    Quote from menma
That's more than 15 words, since the Name counts as one word. You're missing a word anyway (...basic land card from your hand into....).

The name counting as one word, if i understand, means that if your card has a three word name and appears in the rules text, the whole name counts as one word. Basically "~" counts as one word no matter what your card's name is. The 15 words applies only to the rules text.

EDIT: Wrong thread. I have reported it to the Moderators that be.

    The Grovewatch
    GGGGG
    Legendary Creature - Elemental
You may play The Grovewatch without paying its mana cost if the amount of G in your mana pool is 10 or greater.
    Trample
    The Grovewatch is indestructible.
    7/7

    Prismatic Dragon 5
    Aritfact Creature - Dragon
You may play Prismatic Dragon without paying its mana cost if there is at least one mana of each color in your mana pool.
    Flying
    4/4

So basically you just have to have a use for all that mana, or be willing to feel the burn, and you get to play them for free. (you also need to be able to produce it in the first place.)

So in a previous thread I was posting cards with abilities that relied on the mana in your pool.

They used to be phrased like this:

T: Draw a card. Play this ability only if the amount of U in your mana pool is 3 or greater.

It would be much easier, however, if they could be phrased like this:

T: Draw a card. Play this ability only if you could pay UUU.

Allowing for me to easily phrase things like this:

T: You gain 3 life. Play this ability only if you could pay 2WW.

I know its not precedented, but is it possible to use this phrasing?

Yay! Glad to win one of these, especially with a card that pertains to something I've been working on (although I call it trader in my set, not merchant, mainly for the type-line's sake on legends.)

ANYWAY, so now I get to give a challenge.

I think that an untapped design space is the mana pool itself. That's why I want you to make a card that would fit into a mana-pool matters block. Keep in mind, the card should care about the mana IN YOUR POOL. This does NOT include mana you spend or the colors of mana things COULD produce.

For example, here's my card from the DCC a couple days ago:
    Thunderous Abundance 2R
    Sorcery
Thunderous Abundance deals X damage to target creature or player, where X is the amount of mana in your mana pool.

I hope you get what I mean, and happy mana pooling. I will judge when there are at least 12 entries, or mid-day sunday, whichever comes first.

I'm adding the following card to the main post, and right here. Also, I decided to not ability word it, because I'm realizing it would be on like over half the cards.

    The Grovewatch GGGGG
    Legendary Creature - Elemental
You may play The Grovewatch without paying its mana cost if the amount of G in your mana pool is 10 or greater.
    Trample
    The Grovewatch is indestructible.

    Thunderous Abundance 2R
    Sorcery
Fruition — Thunderous Abundance deals X damage to target creature or player, where X is the amount of mana in your mana pool.

    Aven Worldgazer 3U
    Creature - Bird
    Flying
Fruition T: Draw a card. Play this ability only if there is at least UUUin your mana pool.
    2/2

For the above card, I'm not sure if that's a valid phrasing or if i should say "at least three blue mana" but I think what I have works.

    Thriving Beast 1G
    Creature - Beast
    Trample
Fruition G: Put a +1/+1 counter on Thriving Beast. Play this ability only once per turn and only if there is at least four mana in your mana pool.
    2/1

My question here is does it check the mana in your mana pool to make sure your play is legal before or after you pay the cost. In other words, do you need four available mana to play the ability or five?

    Torturous Abundance 2B
    Sorcery
Fruition — Target player discards X cards, where X is the amount of mana in your mana pool.

    Call of the Thriving 3GG
    Enchantment
Fruition — Whenever a creature comes into play under your control, put X +1/+1 counters on it, where X is the amount of mana in your mana pool.

    Exact Change 2UU
    Enchantment
Fruition — Whenever a player plays a spell, if there is mana in that player’s mana pool, counter that spell.

    Abundant Arrows 2W
    Instant
Fruition — Destroy X target attacking creatures, where X is the amount of mana in your mana pool.

    later edit:

    The Grovewatch GGGGG
    Legendary Creature - Elemental
You may play The Grovewatch without paying its mana cost if the amount of G in your mana pool is 10 or greater.
    Trample
    The Grovewatch is indestructible.

    3. Glorious Gnome
    4. Surge
    5. CobyChin
    6. Kami of Randomness
    7. Ikeda

    Some might call me judgemental
    " Karasu">
    Bonus - 2/2
Balance - 6.5/10 While the card makes me ask a lot of questions, none of them have to do with balance. This seems fair, if not wonderful at uncommon. These days people don't play that many enchantments it seems, and this card might not see much play, but with Alara who knows, but since Alara isn't out now, going off of what exists, I don't think there are enough great enchantments to make this playable. I get the monocolor hybrid for splashing, but it still just seems not quite good enough, especially in limited where its power level would otherwise be most suited.
Flavor - 2.5/5 I like the deal with the scattering winds, but I have to take off for your art choice (no art) and also feel that Solar winds sound a bit more hurtful than tapping. I'm also taking off for the monocolor hybrid seeming out of place. However, that said, the flavor of wind and reflection goes together nicely.
Creativity - 3/4 The keyword, (although I don't think it would be keyworded,) is interesting and new. The mechanic of the aura is not, though. That's really all I have to say here.
Quality - 2.5/4 Consider this .75 off each for not having a render and for keywording something that seems far too specific to keyword.
    16.5/25

