as for the amount allowed to give out they only gave away what they were allowed to on the pre-release day. the winner decided to wait a week to pick up his box which allowed more shards to be given to the other players.

like i said, there is always a reason why:)

I'm glad you had a good time and have a good store! i wish i had one around here close to me! Those prizes rock!

That is a lot more believable since he breaks even as far as profits, but sells his product at an accelerated pace. 4-0 getting a box is freakin insane. I don't believe it, but if you are telling the truth, your store is the holy grail of magic stores, lol.

not necessarily.. what if only 4-0 and 3-0-1 even GOT prize? Also he could be talking about the launch party, where anything goes. I've heard insane prize pay outs before and if you drastically limit the number of players that recieve prize (ie top top 1-4 finishers) and don't try to make any money off the event then people can get alot of packs. But thats the age old question, do you give more product to everyone and have a smaller top prize or concentrate all the prize to the top few players.

and i mean if it was the pre-release and somehow this guy's store got more packs than he should have and gave out more packs than he was supposed to, then wizards will just not give them another pre-release. I mean its great to have a store that gives out alot of prize, but when they do it against WOTC policy, WOTC gets pissed and says no more.. I know of 3-4 store/to's that got banned for breaking the street date with their foils or selling boxes on ebay before the release day, so who knows.

Also realize this is the internet and people say alot of things that can't really be proven..

In the past, WotC has not dictated any prize structure. For Alara, for store-run events (not TO events, which still could buy as much product as they wanted to give as prizes), there was 1 box of Alara to be given as prizes and volunteer compensation. The exact nature of the prize distribution (as well as how much was prizes or compensation) was not mandated. A store could have added Eventide packs or store credit as prizes; they just werent allowed more Alara.

Once again, during this pre-release everyone (premier TO's and stores) were limited in the amount of shards packs they could pay out as prizes to 1.5 packs per enrollment, It was further limited based on direct instuctions that came with the pre-release kit saying exacally how many shards packs could be given out for what sized tourament. Yes everyone could add as many playmats, lunches, eventide packs.. ect to their prize giveaway. But Shards packs as prizes were limited by WOTC even for the premier TO's.

Wizards put up a nice survey form to get feedback about the Shards of Alara prerelease and launch parties. I just want everyone that cares about prereleases and launch parties to speak their mind! Lets see if simply telling wizards what we want has any effect.

No clue when this survey shuts down so speak quickly!

Are you referring to what Otwell said, about the free entry fees? The information he posted doesn't come from some online message - it's directly from the person that's running States in Colorado.

yeah the NC PTO confirmed to me, that you will get a special DCI card for winning states that will entitle you to free entry in every NC (or insert your state here) Premier event.. and all *constructed* premier events in the country. IF they bring back limited states as well.. this *MIGHT* continue along the same path..

    where that info at?

EDIT: are you talking about the free entry to tourneys for a year? if so, I'd much rather earn a trip to Nats or at least have 3 rounds at regionals or something that matters.

you don't think FREE entry to all state events for a year is a good prize? do you play magic? if you do.. you get to play FOR FREE for the year.. A trip to nat's would be a good prize too.. instead of giving away via city champs.. because right now states leads nowhere.. but that does not mean that several hundred dollars worth of entry fee for the year is not worth something either..

in NC we will be having states.. same as normal except location.. now if wizards is supporting it like they used to? or if it will be an "official" premier event? who knows.. as of right now wizards "canceling" of states has just led to the PTO's saying screw you.. we're holding it anyway.. Which might or might not get wizards to reconsider.. But, in NC.. one will be held.. that is all.

Is that why ***s are hard to get?

IDK something like that is scandalis, it would mean they've been lying all this time about what rarity really means.

yes.. there was a time when *** was a few % points less likely to be in a pack than other rares think like 7th/8th editions althought I am not sure it was specifically those. In a magic the gathering.com article Maro even said that this was the case, althought I am at a loss for finding it now..

I heard from my store judge today that the getting multiple kits idea is total bs, and that every TO of any kind gets one kit. He was adamant about the accuracy of this, and agreed with how pathetic it is. He is convinced that the reaction to this change will make sure that it never happens again.

While i know that wizards is smoking a phat blunt with these changes.. but I think your store judge prolly has got it wrong. I am sure that there is a hardcap on how many kits the stores can get, I am equally sure that it is not just 24. There are entirely too many stores out there that would get more than 24 people.. Unforunately for all the players out there I am also very sure that there will be a 25th person or a late person that wont be able to play in a store's 1 single player flight. But the PTO's who are still in business are still able to hold multiple flights all day, so lets see if players figure that out..

I don't understand the problem...here in italy the PR works like this:
At 10 a.m. the flight starts, only one flight, and in the afternoon we have 1/2 side event drafts...
So I don't understand the problem of not doing more than 1 flight a-day, here it's always worked like that Rolleyes

here in america pre-releases are HUGE touraments with hundreds of people playing in dozens of flight a day. the flights start in the morning and go until night-time. You can play in as many as you want to pay for... The prize support is about 3 packs per player and you can also play in drafts or 2 headed giant as well!! The pre-release is also a 2 day event, so if you can't make saturday then you can come sunday...

oh wait.. thats how it WAS.. in Italy you should not see any change in how your pre-releases work, other than losing drafts... here our pre-releases are a horse with a broken leg.. just waiting to be shot.

now the pre-release will be a much smaller event, even if your local PTO is still holding a large pre-release (and be happy if they are**) the location wont be a hotel or convetion center anymore, look for a big store with 1 dealer. PTO's can still run mutiple flights a day, although there will be fewer people at their event to sign up for those multiple flights.. And there should be 2gh at PTO events, but no draft at any pre-release event. At your local FNM store you will get 1 event run either just saturday or if your local store is (advanced TO level) big enough both saturday and sunday. Also prize support for the pre-release is cut to 1 pack prize per person by wizards.. so if you were used to getting say 12 packs for winning a flight welcome to getting 4 instead.

**because PTO's are now putting their finicial butts on the line with razor thin margins in direct competition with local stores for players..

And please if you are really think that local stores are going to shake hands with their direct local competion and agree to only run events 1 day or stagger their events or something.. your smoking far too much blunt, pass it man your only going to destroy your lungs as well as your mind if you keep this up.

Urza is my favorite charecter so screw off! (Just jking). But seriously, Urza is really my favorite hero.

I agree.. and yes.. everyone dies.. but i mean thats the price you pay to destroy the ultimate evil... as a immortal planeswalker you uses mortals to fight your battles for you... as cannon fodder and research specimins.. just like in the third star wars movie.. obi wan sends clone star fighter pilots to their death/fight.. because that was their purpose. taken as a whole the brother's war is a epic story, that takes about 10+ books to complete.. (i just saw 16 magic sets between ice age and apoc.) I loved those books and storyline.. the books and plot now pale in comparison.. the phat pack with some packs and the set's book were always the first thing i would buy after a set's release.. now the books are such trash that i would not even waste time on them if they were free.

My point is that no matter how good the story is, hollywood is not going to spend the time and money making the movie good.. it will be like the D&D movie again.. you take a rich vivid world where anything can happen and you get a random crap movie about a crappy thief and a dragon controling wand.. like i said if they make a magic movie.. it will be 90 minutes of pure drivel, and prolly have 8 year olds playing the card game and magically a shivan dragon (charazard)appears from right out of a card and fights the ... whatever lame enemy they pick..
