The argument using TV is flawed. The game is about the balance of power level, not an advance.
The cause is the lack of design space. In Chess, a Queen "obsolete" a Castle or a Bishop (not always true as it can cause awkward ties). What happens if the Queen is a Castle? There will be less variables in the game. The number of strategy decreases, and so the game becomes less interesting.
To add variable to the game, wizards have to produce new mechanics. But you cannot just create new mechanics without printing cards that have similar or higher power level without it. This is to balance the game.
For example, Baneslayer Angel "obsolete" Serra Angel. However, if Serra Angel is still the best white 5-drop, cards like Bituminuous Blast or Broodmate Dragon can never be printed. Baneslayer Angel created much more design space for the game.

You like goldfish. Let's do it this way:
crack a fetch, Searing Blaze, attack with Geopede and Field
12 damage wow

terminates (removals) are dead card against control anyways. using them on a wall doesnt hurt the aggro player much.
on the play you'll have time to kill the lynx
i'd want a G 2/2 rather than a W 2/3.
