Long time no see! With the new year it's time to get back to some Modern games.
Heres come the updated version of my previous list:
Creatures:
4 Dreadhorde Arcanist (+++ performing very well so far and very flexible. Casting back a Path / Opt / Bolt depending on the situation feels great. Moreover, I am not afraid to clean the board in the early turns as I will be able to cast spells back.)
4 Young Pyromancer (++ performing well. Put pressure if unchecked.)
3 Spell Queller (+++ performing well + soft lock with Teferi)
2 Teferi, Time Raveler (+++)
2 Goblin Dark-Dwellers(++ performing well.)
2 Geist of Saint Traft (need more testing)
4 Bonecrusher Giant (in test)
Log file:
- I went down to 24 lands. 25 was a bit too much.
- I replaced the 2 Restoration Angels + 1 Path + 1 land with 4 Bonecrusher Giant. The idea is to test this new card as it seems great. Giving more reach. Moreover, I see a various Stoneforge Mystic / creatures decks and 4 Bonecrusher Giant and 4 Lightning Bolt might help us to keep a clear board.
- I lack maindeck counterspells against combo decks but we have to make a choice about which bad matchup to choose in the end .
- The sideboard is not optimized, will be the next step to work upon.
I tested a bit the deck yesterday and it felt great! Indeed, even if it's a semi budget one, I didn't feel overwhelmed during the matches
I also realised that I forgot to put the 2 Celestial Colonnade but I didn't missed them. I played 25 lands, felt good. Note: painlands are not that bad after all.
Here comes some feedbacks about some cards: - Dreadhorde Arcanist: +++ This card is awesome. It helped me a lot and is very versatile (casting back a Bolt or an Opt depending on the situation). Moreover, it synergize very well with Young Pyromancer.
- Young Pyromancer : +++ It quickly generates a board and feels great about slow decks. I believe that it helps my combo/control matchups in the sense that I could close the game quickly.
- Goblin Dark-Dwellers: +++ A 4/4 with menace that can flashback an helix/path/opt and put a clock. I even managed to flash back 2 Bolts thanks to Restoration Angel on the Goblin
- Electrolyze : - The card draw is nice but didn't feel very impactful.
After some reflexion I decided to cut 1 Spell Queller and 1 Electrolyze in order to put 2 Geist of Saint Traft. The reasoning behind:
With my card choices, Combo decks are bad matchups and Control may be 50/50 thansk to T3feri. Thus, I thought that instead of trying to be reactive (my card choices are not really good at that. Except Queller), I should be the beatdown in those matchups and try to end the game quickly. Hence the 2 Geist of Saint Traft.
First of all, I would like to thank everyone for the help and the warm welcoming! Good vibes here
After all your feedbacks, here comes the list that I'm going to try this weekend.
Due to the prices spikes regarding Inspiring Vantage & Spirebluff Canal, I replaced them for 4 Battlefield Forge and 1 Shivan Reef. I understand that the painlands are not the ideal (especially against Burn) but I hope that it can do the work and I will upgrade the manabase next month.
Let see how this "semi-budget" list will perform.
Ps: I just saw the huge spike regarding spell queller, luckily I bought them earlier this year.
Right now, the only part i'm "afraid of" is the mana base as I never played 3 colors. As you have more experience than I do, does it looks out of place from your point of view or it's seem reasonable?
Here comes more info about me in order to help with the recommendations.
What kind of player?
- I'm currently playing FNM & events on weekends. Moreover, I'm trying to do Modern Serie event each month and want to do various GP next year. So I would say that I'm more leaning towards competitive.
1. What cards do you love and want to play?
I already own various UW cards such as Geist, Spell Queller T3feri, Restoration Angel, Colonnades, etc But, when I started to check the red cards avalaible, I really liked the following ones:
- Dreadhorde Arcanist,
- Goblin Dark-Dwellers,
- Lightning Helix,
- Lightning Bolt,
I really like the fact that these cards (Bolt & Helix) could help to stabilize the board/put pressure in the early turn and then close it in the mid-game/late-game by recasting them for "free" with Dreadhorde Arcanist & Goblin Dark-Dwellers. Do you feel that it could be competitive ?
If I had to choose one card from UW:
- Geist of Saint Traft (I really like it too^^)
2. What style of deck do you prefer?
I think that I prefer Midrange decks (that can lean a bit towards control if needed or vice-versa.
I'm not a big fan of counterspells as I prefer to be a bit more proactive than reactive I think (If I had to think about an example: like casting creatures that put a clock while cleaning the board/pressuring with red spells I think).
3. What is your budget?
As I'm playing more and more competitive events, I'm willing to update the deck step by step. Something around 100 dollars each months. I already own various UW cards but I really like the red ones mentionned before. Of course, as you have more experience than I do, if you tell me that Geist/Queller/T3feri/Resto are way better&competitive than the previous red ones, I will follow your advices (Even if I really liked to discover Dreadhorde Arcanist ^^) .
I guess that the first area to invest would be to buy flooded strand but I'm very lost when it comes to 3 colors in modern
Indeed, I already own various UW cards (T3feri, Queller, Celestial colonnades, etc) but I'm completly lost when it comes to the mana base Moreover, seems like red fetches are quite expensive nowadays ^^
Thus, I came up with the following mana base idea:
3 Celestial Colonnade (already in my collection),
4 Flooded Strand (will need to buy),
2 Hallowed Fountain (already in my collection),
4 Sulfur Falls (will need to buy),
2 Sacred Foundry (will need to buy),
4 Mountain,
2 Plains,
2 Island,
2 Glacial Fortress (already in my collection),
Do you think that it's viable/competitive or it's a crazy manabase ?
For info, please find attached my decklist.
Ps: Dreadhorde Arcanist seems like a great Snapcaster budget alternative.
Ps2: If you feel that my list is not competitive feel free to let me know
Thanks in advance for your help and talk to you soon guys

