This card is pretty terrible. Great art but the rest is just gross. Three mana for a 2/2 that you have to pay W and exert to get the tokens, effectively removing it from combat for two turns. Honestly, I don't know if I'd play this in casual edh...And I'm a cat person...
Turn 2 vs turn four is a significant difference. Even vs turn 3. Ontop of that, BBE has an element of randomness to it, SFM does not. The two color restriction in modern is like no restriction at all.
The way I see it, there are more or less two variations of combo that are viable in modern: Storm based and non storm based. The ones that are not storm based at least have to make an attempt at interaction and playing a fair game. Twin was an example of this as was pod and is Company decks. The mechanic of storm removes a lot of the necessary interaction in a deck. It does its thing and wins or loses based on what the opponent is able to do (if they can interact, they can counteract the combo a likely have a win if they cannot, they lose.) I'm not a combo fan but I have always viewed storm as a problematic mechanic if for no other reason than it has a tendency to break good blue spells. Storm is a legacy mechanic that needs cards like FoW and Daze to keep it in check. Modern doesn't have those kinds of cards and likely never will.
Comeback after it has a GP or two under its belt with some solid placements. I mean, CC has been on my watch list since it was printed. I am seriously anti-combo, so much so that it is in my sig. The deck did not need another easy combo, but it got one anyway. What your describing sounds an awful lot similar to what pod and twin would do. Pod was held in check with hate for a time. Twin never really was. Therein lies the difference between those two decks. Company has a similar feel but also has a bit of randomness sprinkled in which makes it a bit less consistent or at least it can be. As long as there aren't any deck stacking options viable, that may be enough. Metas shift. If its still around and putting up big numbers or results in 6 months I think it'll be worth another look. Until then, prepare to see it. Give up a handful of SB slots to hating on it. We've had enough bannings in modern for a while.
Do any of those combos consistently happen before turn 4? if not, its not a problem. What is the said decks meta share? If its under 10% its not a problem. How many gp or other major tournament top 8s does said deck have in the last year? If less than two, it's not a problem. How long does the deck take to win? If its like a normal deck and doesn't create a logistical problem, the deck is not a problem. When was the last time you lost to said deck? If it was recently, consider that you may be just salty at the lose before pushing for a ban.
Everyone here should ask these questions internally before voicing their advocacy for a ban. That said.Company decks are powerful and a ban could conceivably happen in the future. However, as Pokken so eloquently stated, board hate and wait and see. While a strong deck, it is very vulnerable to hate and has some bad mu's.
You're the one who answered. Think about it. And actually what I said wasn't even political, you made it so. I just stated facts. Infraction for ignorning mod text. We have a sub for politics, please dont derail the modern sub any further. ~Lantern
Hey man, I can beat your ass with facts all night on politics but right now I feel I cannot use this site as a reference for card buying. That bothers me. It feels like I'm talking to somebody selling something when I look at the tier list. WHo knows, maybe that's the way the mtg salvation wants to go but if it does, it'll be sad. We had been taking the best available information to compose the best decks possible. Now it looks like a dog and pony show where every one prances their sweet little deck around regardless of if it'll get curbstomped at the next FMN. Go back deep in the forest little elf, while you have it.
Exactly right. Add to that that the decks like Amulet Bloom and Lantern Control, while flying under the radar, broke out as lights out meta calls. Good decks get played more. Its a simple, easily measured metric, that just so happens to be very accurate. You shouldn't try and re-engineer the wheel. With the limited information available, I think we have just gone through one of the most accurate periods in judging mtg decks in the game's history. It would be a shame to lose that or belittle it in anyway.
