is in the deck creation forum area.
So last night I watched a video that Saffron Olive created using tron lands with Urza. The deck ended up being piloted to a 4-1 victory beating tier 1 decks.
So I thought maybe I could run this same build for a thopter/Swoird version for fun. I have played the grixis version and I thought if we could get more mana with Tron then we could go off sooner possibly, have more mana to spin the urza wheel and play Karn turn 3 for a tron win.
Also maybe paradox engine could be thrown in to keep spinning the urza wheel.
This has all happened before, and it will happen again. Pentad prism is bad! BAD I TELL YOU!
JLambe, list looks good. I personally think 3 whir is where we want to be right now, but I do understand the card is now flexible. Give Deputy of Detention a try out of the board, (probably over explosives), and I think you will find yourself boarding him in and finding him useful more often than you'd think.
Alright, I'll try Deputy of Detention tonight instead of engineering explosives. I would like 3 whirs but I don't know what I would take out or I drop goblin engineer to 3 and +1 whir to the deck.
I would be interested in seeing people sideboard options against other decks. For the most part this deck 85%-90% set and everyone is playing the same version.
I've seen some people praising Pentad Prism for speeding up the combo by a turn. Honestly, I've yet to have them do that. So far they've been fine, but underwhelming. They've never been particularly bad, or particularly good
Yeah that is how I felt and same with the Scrap trawler combo stuff. I understand the situation where that could go off but never happened for me.

Played against 2 UW, Jund, Valakut. I wouldn't go under 4 foundry, when your plan is to T2 goblin for sword, then have the highest % of hitting either Whir or Foundry itself.
Might go down back to 20 lands, but when I board in so many 4 drops (Tezz), it seems necessary.
Nice work and really like your list! How are you finding Tezzeret and Time Sieve? They’re pet cards of mine and eager to get them into the deck so keen to hear your thoughts.
do you miss not have a white land for help with teferi?
Has anyone tested thirst for knowledge in this new urza deck. I can see it helping goblin engineer for moving cards into the graveyard and helping with card draw.
I figured I could start from here and I don't know if the thopter foundry is the right direction but it s good start because it is a free win with those three cards out.
Can't see that doing any good. You have concepts that work? I do find it funny that urea doesn't appear to have much synergy with his own lands.
I don't have any concepts on paper but I thought I could start with Mono U tron set up. Just seems like a fun deck when you could exploit the shuffle and play the top card on top to get a big creature or artifact that is game changing. Then if that doesn't happen you got tron mana to really pay for that big creature.
I wasn't thinking it as a competitive deck but more of a fun idea and maybe fun FNM deck.
Has anyone tinkered with the concept of running a Urza themed deck with Urza tron lands and Urza, Lord High Artificer? I was just curious before I start tinkering with the concept? Possibly a U/G version or Mono U version?