I also came up with a budget sideboard (the Electrolyze is just to occupy the 15th slot):
4 Spreading Seas
2 Cleansing Nova
2 Celestial Purge
2 Disdainful Stroke
2 Disenchant
2
Runed Halo: after some thoughts let's cut 1 so I can put 1 Remorseful Cleric,1
Electrolyze: after some thoughts let's cut it so I can put 1 Remorseful Cleric,Added: 2 Remorseful Cleric
I am going to attend a competitive event next weekend (around 100 people), will keep you posted.
Thanks again to everyone for the previous feedbacks and the good vibes

I will keep working on the list.

I did some homeworks regarding the mana base.
What do you think of the following "semi budget" mana base ?
2 Glacial Fortress
2 Celestial Colonnade
2 Hallowed Fountain
4 Windswept Heath
2 Plains
3 Mountain
2 Island
4 Inspiring Vantage
2 Sacred Foundry
1 Spirebluff Canal
Ps: newbie to tri-color here
Thanks a lot for your feedback
What do you think of the following list? Do you think that it's a good start into a competitive Jeskai ?
I'm note sure about Young Pyromancer but I don't know yet about the good 2 drops in red.
4 Lightning Bolt
4 Opt
4 Path to Exile
4 Lightning Helix
2 Grim Lavamancer
4 Dreadhorde Arcanist
4 Young Pyromancer
4 Spell Queller
2 Teferi, Time Raveler
2 Restoration Angel
2 Goblin Dark-Dwellers
2 Glacial Fortress
2 Celestial Colonnade
2 Hallowed Fountain
For info I only included the lands I already own so it will be easier to construct a manabase with the community
NB: Windswept Heath are pretty cheap nowadays, maybe I could buy a playset to help with the manabase.
Talk to you soon
Thanks for the warm welcoming !

Bonus Insight:
As a newbie to this archetype, if I had to think about the core of a deck that seems competitive to my current knowledge, I would say something like this (but it may be junk newbie ^^):
4 Opt
4 Path to Exile
4 Lightning Bolt
4 Lightning Helix
4 Dreadhorde Arcanist
4
Geist of Saint Traft: After reflexion 4 Spell Queller (with the combination of 2 T3feri)2 Teferi, Time Raveler (works great with Spel Queller)
2 Restoration Angel (Added)
2 Goblin Dark-Dwellers
Hope all these answers helped.
Thanks for the help CurdBros !
New Jeskai player here, I'm glad to join the community
What drove me to the deck is cool UW cards such as Geist, Spell Queller and Teferi but with the addition of red to quickly put pressure.
I am totally new to the deck and I'm currently building a "semi-budget" Tempo/Midrange version based on this primer: https://www.coolstuffinc.com/a/jeffhoogland-08022019-jeskai-tempo-primer (I hope that it is still competitive )
