Am I the only one disappointed with Lost Caverns of Ixalan? Yeah the Jurassic World tie in is cool. Dino DNA is a infinite combo enabler. But it seems that with every new Standard set we end up getting too many new Commanders and non-Secret Lair reprints oversaturating the game as a whole. Why are we getting fewer toolbox cards to work with?
Oh but they're normally printed as one to two normal rares and a mythic in every Standard set. Why is most of Lost Caverns of Ixalan just draft / sealed fodder? Why lower the power level so low to give players fewer good options to work with? Is this intentional in order to reset the power level of Paper Standard in an attempt to save the format?
I hate to break it to you, but standard (and most other competitive formats like Modern) have taken a far backseat to Commander. I don't think we're going to see sets elegantly designed to make great competitive formats thrive anymore. Pretty much everything that happens from WotC is just them tweaking formulas to min/max our wallets. All that being said the set looks pretty fun to play limited with.
This continues the trend of modern Magic cards costing more and retaining less and less value. It's been on that path ever since Project Booster Fun started and this is just the latest chapter.
Modern Horizons III better have a Teferi's Response 2.0 type card which goes after rings and bowmasters and such...
In fact I would love for the set to be loaded with tons of new powerful hosers for every major strat, instead of new overpowered cards that we all need in order to keep this 'eternal' format rotating.
Wow, well I feel like this set and the commander precons have really turned out to be a Baulder's Gate situation, as in a set Wizards is charging a premium for that really should have been normal priced. Not a bad set or bad commander decks, but by no means worth the extra MSRP markup.
I was really hoping Talrand was going to be in this set. It's been very hard to find a copy and luckily this set's is really affordable because it's just all reprints, like old core sets.

Really low effort secret lair.
Spiteful Hexmage is meant to be used with bargain, you can sacrifice the hex he puts on itself or another creature to get your bargain on.
