I personally like Thief of Sanity, but I am the only one of the Faeries discord who is vocal about testing Thief out. I was considering Selective Snare as a potential card for the humans matchup as well as a way to rebuy our CITP effects, but outside of those factors I dont think it will really stick as a card to play in the 75. Nothing else really catches my attention however

There is potential for Selective Snare to help blue tempo decks like Death's Shadow and Faeries fight tribal go-wide strategies like Humans Faeries Elves and Merfolk. I just dont know that its enough potential to fit space in my sb for. Personally I kind of like the idea of bouncing my effect faeries post-combat (but I would really rather have riptide laboratory for that effect). The anti-tribal tempo that this card creates was mentioned in the State of Modern thread aswell, so it seems like wizards is paying attention (though there isnt much proof this is a new design direction similar to hate for Tron).

They stepped up their dimir game. I approve of these cards wholeheartedly, but yeah Surveil cantrip at 2 mana was an obvious safety decision, which is likely why its on a split card with another overcosted recoil (Id comfortably pay 4 mana for that effect, not 5) Im not disappointed though. Also Thief of Sanity has me many levels of excited. Its Gonti but every time you do damage with it, and it flies...for 1 mana less.

Is it outright wrong to play sets of both opt and serum visions? I have been liking the capacity for deck manipulation with 4 and 4 and 2 search for azcanta personally

Yknow, faeries is very close to being able to play the game twin did, we just dont have the I-win button to strategize with. I wholeheartedly do want the combo deck back, because it makes the Faeries brand of interaction much better, but thats not the reason for this post.

I think Id enjoy having cheaper blue threats (and Im not talking like heavy power toughness sloggers, because blue doesnt do that) that have the ability to shift gears and ignore what the opponent is doing by design, because thats often what the issue is. And control over time exists in blue's range of effects, evident with "extra turn" effects, so a couple of cards that focuses on time efficiency (that are less 'build around me specifically') would be nice in the absence of the counterspell quality we are looking for as blue mages.

Maybe until then the answer is more nimble obstructionists out of the sb, strategically, but Id like to see what else could come about in that vein of card design.

This is why vendillion clique does a lot of work. It is the best card of this type by miles legal in modern.

THis is likely why people wanted stoneforge (I think batterskull makes this a problem, not future design) so much for a bit. It is a card that fits in a pair that helps turn the corner. You just tutor up a sword and have this ability to race in an aggro-control based tempo gameplan.

    Mission Briefing vs Snapcaster Mage:
    - Briefing is not a creature, can't be Commanded (Kolaghan's/Cryptic) back to hand
    - Briefing costs UU, Snapcaster costs 1U
    - Briefing is an instant, triggers Pyromancer Ascension, Thing in the Ice, etc
    - Briefing surveils 2 and bins itself
    - Briefing doesn't target

Overall Snapcaster is probably better due to its less color-intensive mana cost, and that it's a 2-for-1 whereas Briefing is a 1-for-1 with selection.

Does Briefing allow cards to be casted for alternate costs? edit: yes it does. Holy *****, instant mill staple Laughing

You are an absolute treasure with your card analysis. Also, I plan on playing 2 and 2 for the simple fact that I was waiting for a good deck manipulation card d^_^b

What about a singleton Torrential Gearhulk? I've been testing one out now that I've replaced AV with HI, and so far I think it's been great. When Assassin's Trophy starts seeing play, Gearhulk might be even better because it will be easier to cast due to all the free ramp we'll be getting.

Fatcaster Mage as been great in 2016, it could see some more play now I think. The effect is great, provides a good body too.

@ Planeswalker : I'm on 2/1 Jace, the Mind Sculptor / Gideon Jura, but I've been thinking about unplayed planeswalker maybe in the recent days : Jace Beleren and Jace, Memory Adept. I know these look subpar when compared to the Mind Sculptor and even Teferi, but is anyone playing or toying with one of them ?

    Cheers !

Thats DadCaster Mage good sir; He says "Get back THIS instant!"
but in all seriousness, i think one or two in the sideboard is where Id go if I needed power to close the game

No they meant poisonous 10 because the creature gives 10 poison counters when it connects. Its a joke thematic to the walker that would be nice to see

As foretold Living End is going to love that tutor I think. Gives a bit more consistency

You think so? Team Faeries is super skeptical of the new Faerie. I might pick up a foil set to test, though I dont expect great results. Repeatable draw-fixing effect on a flier is solid, and attacks into lingering souls profitably though.

-Incoming Dimir Tempo Mage Comment, Ignore at your pleasure-

Perspective? Yeah, UW is good, I own the deck. Not looking for Miracles to get better, there are other blue decks you know. This "blue mages" crusade you are on doesnt need to be rehashed. You dont want to read the concerns? You can ignore the comments. But Dimir has been overcosted or absolute trash the previous two times we have been to ravnica, so no you cant hush me up or keep me from expecting better cards.

Golgari gets to kill anything for 2 CMC at Instant Speed....Izzet gets handed a weak 3 CMC Counterspell even by 3 CMC Counterspell standards.

And what did dimir get? overcosted variant of a card that already existed. Izzet gets a hard counter that isnt double blue. I think thats actually pretty playable.

So for people talking about Counter spell in modern:

Can you imagine having to play against a sultai control deck in modern with Assasssin's Trophy, Counter Spell, Push, Cryptic where you literally won't be able to resolve anything?

No I cannot, because I would also have counters.

`He would play spell snare and not care. I would love to be in those days though, so +1 to counterspell and sultai being good
