Hey there, I saw this post and I wanted to help you make a decision. It seems like we are trying to be the control deck? I'd look into generals that provide similar payoffs for strategy.
I'd suggest not picking a general with enchantments at all, but one that offers utility to facility this strategy. Pick a game plan, pick a game B/C, and try to stick to this route. If you don't want to be in black, it seems that UWG or UWR are the other options.
Ask yourself, do I need to go the enchantress route or enchantment value engine?
Deck update from the newest set. I will test the new clone, Glasspool Mimic since it acts like a land in a slow match, and recurrable. These new modular-spell lands are nice for Commander :).
Hello everyone, this is my return to Commander and I wanted to share some of my ideas for my local meta. Feel free to ask questions in regards to deck choices.
[Disclaimer]
- I don't build decks around my general often, so this is my attempt of trying to utilize my general more frequently.
Tell me your opinions of my list tailored for my meta :).
Thanks for posting the primer on Grixis Control. I feel like it's misleading on what Grixis offers. The deck has an insane curve, and very few ways to deal with hate. In my local meta, I'm the UBR Reanimator/Control player, but this deck seems to lack a sufficient way to get to Plan A. I see you are playing Entomb/Reanimate/Animate Dead package (That's good to see more people realize how powerful that can be).
How much does your meta play graveyard hate? In my experience, I get hated out really fast or dominated the game. Everyone has access to colourless GY hate such as Tormod's Crypt, Soul-Guided Lantern, Relic, Grafdigger's Cage. Everyone plays black/green so that adds Nihil Spellbomb/Leyline of the Void/Ravenous Trap/Scavenging Ooze, and Ground Seal.
How are you planning to combat your meta once they evolve their gameplan?
This is the current list of counters I'm running in my Kess Reanimator/Control deck, and I feel I can squeeze in a few more modular counters. Would adding in Archmage's Charm and Drown in the Loch be fitting for the Control/Reanimator/Stax meta?
Hey there,
I'm actually built the same general with a different take on RG Field of the Dead. It looks like your deck doesn't capitalize on the RG lands package very well.
What do you mean b y 75%? Casual/Competitive is a blanket statement, I'd say your deck isn't casual since you run Mana Crypt and Mana Vault.
I'd consider replacing some of the top end with cards that get you to the late game. RG Aggro is a nice strategy if you don't get stifled by various Uxx control or combo decks.
Thanks for the help everyone. I settled on rotation certain cards for certain metas. I realized that our 3 man pods work different then casual 4 man pods. In 4 man pods, I can play Inkwell, but in my 3 man pods - it's Keranos. Keranos will never be turned on, and it can't be swords as an enchantment. Just meta dependent xD.
I forgot to mention my general. The general is Thraximundar, but it doesn't matter. We try to build decks for our meta where we don't need our generals to win. Thrax is just a haste outlet to answer Eldrazi. I've been out of the loop, so all these new cards. I will write these down, and see if I traded for any since buying cards online has been slowed due to Covid-19.
I wouldn't call a TNN a bomb, but that works. I play the UB Reanimator style where I carefully discard my threats. I listed my main threats above, and the rest of creatures are utility. It's okay if you assumed it, I didn't write a description of the playstyle/deck archetype, It's not stereotypical UBx Reanimator.
@Narvuntien - I already listed big Voidy as my main win cons :).
I decided to rebuilt my Grixis EDH deck from 10 years ago, and I forgot the my anti-blue Reanimator. With the banning of Griselbrand/Sundering Titan - I'm out of go targets to push out blue players off the table. My options to lockout blue players were Inkwell Leviathan or Keranos, but the release of so many clones - I'm not sure that is a good idea.

I hope that helped!
I wanted to try a more casual brew for Enchantress/Curses control.
The main engine will be Curse of Misfortunes, possibly Starfield of Nyx. Any help would be appreciate
My initial thought would be a classic BGW Control deck with heavy focus on Enchantment since most decks don't pack removal.
