Foretell reminds me of the most elegant card design ever, Ice Cauldron.

Elegant indeed. Good thing the open source MtG Forge app keeps track of all that so I don't need an actual notebook while playing.

So you can cast this with only 4 mana available. Nice.

Wonder if we will see narrow foretell-interactions like "whenever you foretell a card" or more broad ones that also react to foretell like "whenever you exile a card from your hand" or "whenever you play a card/cast a spell from exile".

    Blood Aspirant approves!

Can you sac the Saga with its third lore effect on the stack?

Also, did someone actually pay $10,000 for that card on March 14th..? 0.0

Kinda off-topic, but since we're now focussing on tribal: Is there a Commander Format that says every card in your deck that has a creature type *must* share a creature type with your Commander(s), but in exchange allows you to play cards (again, only those that share a creature type with your Commander(s)) outside of your Commander(s)'s color identity? I started thinking of this when they introduced the first Legendary Azra, but in UB, without R for some reason.
That way creatures like Magda in this set could fill the slot as Commander for *all* Dwarves, and Wizards doesn't need to print a Dwarf that has all Dwarf-aligned colors in their color identity.

I've toyed with this prospect as well and tried to find similar approaches that others have talked about online. I'm pretty sure I remember finding a proposed format that used a "creature type identity" much like EDH uses color identity.

I would be tempted to extend the requirement to cards without creature types (meaning a creature type must be in the text somewhere to include the card in a deck). It really narrows the pool of available cards, but you're dealing with a very niche format anyway, so it seems like you might as well go all in on the theme. At the very least, it would be ideal (in my mind) to exclude unrelated quasi-tribal cards from decks...e.g. Dragon Fodder should be fine for Dragons or Goblins but a no-go everywhere else.

Also, I like the name Chieftain!

Cool that you like the name, thanks!
    : D

Yeah, I was on the fence regarding cards that feature the type word somewhere. Like, should Skyshroud Poacher be allowed in a Yeva deck?

I do lean more towards yes than no, though only slightly right now.

To everyone else, sorry once again if this is derailing the thread too much, it just felt like a great opprtunity to get feedback on the idea and I thought maybe there already was a known format like the one I suggested out there somewhere and that I just didn't know about it...

Only one I can reasonably think of is Kaheera, the Orphanguard.

EDIT: You're asking about a specific format. Not that I know of, but that would be an interesting subformat to toy around with. Would you exclude or allow Changelings like Morophon in this case?
    'buster

Maybe we should continue this in private or in another forum, but yeah, creatures with Changeling would be allowed in all decks. Morophon was a huge letdown in my view, mostly for being colorless. I had hoped for a 2/W 2/U 2/B 2/R 2/G Legendary Shapeshifter with Changeling...

Kaheera would still not allow creatures outside her color identity in regular CMD. In my variant, which I'd probably call Chieftain, she'd probably allow to cheat in all creature cards regardless of their original types, much like cards like Relentless Rats allows you to cheat around the singleton rule in regular CMD.

Anyway, this set is giving a lot of love to regular CMD already, so I'm happy.

More of a lore thing. But I wonder if that is a portal behind the angel and if so is that how phyrexians are showing up?

Nah, it's just Angela Merkel's hands. Or the Abzan watermark.
    ; p

Seriously, though, I really like this card and hope the addition of professions to intelligent species (like Angels or Demons) will stick around for a while.

I keep reading this as Bloodskee, like a blood filled Brewskie hahaha.

Same here! My first thought was "Okay, so Slavic bleed into Skandinavian indpired set? Huh, not too much of a stretch, actua... Oh! BloodSKY, okay..."

    X D

Anyway, I really like the card and have zero issue with non-flying lesser Demons, as those do have precedent in MtG.

A 3 mana 2/3 that fetches a card on its first attack is nice, too. Especially since the lore 2 and 3 boni aren't tied to that specific token. Imagine playing this later on when you have a bunch of Demons/Berserkers out.
    : )

Also, Berserker is pretty much the norse iteration of a champion or herald, not originally hurr-durr-battle-guy, so I like seeing a lot of Berserkers in this of all sets.

Phyrexians are just written to be too OP. Unless I'm greatly misunderstanding them, literally all they need to do is put one drop of oil on a plane, and it will eventually turn into another Phyrexia. And their only weakness is supposed to be that they can't planeswalk, but now that's out the window too. They basically can neither be reasoned with nor destroyed.

(Incidentally, one thing I've never been sure about...is the first syllable pronounced with a schwa, or does it rhyme with "high"?)

Pretty much like the Accelerant in the Aliens-verse (?). To anyone who likes the visuals and corresponding atmosphere/storytelling following the effects of some black oil that transforms anything it comes into contact with, be it man or machine, body or mind, organic or synthetic, I highly recommend 2015's Prometheus: The Complete Fire and Stone comic. I attached a few samples, not sure if spoiler tags are necessary (this comic being half a decade old), or if a graphic content tag is required (this being a Magic: The Gathering forum).

An Asgard version of Phyrexia sure would be pretty metal. Can you say Blightsteel Hammer?

    MjoellnEaR, Blightsteel Hammer
    Legendary Artifact - Equipment
Equipped creature has death metal touch (What's that, you ask? Beats me.)
Whosoever holds this hammer, if they be compleat, shall have the power of ThoAAAAA...!!! (*HighPitchScream*)

In the first picture, it looks more like a merfolk, think Benthic Biomancer than a squirrel. Where's the fluffy tail?

Covered in a very long scroll, apparently.

That tail looks a frost giant stepped on it, though.

Didn't expect the name "ODIN" to pop up in this thread as much as it did (search for it, you'll see Wink ), but now I wonder if introducing Magic's version of the All-Father as actually being a planeswalker who originally comes from arguably the most metal of worlds in the game's lore would be more on the clever side or more on the cringe side.
    '^^

Anyway, since these seem to be real after all, I'm anxious to see which cards get errata'd to have the Phyrexian subtype and which don't, as well as what other non-permanents with the Snow supertype we'll get.

Don't shoot the messenger. It's pointless anyways, the annoying little thing won't go away.
Ratatoskr is our Christmas (Eve) preview this year. No overt Squirrel tribal, but pretty useful otherwise.

    Source: @wizards_mtg

    Cool, thanks for sharing!

Glad they *did* use the opportunity to introduce a black-bordered Squirrel legend. Sadly, yet unsurprisingly, they went the Smyte route and depicted their Ratatoskr-inspired character without a horn after all...

Still, have fun, all you Squirrel enthusiasts out there!

The elesh norn is fake. Not just because the holostamp. Doing a simple google search for elesh norn fanart gives you a piece done by Zyralynn (Malena Santos) on artstation 7 months ago.

Is the elesh norn from the same guy?

Don't quite get why we're talking about the Norn fake now. I assumed it was only added to the discussion for comparison? We're not actually debating that that one might be real, are we?

Also, @Lord of Tresserhorn: Thanks for the video recommendation! I really don't see why you'd think you need help based on that.

As for legitimacy, no telltale fake signs, so so far so good.

Introducing Phyrexian as a creature type, as well as the first time a non-permanent having the Snow supertype, sure raises at least some red flags, that can't be just me.

Maybe that artwork is just what a Baloth looks like on Kaldheim?
    X D

And I'm still also suspicious regarding the non italic font for the mechanic name, which others already pointed out.
