Regarding the new tiering structure: This sucks. We had a system in place that broke down the best decks viability in a said meta with statistical and real world information and they take it way for a veritable kitchen table love fest. WTF? Seriously.

Supply and demand for the first part of your question. It does WotC no good whatsoever having printed stock sitting on a shelf. Collectors don't mind that but a gaming company very much does. What WotC is trying to do is match supply and demand as closely as possible to maximize profits. That is where collectible value comes in. It's the unexpected overflow of demand swallowing the supply. Fetches won't be in standard because of logistical reasons as much as anything else. They create too stable of mana bases and take too much time from standard play.

IDK, traditionally that hasn't really been the case has it? Usually doesn't combo break the toys control would have or could have used more fairly? Both ponder and preordain are on the list explicitly because combo abused them to the breaking point. I feel that's why they are still on the list today. Not because they are too powerful, but because they are too abusable.

Good to see this. Meta looks healthy and is ripe for an unban. Does it need it? No. But this is the perfect environment to set loose a card or two and see what shakes out. If it goes bad, hey we know where the offender is. I sometimes wish there was a month or two month hold on new cards entering the format.Even a couple of weeks that would allow for some testing and for the meta to get nailed down upon the new cards coming in. I know that's asking too much, but I think it would help the format overall. Besides, most new cards take a while to filter into modern, unless they are slam dunks, of course.

The cat ban was gonna happen. Glad they got it out of the way before the next announcement. Although WOtC once again fails miserably at following their own criteria...

I'm curious: is it possible that the meta is and will continue to adapt to DSJ and DSG? It sounds like this is the case. It should be the case since, while capable of explosive games, there isn't anything inherently broken in either deck.

Had quite a long conversation about this on another thread. I, at least originally, was of the mind that it's bad. However, the cycle ability I now believe makes it at least viable, if not good. Having late game utility on a situational counter shouldn't be underestimated.

Still disagree with twin being a control deck. That is where WotC screwed up royally. Thinking that taking a hybridized Tempo/Combo deck out of the format with the stated intention of helping control. Its nonsense. The twin deck had to control the game for like the first three turns, that's it. From then on the combo threat controlled the game. In that sense, sure there was control, but it was control based on the fact that one card will win the game (I know its a two card combo but be real, how often have you watched a twin match and DE or the Fae guy isn't on the board?

Note: I initially posted this in the wrong location; also, I'm not calling for a ban of CC but rather speculating that its effect being possibly problematic down the road.

Not having this on the list, what do you guys think the critical mass of infinite combos will be before they ban Collected Company? I'd hate to see the card go (because its one of my best specs ever) but with the printing Vezier of Remedies and already having devoted druid, Melira, Kitchen Finks and a sac outlet (Viscera Seer) and also helix pinnacle (as janky as it is) one has to wonder. I mean I know a deck is gonna use it, some already do I believe, so will they wait until it reaches 12-14% of the meta or will they hit it sooner? You'll might think I'm crazy but I was among the first to see both pod and twin being hit. CC unfortunately fits the mold as well with all these undercosted weapons running around.

Or does the copious amounts of discard and cheap removal keep it in check for the time being?

    Curious to your thoughts?

How about a BUG Garruk planeswalker commander? Maybe have him in charge of a BUG beast deck?

Personally I think WotC is just running out of gimmicky names to hock their crap.

Actually not really. If 40 were printed in a single deck the price would dry up to nothing. It might be worth $1.50 when the deck is spoiled By the time you would by it it would likely be down to 50 cents and in a month it would be a nickle card. Don't they teach supply and demand at all any more?

I disagree. Why does species always supercede profession? We have never seen a Wizard human or a Warrior Zombie. There's a reason for that. Legendary or basic are super types of cards. We're talking creatures, which has already classified that aspect.

I kinda think they might do something with subtypes rather than supertypes. So instead of merfolk, we'll get wizards or rogues etc. That way it would be easier to incorporate multiple colors into a deck since tribes are historically so tied to a single color. Maybe we'll see the planeswalker as commander mechanic again.
