This survey had collected the consumption and severity of problem gambling data from players (N=96), and find no significant evidences proved the links between problem gambling and loot boxes (for physical version, p = 0.957; for digital version, p = 0.355). And we also did not find any significant differences between the consumption of the two version loot boxes (p = 0.2634). It means in this survey, the spending on MTGA has no statistics differences with MTG. And of course, no links to problem gambling and purchasing booster packs.
I am currently conducting my MSc dissertation at the University of Warwick (UK). As part of my project, I am conducting a survey study about people's attitudes towards gambling and their willingness to purchase loot boxes or booster packs. I am focusing on Magic the Gathering as I wish to compare two versions of the game: the physical and the digital.
Participation is voluntary and I would be happy to share the results when the study is concluded. For ethics issue, all of you over 18 are welcomed to the survey! If you have time, please help us finish the study.