Bonus - 1/2 You know what you did.
Balance - 7.5/10 So lets see, we have a card that, without the optional effect, kinda sucks, but with the effect goes over the curve, but only slightly. I'd say this card is well made, despite not appearing so at first glance. If you pair this with another spell, its almost like Counsel with a little bonus. The weakness is that without the card draw its so weak that, except in some limited formats, nobody would play it that way, which isnt necessarily awful, I just think a card with options should be playable with all options.
Flavor - 1.5/5 Its a somewhat bland name that fits the mechanics but has no flavor text.
Creativity - 1.5/4 We've seen all these things before and this isn't really a twist on it even.
Quality - 1.5/4 I think the art is just below standards, it'd say "his or her" on a card, and there would be a comma before "draw two cardS"
    13/25

    Bonus - 2/2
Balance - 5.5/10 This card feels very weak for a rare these days. The hero himself, without the angel part, would be costed at WW and even then not be rare, while the angel would be costed at 2WW and also not be rare. If this card were costed to make it a balanced cost for the soldier and not the angel, it would be a different story, but as it is now, this card feels very underpowered. Why do I need to have this soldier die in order to get an angel? I get that 2 for the price of 1 creatures are good, but this is 2 for the price of 1.5, which is really under the curve for a rare. This could've been partially solved I feel by giving the angel more abilities, or making it apply to all soldiers somehow (but changing some other things.) Lastly, though, this feels the most fitting for a monocolor card challenge among my judging pool.
Flavor - 4/5 While I find the flavor text a bit too blunt, the idea behind the flavor is very good, and because your intent is obvious and easy to follow, I am only taking off a point for the bluntness of the text. However, as I said in Balance, the flavor wants me to see a card that affects all soldiers.
Creativity - 1.5/4 This card doesn't really do anything we haven't seen before, and most of the creative aspects are really just the flavor of the card. I mean, the turning into angel thing is creative in a sense of it being logical, but its really a flavor thing.
Quality - 3/4 Half a point off for the art not looking that blessed, what with the cloak and blood, and another for there not being an enter between the flavor text and the citation.
    Total: 16/25

    Bonus - 2/2
Balance - 8.5/10 I'm going to be comparing this to sower of temptation a lot, and I feel like it's a slight bit, but not much at all, under the curve and thus quite balanced. In terms of power and toughness its harder to kill, but in order to use its control gaining ability, you need to basically incapacitate it. Also, when it gains control of a creature, the creature is turned into crap, while sower gets you the creature as is. One advantage to yours, however, is that the creature does not need to be in play when the keeper comes into play, and you can switch creatures at will. Overall, I'd say the disadvantages outweigh the advantages, but only by a very small amount, making this a balanced card. However, I have to take .5 off in addition to the 1 I was already taking off because of considerations for sacrifice outlets.
Flavor - 3.5/5 I like the flavor a lot, but I'm not sure if magic would cite the muppets, and also not sure how a frog keeper actually turns things into frogs. I know "gain control of target frog" wouldn't be that good, but it seems like the ability the flavor demands.
Creativity - 3/4 It's a good play on sower of temptation-ish cards. I think that gaining control of creatures but making them not particularly useful is clever.
Quality - 3/4 I don't think the art is quite what MTG wants for its faerie's, and it should be "you lose control..."
    Total: 20/25

Bonus - 1/2 You know what you did.
Balance - 9.5/10 This guy's got a lot in combat going on to consider. He can become a 5/2 Trample when blocked, and he makes all your other attackers sligtly more powerful, which I really see as the more powerful ability. If you had a 3/2 creature for 2RR that said "Other attacking creatures you control get +1/+0" I think that would be very balanced. By giving him a self-pumping ability you would bring him over the curve, but you give his attackers ability a condition (that he himself is attacking) and thus maintain a very good balance. I think this is a good limited playable card that is very much where uncommon needs to be. I might've even made him a 3/3 though.
Flavor - 4.5/5 The flavor text is a bit clunky and wordy, but the message is good. Also, I love the art.
Creativity - 1.5/4 There's really nothing here that's all that clever. Putting these abilties together has no inherent synergy outside of flavor, and the card, though good, is not necessarily innovative.
    Quality - 4/4 Yup.
    Total: 20.5/25

    Bonus - 2/2
Balance - 6.5/10 The question for me when I first saw this was should it be common. You have to reveal a card in your hand, and barring some recent hybrids there are going to be very very few times you will be fatesealing more than 3. The draw a card is sort of the only saving grace for its power level, but still isn't enough. This would be a good card at common, but just feels too weak at uncommon.
Flavor - 3/5 The name and text don't match the card very well to me. I don't think anything is made clear by you muddling with your opponent's library. The only connection is that something in your hand is revealed. The name and flavor text work together, just not with the mechanics of the card.
Creativity - 3/4 I think this is a very blue feeling use of chroma, which I'm glad to see. It's also a sensible reincorporation of fateseal.
Quality - 3/4 I think it should just say "reveal a card from your hand" or "you may reveal a card from your hand." Also, the first X in the render shouldn't be mana-ized.
    Total - 17.5/20

    Bonus - 2/2
Balance - 8.5/10 At uncommon, this guy would still start with a lower power, to me. I'd see a 2/2 or him costing 2GG. A minor thing, of course, but just making him seem slightly over the curve, when you consider that he could become quite large if not handled. That said, it's sort of a green enchantment that reads "Creatures can't attack you unless it is worth it or they can handle this dude." Which is interesting. I mean, he has no inherent way to protect himself, so I think he's not overpowered, just perhaps very slightly over the curve in terms of green controlling, especially with Trample.
Flavor - 5/5 Clever text, not wordy and well phrased, fits the name, fits the card. Hooray!
Creativity - 3.5/4 This is a good thing for an avenger to be, and it has been many things in MTG. I mean, I've seen the idea of this tossed around before, but you put it together in a very good package.
    Quality - 4/4 Yup.
