This thread's been dead for too long. Where's all the stuff?
Had a good mail day Friday with 6 upgrades for Peasant Cube arriving. Also managed to score a signed Worn Powerstone Artist Proof, so once that arrives it'll be a big acquisition down.
Nice Sandra signatures! I am still in search of a NM signed chain lightning myself.
For the past decade or so I have been attempting to fully pimp out my powered cube, which is quite an expensive and lengthy process. Even for high priced vintage cards that I was lucky to have acquired earlier (when they were less ridiculously priced), it is now even more a challenge to find a "pimped" out version that is somewhat affordable. My cube has become a nice mix of signed, altered, miscut/misprint and foil cards with less than 100 remaining to pimp out. Will definitely share some pictures of the final results, but here's a sol ring I am very excited to have that I picked up a few years back!
Has anybody else been unimpressed with Krenko lately? The card is solid, but the slower clock hasn't offset this in the way it has felt. And unlike any of the other rabbles, the fact that he has to attack before he can do anything on blocks has made him worse for the midrange/controlling decks which doesn't make up for the lower speed for the aggro decks. The only thing that has me waiting before I cut him is the ceiling with curves like Gideon/Elspeth/Wargear. Probably cutting him once I get my hand on a Seasoned Pyromancer.
Yes, this card is not very impressive and easy removal target. Got cut after a few months and replaced with better options.
I feel like this guy should be a 3/3 more often than not by the time he is ready to attack, and if so that's a pretty solid threat for 3 mana. How have the results been with him? Not sure who I would cut if I tried to squeeze him in.
But it only cost me half the mana to invest in, had an opportunity to impact the board immediately and was useable up to 3 turns faster. Which also means it might have activated before the opponent even drew an answer to it.
I will agree to disagree on the evaluation of these. Thank you for the discussion and points to consider.
It dawned on me recently how much better Purphoros has gotten since he was printed. Red's 3cmc slot is full of token makers now, which helps Purphoros deal damage the turn he comes into play. Not only the 3cmc slot, but Kari Zev, Skyship Raider is another recent printing at 2cmc that works great with Purphoros.
You're definitely right, seems like wizards really wanted this guy to stay in cubes. I haven't added him yet, hate that he was mostly useless till playing siege-gang or something similar, but nowadays with all the red token generation I feel almost forced to give him a try.
Threats are much more aggressive these days, plus there's a lot more ways to blow up Disk / lockdown Disk. I cut it years ago and really haven't missed it, 4-cmc do nothing the turn it you cast is too much of a liability in 2020.
Definitely there are many ways to destroy artifacts, but those same cards would also destroy keg variants unless you are popping keg immediately for 0.

This card is staying in. Incredible power and routinely cast for 4 or 5.
