This is still excellent because it's card advantage. It also provides black some needed lifelink, supports zombie tribal, and possibly knights if you're into that sorta thing. You can even bounce it back to your hand to have another removal spell.
How does it work? You can cast the creature removal part, then later can cast the creature part?
It's still a solid card, but it's not a staple. A lot has changed since 2013.
Well, let's not get too political on here!
Magic related though, Selesnya has not exactly seen a bunch of cube staples printed that would replace Voice of Resurgance! For me, the top 6 in no particular order would be:
Qasali Pridemage
Voice of Resurgence
Kitchen Finks
Knight of Autumn
Knight of the Reliquary
Nature's Chant (tossed into White section for me)
I love this guy. Such a unique ability that can be used for synergy with your deck or to hurt your opponent, while growing the nemesis into a dominant board threat. He's up next on the cutting block, but he has been for a long time and every time I consider cutting him I find a way to keep him in the cube.
Cataclysm is still a crucial part of my cube. Very surprised to see it in so few cubes based on cubetutor! Makes for some really fun games and situations, racing to rebuild or many times securing the victory.
Very strange to me that a card that basically plays as a 2/1 unblockable (certainly better evasion than simply flying) is viewed as outclassed. Especially when you consider all the free equipment pounding this thing unleashes on a helpless opponent.
Reading this entire thread and getting a glimpse at the recent history has revealed an interesting tidbit:
4-5 years ago Vengevine was revered as an elite, top-echelon 4-drop in green. Nowadays it is hardly mentioned or played. It’s not like there has been printed a bunch of great 4’s to push it out in that time span, so my question is: what else happened in cube development that made people cool on this critter?
It is still a huge part of the cubes I play and is still a force. Just beat me recently with it's sweet ability.

Did you cut it again? If so why? It's been in my cube for years now and had no plans on removing it.
