A New and Exciting Beginning

The End of an Era
  • posted a message on Bant replication

    Hello everyone,
I came up with this deck idea, so I made an account here to share it with the world. If I'm breaking any rules, please let me know as this is my first submission ever!

    The idea
The attempt of this deck is to maintain the good matchup that the Oko decks have against aggresive decks, while not having to concede instantly against Golos decks. In order to do so, this list contains a combo finish, that you can hopefully execute before you get run over by an army of zombies.

    The combo
To execute the combo, you need to have as many artifacts on the board as possible. This is mainly done by generating food through Oko and gilded goose. You also have some incitental artifacts in glass casket and golden egg. Then, you need to have vantress gargoyle on the battlefield, and masterful replication in hand. You make all your artifacts into gigantic flying(!) beaters, and OTK them.

    Pros
    • Despite being a combo deck (or rather, a midrange deck with a combo finish), almost every card is good on its own. It's old news that the 3 mana planeswalkers are busted, and this deck does an exceptionally good job in making them excel with gilded goose, vantress gargoyle and glass casket
    • Great matchup against aggro decks by playing cards like vantress gargoyle, oko, wicked wolf and time wipe
    • (Hopefully) improved matchup against Golos decks, which is terrible with the standard Bant Oko list
    • You get to beat opponents with a card that nobody thinks is standard playable

    Cons
    • I think deck will struggle a lot with nissa, who shakes the world, which is run 4x in most green midrange decks
    • A lot of things need to align for this combo to work: having enough artifacts, having the two combo pieces, and your opponent having 7 or more cards in their graveyard. Only testing will tell if this is doable
    • The amount of turn 1 green sources for gilded goose is a bit iffy
    • The combo gets interrupted by instant speed removal. But who even plays instants in the age of Teferi, time raveler

    In conclusion
I have not yet played with this deck, because I cannot afford it right now. It would be awesome if anybody is willing to give it a swing, and tell me if this deck has some potential or if it's straight garbage. I don't have a sideboard yet as I was aiming to play with this in bo1, but I think you can take a lot of cards from the regular Bant Oko standard decks.
