  • posted a message on [Doylestown PA] Playsets of Staples Tournament- Sat, Jan 5th Force, LED, Waste, more!
Get ready to ring in the new year with Cyborg One's 2nd Super Legacy Tournament. We've got prizes galore! This time around we have playsets of some of the most powerful cards in the Legacy format:

    4 Lion's Eye Diamond
    4 Force of Will
    4 Wasteland
    4 Flooded Strand
    4 Dark Confidant

Come on out with Cloudpost, MUD, and Affinity, and you too can win the cards to play a real man's deck!

Here's how the prizes for the Top 8 will break down. There will be a draft for the prizes, just like our last event.
1st Place will get two playsets of the above cards. They will make the first choice and receive the playset that isn't selected by the others in Top 8.
2nd Place will get the next choice of playset.
3rd and 4th Place will split a playset with 2 cards each. The player with the higher seed will make the choice of what playset to split.
5th-8th will split one of the remaining sets, again with the highest seed making the pick, and each person receiving one card from that set (The set not chosen here is awarded to 1st place).

Event entry is $25. We're hoping to see lots of you, so this event will be held in the larger Mr. Chips' School of Real Estate venue (where we hold SCG IQs). Ask us if you need directions! We want to end registration at 2:00 and start round 1 then so please come on time. Cyborg One will be buying and selling at the event.

Decklists are required. Options for decklists:
    - Come early and fill one out on the sheets provided.
    - Print it out and fill it out at home (or fill it out then print it) using a decklist sheet of your choice.
    - Before the event, email your decklist to [email]decklists@cyborg1.com[/email] with the subject "Super Legacy Decklist." Include your name as it appears in the DCI database at the top of the email. Deck name optional.

How exactly does setting up a gauntlet work?

You'd sleeve or proxy up the format staples for people to playtest against. I usually do this at my local shop as well.

If he had Sun Titan in his deck, he clearly would've won the finals. There are just so many times you want a 6 against Jund and Sun Titan is just what you need. Even if he sideboarded it, it should've been somewhere.

The token created will not be exiled with the Giantbaiting token since that isn't a copiable characteristic. It will continue to be a token on the battlefield.

It always depends on the situation, really- but generally will allow you to play around more potential spells from your opponent. Say the chain is A Lightning Bolt, B Counterspell, C Counterspell, D Cancel. Here, allowing B & C to resolve allows you to play around Spell Snare because you would no longer care about your Counterspell (B).

You may not get around Disciple's ability in that way. Think about this way instead- Disciple of Bolas is creating a brand new ability. The sacrifice happens while it's ability resolves, and while that ability is resolving, you may not activate other abilities. You must always fully complete a spell or ability before doing anything else so you'll never be able to activate two spells or abilities at once (There are some exceptions to this- but it's not worth getting into here).

I hope this helps you better understand why it can't work like that.

Oblivion Ring and Fiend Hunter work the same way. I just want to clarify what is happening.

When you bounce the Ring in response to it's first ability, it returns the permanent to the battlefield before the permanent even leaves- meaning it cannot return it again, exiling it indefinitely. You may exile another permanent, but you will have to recast Oblivion Ring to do so.

    Quote from bocephus
You miss understand what I said, I dont think cards that have been reprinted with modern frames form the years before the set times of Modern should be legal in the format. I really could care less if they are pet cards, powerful cards, or what not. Only cards originally printed between 8th and present should be legal. If a reprint fell in those time frames, then it shoudlnt be legal in the format. That means barter in blood, rancor, arms dealer, or any other reprint from the 'old' days.

The problem is that this would be insanely confusing. You would have to know every card legal in Modern as well as every card not legal.

  • posted a message on [Primer] [WGB] Doran // Junk .. If you ain't 'bout Doran, then we don't mess wit' ch'all.
Here is what I've been working on. I call it JUNKd

The idea is to beat Jund using the power of Finks, Souls, and Gavony Township with Glittering Wish for utility. Otherwise, you are Jund with Paths in leu of Bolts. Let me know what you think Smile

EDIT: Now that I have some more time, some thoughts on the deck. Firstly, I love Junk and I've been set on trying to make Knight of the Reliquary work in Modern. While Knight does shine against the control decks, I don't think he does enough in the Jund matchup. The theory with this deck is to have a very good maindeck against Jund with Glittering Wish giving you a powerful versatile tool. Many of the cards play dual roles in the deck and the ones that don't get boarded out; Thoughtseize and Path to Exile.

On the topic of Glittering Wish...
With Glittering Wish, you should always have Fracturing Gust- it's one of the best targets. I also knew I wanted graveyard hate so Jund Charm and Rakdos Charm both went on the table. For a while I was playing Rakdos Charm for Graveyards and Golgari Charm for the -1/-1 and the regenerate. (Note: Rakdos's life loss ability should almost never be good when your opponent can see it coming.) I realized Jund charm has the best of these abilities and saves valuable space. Regardless, I was splashing red. Is this greedy while still playing colorless lands? Probably. Four other things I knew I wanted were lifegain, land destruction, removal, and something to wish for against Jund and Control. Lifegain being finks just makes sense since it's cheap though I did think about others. The thought process behind not grabbing Huntmaster or Loxodon Hierach was that if you can muster the 4 mana choice, Sorin may be viable. LD was a tricky one. I was pretty sure I wanted Realm Razor as that card is a huge game changer and that's what Glittering Wish wants though I felt like having access to Fulminator Mage would also be good if you need to keep on of the Tron decks off mana early. With spaces so tight, I'm only playing one removal spell- though many times I "wish" I could've gotten Abrupt Decay (usually with 4 mana staring down a Bob). Pulse hits Pod and multiple threats which is why I like it but I could see this changing, especially with access to Jund Charm already for tokens. Lastly, Sorin fills the lategame and hard to remove role. The other choices were Sigarda, whose WW scared me (though she's still defendable- I also didn't like that she could be worse than Goyf), and Wurm Harvest, which was too slow in the Deathrite Shaman mirror. Huntmaster is also good- though worse against wrath effects from control decks (better than Sigarda there). I havent' tested Huntmaster or Ajani.

So there's 300 words on Glittering Wish... Smile

    I've said it since this format's inception and I will say it again;
Force of Will, Legacy; Thoughtsieze, Modern
It, along with Inquisition, is just the most versatile, powerful, and cheapest defensive spell against the field.

There's a two reasons you wont get a hippo from this interaction here.
    1) The reason you described. You'll Sac your hippo with Betrayal on the stack still.
    2) Grave Betrayal only triggers when a creature dies that you didn't control.

Yes. Pithing Needle and Revoker both stop activated abilities of cards even when they're not in play and Forecast in considered an activated ability (noted by the ";" in the text).
