Shambling Ghast looks interesting for several archetypes if not obviously outrageous in anything. Granted I'm God awful out of date on the peasant cube world, but trying to get back into it.
And exactly what I needed for Slimefoot. This and Stupid Sexy Yawgmoth and the Talisman have me stoked to get changes made and get to the table (crosses fingers and hopes for Three Visits reprint soon).
Talismans are all I ever wanted for the past decade. Now that we have them, they're so beautiful. *sniff*
*dabs corner of left eye with kleenex, sniffles* I am so happy! Unexpected to see these quintuplets, but welcome for sure!
These are really the first cards in the set to get me excited. I have played the Mirrodin Talisman cycle in almost all decks that could since I started EDH. Now I have a set of ten to jam into my commander "Cube".
Guardian Idol is a pet card of mine from way back when I played a 60 card Death Cloud deck. I use it pretty regularly still in edh in my more casual builds. It isn't spectacular but it is a solid role player. I played it in Jor Kadeen stax and it outperformed there.
4/5 - Nostalgia. I have been throwing around ideas for a Pox inspired deck for years but just can't settle on my commander.
2.5/5 -Reality. Sometimes a card is just mediocre, but you jam it in decks anyways and sometimes it puts in work.
But you need 2 other artifacts for it to do anything! That means it's fair in all ways, right?
Exactly! What are the odds of having 3 artifacts early game?
I used it in my Jor Kadeen build and loved it. It helped me power out a turn 2 Jor a couple of times and was just generally a really awesome card. Plus I got mine in my prerelease pool so I don't have to worry about modern messing up prices.
This is how I feel too. I am going to build it as a goodstuff deck with a bunch of cool blue and green cards I've never played before or haven't played in years.
I love Coldsteel Heart. I have played it in most of my mono black and mono red decks (never built mono blue). I also use it in Bladewing the Risen because that deck is super mana hungry and plays a ton of rocks. I never see it much in the wild, which I am a little surprised by.
For the moment I would say Slimefoot, the Stowaway. I went all in on it as a combo deck with ways to make tons of Saproling tokens and sacrifice them. I also added in Grafted Exoskeleton and some ways to buff the tokens and Exsanguinate as a way to use infinite mana if needed.
Well, other than what tstorm notes, the only reason I can think to run this guy instead of Phyrexian Altar would come down to availability and budget. The Altar has gotten very pricey, and I think it's also on the Reserved list.
If you really want this effect, it might be worth running both, though. Redundancy can be good.
Altar isn't reserved. I really don't know why it is so expensive.
I like Thermopod, I've played it a few times with middling success. It would be so much better if it cost less, it would probably be an auto include at CMC 3 or less.
One of my most satisfying moments as a player is from casting Assemble the Legion. I got my magical Christmasland moment; I drew into all of my most broken mana sources, dropped a Smokestack turn one, followed it up with Assemble on turn two. The sound of a table scooping in surround sound turn 2 is pretty good.

Me too. The one I have is in terrible shape.
