Ali from Cairo would make a beautiful legendary creature and certainly a different playstyle for red!

I run this and vandalblast in just about every red/x deck I have. If it's worth running once, it's worth twice, at least in my meta. I don't have good ways to search for it, so redundancy is a good thing.

Price of progress seems a little busted in the shock heavy format that is modern. I think fireblast would be less broken and it's still too powerful. That said, I am hoping for quiet speculation to go with the lava dart. That card has applications, I think.

Artifacts are your bane? Here are some options that weren't already mentioned.

Hurkyl's recall (If you get another way to deal with him having hexproof...ways have been mentioned in above posts)
Furnace Dragon (I LOVE running this guy. Artifacts go poof forever)
Titania's song (and people thought march of the machines was good....., this does the same thing but also removes their abilities.)
Consulate crackdown (when they just reallllly need to go away but mine get to stay! well, white has a lot of options)

  • posted a message on is mono white actually that bad.
It's true that white suffers because most other colors get more raw card draw. Better ramp is hogwash because most mono colored decks other than green have to use artifacts to cover that. White is no less than them. In fact, in terms of land fetch, it's best behind green. Just not in land ramp ( as in, putting more lands on the battlefield than your 1 per turn).

White has lots of card advantage, but it typically comes in the form of removal or token generation. If you're using your 1 card to blow up 10 opponents cards, then you've got card advantage.

For a more casual meta (not CEDH), white is very fair and can keep control of a game for a very long time simply by playing a few wraths and 2 for 1 removal (there are several options). A few fat fliers that are hard to deal with can finish it out, any of those that you mentioned being excellent candidates.

Play to the color's strengths, and you can do fine. White is about synergy and fairness, not especially broken win conditions. If you want a fun commander that is pretty effective, try an odric, lunarch marshal build. Keyword soup is fun if they all get it. Especially bonkers can be archangel of thune and odric, lunarch marshal.

If you want a fair build, go with hatebears. White has a lot and now everyone plays the fair game. Especially effective in a meta full of card drawing, tutoring fools! If you believe that white isn't fair, just play balance effects. You'll be quite amazed at how one of these can put the ball back in your court.

If you want card advantage out the wazoo, play anthems and some token makers. That can win games, too. It's not card draw, but then again white has a lot of equipment tutors and skull clamp has already been mentioned.

White makes an excellent reanimator color, not just limited to creatures. By reanimator, I mean putting permanents from your graveyard to the battlefield.

  • posted a message on Has anyone ever completed a deck?
Only until they print another card that could go in. I just acquired the last "maro" available in colors for my maro tribal deck today. For now, it is complete (at least the maro part). I am sure that sooner or later, there will be many other cards that make it into the list!

  • posted a message on question About urborg tomb of yawgmoth?
What taleran says is correct, but it might be a bit unclear. To sum it up, having the land type-mountain, means it can produce R. Similarly,
    Plains: W
    Island: U
    Forest: G
    Swamp: B

Since you have a basic mountain, and urborg is giving it the swamp type also, then it can produce R or B.

Rakdos is an incredibly difficult deck to pilot. Before I revised it more towards demon tribal, I had a high win rate, but all too often I won through repay in kind+lich. I got rid of lich: it is a good combination of cards, but I don't like 2 card combos, however out of left field they are. I kept repay in kind as my deck does tend to kill itself quickly.

One of the things I have been having trouble with in mind is early game interaction, so I added a bit more. Innocent blood, terminate, dreadbore, bedevil, malicious affliction, etc. all help me deal with problematic cards from my opponents. I also focused a bit more on the sacrifice-yoink theme as it allows for a more interactive game than nothing + a huge explosive turn where I get my 2 cards and win.

Incidentally, I love the random element of plays in the deck. My favorite play of all in the deck has been black source, dark ritual, entomb, sire of insanity, reanimate. I have gotten it precisely twice (on my first turn) Evil Lol . This is what piloting this deck is all about, crazy stuff!

If you're blinking things, any thoughts on shrieking mogg? It seems as if it comes down early enough to matter and surely makes life miserable for you opponents. Blinking it a few times will make them hate you and you won't be attacked anymore.

It is a mono white list, which pretty much means angels and humans galore. She would reanimate all of my magi (I run all the white magi as they are powerful enough to warrant inclusion and are a fun sub theme), knight of the white orchid (about the only mana ramper she would reanimate, sadly), my lifegain options (resolute archangel, ancestor's chosen) and powerful end game disruption (iona, shield of emeria, angelic arbiter, reya dawnbringer, emeria shepherd, chancellor of the annex, etc. ) . It's enough to give it a thought, that's for sure.

Well, the difference between my list and yours is the commander. My commander has the "discard two cards" aspect to consider, which is one of the reasons I do run all of the taxing effects and card draw that I do. it is also the reason I run crucible of worlds since the cards I pitch most (outside of reanimatable creatures) is land. That, and for some strange reason my commander tends to draw a lot of hate.... Evil Lol Maybe I should pick up a bruna for it as well. It seems like it is doing great things as your commander.

Actually, I have had enough times where the deck draw significant lands that I am considering ghirapur orrery. Any thoughts? I understand that it is a bad idea to help your opponents out, but with crucible (and many ways to get it back), land tax, etc. it seems as if it might help me more. The draw 3 will likely never matter and I do run both cataclysm and magus of the balance to offset any disadvantage.

Incidentally, I purchased another endless atlass for my mono white list. It has been an insane early draw. I added resolute archangel as one of two nasty lifegain sources in the deck (the other being ancestor's chosen) and I had a 6 man table a bit salty at the mono white decks resilience and staying power (and their lack of non-land permanents....). I had a setup where I had an active emeria and an active reya dawnbringer at the same time. I had the reya burned out followed by another player's armageddon while I had a smothering tithe out....They didn't think that one through. Two turns later I topdecked crucible of worlds for the scoop.

That is a shame. Mangara is a busted little creature when you get a sacrifice engine going. She does a lot of work in my Archangel Avacyn stack control list.

Donate it to a opponent before the third counter and then flash in a dictate of the twin gods as an instant win condition? Pretty bad, but funny.
