Ravager Affinity? Huh? This is Vial Affinity. I can see closing down the other thread because the op was confusing but Vial Affinity and Ravager Affinity are two different decks with completely different strategies that run different colors. I suppose both decks could be talked about in the same thread but now I have to redo my op to compensate for the addition.

I would not be surprised at all, the sample decklist on Ravager Affinity primer runs Vials.

Yeah, that primer was just slapped together. The sample decklist is horrible and untested. Vial is horrible in RA, slows it down a turn. Chromatic Star + Shrapnel Blast over Vial in RA any day.

Except Grip has split second. So we can't use CBTop to counter it.

Counterbalance still triggers when a Split Second spell is on the stack so if you have a 3cc card on top when a Grip is cast you can counter it.

    Right.

    1. You contradicted yourself.

    2. The point your trying to get across is?

Yes, Pyrostatic Pillar is horrible for this deck. When facing combo with this deck your best chances are Chalice of the Void @ 0, Duress/Cabal Therapy, or Ethersworn Canonist.

Yep, for this reason that i use only 1 Extirpate and 1 Mortify.

But, you have any suggestion for a card that can be replaced the Extirpate and Mortify slot?

    Thanks man.

-1 Extirpate -1 Mortify -1 Duress/Ethersworn Canonist +3 Swords to Plowshares/Path to Exile. Your taking up 2 slots for Kataki, War's Wage hate with 2 sub-par cards that can be replaced with something better like Swords/Path. You can easily come down either a Duress or a Canonist with adding Swords because not only does it add creature hate but when combo storms on you, you can Swords a creature in response to gain life. So going this route you will be playing 8-10 combo hate cards plus being able to take out creatures like Kataki and since those who side Kataki only side 2 maybe 3 you should not have that much of a problem handling it.

Yeah, and it also slow you down 1 whole turn.

Vials are not that good against aggro, most of the time I side them out if im not facing control.

This is true but, you can normally make other plays to make Vial your 3rd spell of the turn and also VA makes up for the loss in speed with dropping Master's for free on turn 4. When I do side out Vial (which is hardly ever) I normally only side out 1, the advantage of playing dudes for free is too great to overlook no matter what match up your playing (besides combo).

I'm not too sure about Vintage but I know for a fact Legacy is alive and only getting bigger here in KC, MO.

If you don't mind me asking, why did you choose to run Duress over Thoughtseize? I can appreciate that in this particular matchup Duress is better, but wouldn't Thoughtsieze be a better card to run in general?

Duress is ran over Thoughtseize for a couple of reasons. 1) The hate that Affinity needs to hit can be done with Duress without paying 2 life 2) The 2 life is not worth playing Thoughtseize because the only thing it can hit that Duress can not that we need to worry about is Kataki, which is not played at all really.

Has anyone thought running Swords to Plowshares? I guess that would make aggro match-ups lots better, becouse it is not only a removal, but also a massive lifegain for white mana when combined with Cranial Plating.

Yes, people have. And the conclusion that it normally comes to is that StP is anti-synergy for the deck. Making your opponent gain life is the exact opposite of what you are trying to accomplish which is kill as fast as possible, and StP gives you opponent another turn or 2 in some cases. The most common hate that is played against us are cards like Krosan Grip that have split second so you can't StP in response to removal anyway and your taking up slots in the deck you don't need to.

I didn't know that was you Mini Me, congrats. Now that I think about I saw your first report a couple of pages back and thought nothing of it for some reason.

I dropped it because although it did help color fix, it felt dead A LOT of the time.

I'm testing without right now, and I feel more comfortable using the deck without it, but I will still test some more and report my results.

Please do report because I can never see taking SLD out of my lists. The times it does come up dead for me they make great Ravager food but other than that I can't see losing the early turn plays it gives you.

On a side note look at this: http://www.deckcheck.net/deck.php?id=28620

Finally, a Vial Affinity list top 4's in a 32 man event. I hope to see more after these results. It's right up there with Zoo, Goblins, Loam, and Thresh :toot:.

Well, there are three of us that seem to disagree with you (including the comment on MTGCast). And you're missing my point. Yes they can joke about Magic, but then they're just another Magic podcast. The reason there was no Vintage or Legacy coverage was explained in another episode; no one on the show really plays it.

OMG!! Not a whopping 3 of you!! Compared to the total listening base 3 people is not even a drop in the bucket, and I'm pretty sure the listeners who play Legacy and Vintage that listen to the show make up more than 3 people and want to hear about those formats. Just because they don't play the formats doesn't mean they can't find somebody who does and bring them on the show so they can appeal to a larger listener base and get more ratings/sponsors to keep the show going. And again your missing the point... BATTLE CATTLE HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH MAGIC!!!!! And they are going to lose listeners by talking about non Magic related material thus losing sponsors thus losing the show eventually... it's a slippery slope. People want to tune in to hear about Magic that's why it's called Monday Night Magic, they don't tune in to hear 3-4 guys blab on about a game that has nothing to do with Magic for a 1/2 hour... it was a waste of my time staring at my screen for 1/2 hour listening to garbage (and I love the show).

Please, link me to all these so called Magic podcasts that talk about Legacy or Vintage since there is so many of them apparently. <-- This proves my point, if MNM isn't talking about relevant info I'll take my ratings elsewhere and listen to somebody that is (I'm pretty sure that the sponsors don't like to hear that).

That's what makes Monday Night Magic different and more memorable than other Magic podcasts.

Your missing the point, the show is called Monday Night Magic not Monday Night Battle Cattle. They can be funny and talk only about magic and magic related items. Battle Cattle has absolutely nothing to do with Magic. There was a lot of information they could have reported on but there was no Vintage, or Legacy coverage for the past weekend at all... no fire alarm jokes.... you know something that interests listeners that actually has something to do with the game of Magic.

I must disagree, the last 20 minutes of the show was so hilarious I was laughing out loud, getting weird looks from everyone around.

Well sure, even I said it was funny stuff but what did it have to do with Magic?? That's why I turned it off.
