My first thought was "I prefer Seb's art" which is often the case, but McKinnon sounds like he's possibly problematic with some of his beliefs. Potentially. I only know he was really into the freedom truck convoy thing at one point early on, but I long ago lost track of the thread. In any case, folks that can't (or won't, which is fair) separate the art from the artist can use an alternate card now, which is a good thing.
That's too much disappointment considering you can easily buy this deck and then change it to include whatever sub-pirate theme you might want. You could say it was a 3 on the disappointment scale, given that, but anything over is pure hyperbole. The reason they didn't do pirates seems like they really wanted to lean on tribal Horrors, and if you add a second tribe you completely dilute the first tribe, I don't even know if it's tribal at that point. It's just a deck with a bunch of horrors and pirates living together.
I'm assuming Uchuulon is only a 1/4 when you play him, even though he's a Crab, Ooze, and Horror himself with the wording of the card, but I can't be sure. Any thoughts? On your end step, assuming you have a target to exile from a graveyard and create a second Uchuulon they would both be 2/4 then, right? Not 6/4, surely.
Is putting the first spell cast on the bottom of the library a replacement effect to it otherwise going to the graveyard? So you do still get the first spell on the stack and then the next "free" spell will go on the stack on top and resolve first?
I'm confused - isn't this just the buy-a-box reward for picking up a Collector's Box? Presumably no one is buying that box for the bonus - they want the premium flavor of cards in the box, or to re-sell it.
Comments like this for example - you pay $200 for the box, that's why you are there. This is just icing, I guess. It's not for me, but I don't understand the ire. Be angry at Collection Booster boxes instead?
Bolt Bend doesn't copy the ability, it just changes the target. You can change the target to another player (including the controller of the lantern) but then you have a second bolt bend on the stack, so all you can do with that bolt bend is change the target of the ability to something else. In fact, without anything else to target, I'm not sure you can even say "no thanks, I'll decline" - you HAVE to pick a new target. Hopefully you have another player other than yourself to target. I suppose you could bolt bend your own bolt bend, but then to what end?
My LGS asked me if I wanted to pre-order these boxes, and they have great prices without fail, so I said yeah, put me down for two Set Booster boxes. $215 each. I hesitated but went for it, and I'm glad I did. This is about a month ago or so.
Future Sight Mechanic: C'mon Gravestorm! (I'd be down for Facepalm...I mean Fateseal).
'buster
I did a little research on this yesterday and believe Gravestorm is correct. I used the Wiki to make a list of mechanics that haven't been used since and disregarded mechanics that have been but in a different name (like Poisonous became Infect), and that led to a list like Absorb and Fateseal. But Fateseal was sort of used in a Jace (the big one), and referencing the doc Maro posted earlier the only mechanic that didn't have a caveat ("R&D told me to stop trying to use this mechanic (frenzy)" or "this slowed the game down to much (absorb)" or "This felt too mean (Fateseal)") was Gravestorm. He just mentions it and moves on. So that's my guess, and why.
I don't know if this means anything, but I was trying to find the "status" of the recent Secret Lairs (to see if mine was shipping soon, dangit) and instead the Secret Lair page is just "Coming Soon" in what I believe is multiple languages, so another drop seems likely... today? Tomorrow?
Absolute perfection.
Looks like you guys called it, I saw one of the cards (Wiretapping) featured Hideaway. Nice!

A fun anecdote for the art behind this.
