Thanks Jay for your work. I really enjoy the articles and I think they fill a precious void.

At the same time, I also like your approach of linking or hosting other sources when the recaps already exist. On that note, you mentioned some time
a blog by Squirle_Master. Which one is it?
    Quote from Jay13x »

I know this ends up being quite of bit of pre-mending lore that I'll miss, but Squirle_Master covers that so well in his blog that it's not worth me treading into a lot of it.

    Quote from Entropy
It feels almost unfair that attending (and performing any better than horribly) one GP will almost instantly qualify you for a bye to the next, while for those who's never been before don't really stand a chance.
I actually think it's a bit better this way. I'm a L2 from Italy and I've been judging all the PTQs and GPs I could've attended this last season but still, if I won one more game rather than going 6-3 at the only Competitive tournament I attended (GP Madrid) that alone would've given me a bye for the next season and qualified me for my country's nationals. I don't call that proving that you're a good player, that's just having a decent sealed once and remembering to attack Grin

Just a Day 2 at a GP doesn't make you bye worthy, in my opinion. A day 2 plus a couple of strong finishes at a PTQ do, and the new thresholds better reflect that.

I'm undecided, I'm not sure the designer explored all the options. Seems a bit... lazy. I would have done a wide starburst that pokes out onto the top black edge.
The top black edge needs to stay completely black if you want to use the card in PTQs and other competitive tournaments, otherwise you can notice the miracle just by looking sideways at your deck (even with sleeves) and know you're about to draw it, change your actions based on that, etc. For the same reason professional artworkers never paint on the border even when doing full-art.

This is just beautiful. I'm sure we'll have an Arcana of this in a couple of weeks, but it's nice to see it now.

This is one of the latest block events, and I can assure the numbers are lower than they used to be in first weeks following the release... We had just WB tokens, WBG tokens, GW tokens and some RW...

I believe it's the kind of card they're willing to ban, not expensive, not key in any deck (those decks still work, only less efficiently), and doesn't force people to maindeck Ray of Revelion just as a meta call.

711.9a If a checklist card is used, the double-faced card it represents must be set aside prior to the beginning of the game (see rule 103.1a) and must be available throughout the game. A checklist card can't be included in a deck unless it is representing a double-faced card.

This one caught my eye. Rule 103.1a is the rule for setting aside your commander face up. Right now it says nothing about other cards.
Quote from Matt Tabak in the last Update Bulletin »
103.1a I wanted a rule that gave some direction as to when you set aside double-faced cards that are represented by checklist cards in your deck, also subtly reminding players that such double-faced cards should not be included in your deck. As sideboards operate under much the same principle, they got included in the rule as well.
The comprehensive rules take some time to get completely edited after the changes are made public; when the new ones will be out, you're problem will be solved.

Is this a misprint? Because you obviously want to tap an untapped creature if possible with Claustrophobia; moreover usually FAQs specify instead that this type of aura or similar spells could target an already *tapped* creature (or permanent if it's the case).
    I agree with you.

I think the finally got it. Casual players hate it when their cards turn against them, which is why all the new tribal lords aren't like Elvish Champion anymore. R&D also continually strives to correctly develop what they think is a cool design, and we had a perfect example of both these pursuits in Caged Sun, Gauntlet of Power's son and Gauntlet of Might's grandson. I hope they'll keep doing this, the aesthete in me greatly appreciates it.

  • posted a message on Incorrect head judge?
I'm not comfortable with a judge playing in an event he's judging, but I guess it happens at Regular REL. When this happens, you can point out to the judge what is the precise rule you think he's misapplying (WRONG attitude: "How can you say something like that? Are you retarded?"; RIGHT attitude: "Are you sure? Have you considered the fact that after this action I should get priority, not my opponent?"). If he still keeps his ruling, you have to stop arguing, otherwise you risk higher penalties.

After the game, you can politely ask him again about the case, after talking about it with another judge, if possible. In general, a good, responsable judge always apologizes to a player after a wrong ruling (I've seen a L3 doing it at a PTQ, he misunderstood the question). Keep in mind that there is always a coordinator you can talk to (L2 in smaller areas, L3 are regional coordinators).

See above; and if you play Welding Jar as a Mox Opal, say, the Mox will produce just U if you're in metalcraft because blue is the only color of Richard Garfield, Ph.D.'s color identity.

I don't think it's that weird at all... either way it turns out, the third set will still have at least some Mirran and some Phyrexian cards, whether it turns out to be Mirrodin Pure or New Phyrexia.

THAT downtime! =) I knew about that one, but didn't know the PTQ would show up so much in advance. Going on with the noob questions, the event is indeed already up atm, but if I sign up and then log off, will the place be maintained? =)

Thanks for the info guys... one last thing; when exactly is this preceding downtime you're talking about? (Considering Sunday 14 November as the day of the Event?)

In relation to this schedule, I wanted to participate in the online PTQ on November 14. My question is, since I've both never participated in one and I am rather new to MTGO, do you have to sign up previously, or does the event just pop up some time prior to the official starting time in the premier events section and you just join in the same way you do for any other event, 8-man drafts and so on? Also, do you have to be very quick? I see there's a player maximum, does it get reached rather fast? If so, could you tell me how much earlier does the event appear?
    Thank you =)

  • posted a message on The [Pack]: Go forth and Proliferate
Hi guys, just dropping in to say... I'll probably be dropping in less and less Smile
Things are going great, both Magic-related (I'm currently first in my City Championship ranking for the first time since I participated in one ^_^) and not, (I managed to be elected Student Representative, I started running the school newspaper and tons of other stuff) and all this keeps me from having the time and actually be relaxed enough and in the mood to log here and catch up with everything that happened in the last... 20 pages? Grin
This said, I'm probably no longer worthy of my position in the [Pack] hierarchy... put me wherever you wish, but still keep me as a member if possible =)
    Thanks for everything guys Wink

Moments like this make you truly understand how awesome studying many foreign languages can be: NDLL, I assume that that little "e" should be a clue that you, next to Jen, Kat and Rose, are part of an ever-increasing reality of Magic equally enjoyed by both genders, which makes me very happy, since this isn't as true in my local community.
