im jealous because I wanted to build this with Bitterblossom in the new format, but was given advice against it and resorted to building Demigod Red (didnt get the demigods yet lol, so I might give this another shot.)
I would say Sideboard 4 Ashenmoor Gouger and play 4 Hell's Thunder over the 2 of those and the 2 makeshift mannequin you have maindecked...or the dusk urchins (Tested them, personally didnt like them in the build)
I had something similar to this really, and ashling is a real nice addition I didnt think of. It might be nice. But I think you want Incinerate over double cleave
This deck was actually discussed in a gleemax forum thread titled "Grixis Machine Head". And it looks like the Goblin Assaults and the Grave Pact are interesting tech, though the pact could be moved to the sideboard with 2 more. Not much else I can really say except I was looking into building something like this, so I can honestly say I like it.
Enter text here.I cant really say the Goblin Assaults and the mainboard jund charm are really all that necessary because the tokens will more often than not run themselves into a wall unless you build around being on the constant aggressive. Also, I think you want more removal spells like Terror.
This is a deck I posted in the Jund Rock thread, but I think my version holds relevance to what your deck is trying to do. Call it what you will "Panzer Dragoon" "Double Dragon" "Drakenguard" "Spyro" and the like, I think the deck name will be matched once I test and tweak the build a bit more
I dont like bloom tender in these decks at all personally, I think Birds is enough to fix your mana. And if the player is just looking to ramp then he/she should ramp efficiently with Devoted Druid instead of relying on other cards they may not have in play. 1+X card Mana Engines are too fragile and inconsistent to give the accel needed without amazing draws.
find space for Devoted Druid in the deck because it is a possible 2 extra mana in one turn and/or a chump blocker. I dont think spitebellows is really necessary except in maybe the chameleon colossus that hits the field. Sarkhan Vol in this deck does seem kind of nice, but I must also suggest Sprouting Thrinax for a form of offensive/defensive card advantage
Windbrisk Heights Deepchannel Mentor/Cryptic Command was a merfolk-strike thought.
@ MTGN00B= Wake thrasher was an idea I had considered heavily, but I switched it out for Ponder in the original build due to the larger target and the discussions I read concerning him when eventide first came out (verdict on his playability wasnt finalized). I'll re-evaluate the list to fit him in over Deepchannel Mentor
@ Weatherguy= I had forgotten about Wanderwine Hub when I wrote the list out honestly. But Windbrisk Heights is a thought that I figured was worth looking at, since it is in the basic merfolk colors.
You could put 4 Incandescent Soulstoke in this deck somewhere so you can get an alternate engine to use with Evoke in addition to your recursion. And I think Sedris can go to 2 for the 4th Bitterblossom honestly.
I have a friend that told me that he can obtain cards online, but wants to build a merfolk deck for when he plays friends at college. My type 2 mindset makes me want to test a theory that I have been harvesting since realizing that Lord of Atlantis is no longer in standard.
I know the whole "let the good deck fade out in its glory" argument, but I just want to see if this works...or if its just the failed experiment of another MTG Frankenstein.
Its not much different in Strategic Theory than the merfolk decks Ive been looking at, but the Alpha Strike clause is somewhat lesser in its consistency. And Merrow Reejery's tap ability seems like it should be active more, since it helps push attackers through certain situations
To be truthful Firesoul (the first deck) has been able to play conservatively enough to recover from field control bombs and still deal damage. Bloodburn (the second deck) is just experiencing a lack of optimal damage and is a step from becomming a complete aggro deck somewhat like the first.
I recently made a trade for cards that I needed for a deck that I had been meaning to build, but then looked and saw that a previous deck I had given up on could be good with those cards...so I come to you all for advice. I intend to use one of these decks in the first Standard Constructed FNM of the new format, but I dont know which one.
Here are the Decklists, Im sure youve seen the original variants around the critique forums before.
Cut 2 double cleave and 2 lands for 4 smaller creatures. My FireSoul list runs 28 creatures total 10 Spells and 22 lands, because you want to have the potential to stabilize after firespout, but 28/10/22 might not be for you. If you play the deck somewhat conservatively and know how to deal your damage you should come out all right.
This is actually the list I was writing out at work last night, save a few tricks like Resounding Thunder and the 4th Broodmate Dragon...I must say I like the consistency of your list but 10 lands that CIPT has to be a little bit slower than what you are looking for
I would say Sideboard 4 Ashenmoor Gouger and play 4 Hell's Thunder over the 2 of those and the 2 makeshift mannequin you have maindecked...or the dusk urchins (Tested them, personally didnt like them in the build)
