I don't know if I'm lucky or what, but I just made an Elf deck, a fun one not a competitive one, but it can beat Goblins, Kuldotha Red, UW Control, Mono Black Control!!! I played in MWS and I'm just getting amazed here with my list. So this is it:
Any thoughts? The last time I played Nissa was months ago, I played her again today and she did quiet good job, especially against Reds. Use only 1 Garruk 2.0 only to have drawer for late game. Adaptive Automaton is not that bad you guys think. It can be targets for burns and counters, while Archdruid and Ezuri can go freely.
This is a Genesis build, 61 cards with only 3 non-permanents!
LOL good job admin, I don't like it too when people talking about future elves after rotation, seems like elves got no hope. We don't know anything yet about Innistrad, dudes, so yeah stop talking about it and start playing with M12.
So the new Adaptive Automaton seems like a good fit here. Thoughts? Solemn Simulacrum too looks like can make 2-3 slot here.
i still vote that although your deck seems ok... it needs focus and tuning... also what is your meta?
Haven't seen most of Legacy deck coz I'm new here But I saw Affinity deck, Enchantress and Thopter Foundry deck... So what sideboard usually most people here have?
Umm... most elf lists run 8 to 11 tutors between zenith, wish, and pact. This is because you are a combo deck and need to tutor for whatever piece of the combo you are missing so you can go off faster and more reliably. His deck is already very focused, except I personally think that crossroads is trash, but I guess it works for some people.
Hmm crossroads is to make mana rampers like Archdruid and Titania haste, so you'll get bunch lots of mana with only 1 mana used. It's worth it I think!
what is this??? do you use the summoners pact to fetch a spirit guide for free G?? lol but seriously what are all the creature tutors for? it seems very over the top with several win more options...
Pact used as when I'm nearly on winning condition, I can tutor Nettle Sentinel or untappers for free
Haven't tested it yet, still looking for opponent.
Hey guys, any list of Teneb EDH post NPH? I just realize that I got the deck, but I don't up date it until Eldrazi So, what's new on the deck strategy?
@moderator (in respond to post #805): I'm not saying I don't have money to buy some of the cards. I just don't want to buy it that's all, so don't say I'm making a budget version, dude, I just make ANOTHER version. Thanks.
1. I'd rather attack a planes walker with VV than destroying planes walkers with BW. These anti-planes walker plans conflict with each other as an aggressive deck.
2. Land destruction that gives our opponent a blocker is bad in the valakut match up. Inkmoth Nexus can be removed with regular instant artifact destruction.
3. Act of aggression is better for these roles.
4. I like BW for this purpose and converting one of our lands into a blocker against red, but falls into cute category.
1. Against red, I'm not so sure even your creatures can live for long. Besides, I playing against red means we need to take more damage TO PLAYER, not TO PLANESWALKER. If you BWed Koth, you can attack all to player.
2. Giving Valakut player a 3/3 blocker is far, far, far more better than keeping a Valakut alive. Looks like you haven't battled Valakut so you don't know how annoying it is.
3. Act of Aggression in Elves is totally sucks. I don't wanna ever lost my life for things such card which not a winning condition.
4. This can be also good too, opponent cast Slagstorm, we respond to destroy his land with BW, then the token will be destroyed too by Slagstorm! Such fun trivia lol.
i too think elves are better without shaman-vine.
Green sun searches better than fauna... I dont like the card disadvantage created by shaman. Shaman is ok, if you have VV in hand... but what if you dont? i dont want to discard my other stuff. Even if i have VV in hand, FS usually eats a bolt regardless.
Vengevine itself can be good becasue of its reoccurance, but it isnt an elf, and creates anti synergy with Arch Druid & Ezuri. it also causes you to hold back (in top-deck mode) or overextend at opportune times, as you have to play 2 elves to bring it back.
i really wish Elf Replica was reprinted in standard, as that would make glissa worth running in elves.
EQ said he isn't playing the ShamanVine Engine because he doesn't have the cards, not that he thinks the deck is better without it. If you make claims that Elves is better without the 2 best green creatures in standard, you simply do not own the cards and are desperately trying to make yourself believe that you do not need them. Or you're just bad. Hell, maybe I'm wrong and we would be better off without one of the best packages in standard. People, get this straight: Fauna Shaman is our Stoneforge Mystic. Vengevine is our Jace, the Mind Sculptor. And Copperhorn Scout is our Sword of Feast and Famine. You could even say Vengevine is our Squadron Hawk and Ezuri, Renegade Leader is our Jace, the Mind Sculptor. Get the point? We do, in fact, need those cards and we are so much better with them than without.
On another note, I'm feeling we overrated Beast Within. I'm not sure it's more important than either Lead the Stampede or Green Sun's Zenith. Maybe a 2-of in the MD or not at all?
Well yeah I don't use the package because I don't want to buy them that's all. Yeah this is kind of different politics you know, I know you guys still insist saying the package is great, and I'm not saying it's bad. I just wanna make a version without it, without saying the package is sucks or anything else. Well just give ourselves each others some opinions or tips so that we can learn a lot from it.
And I've got some points on + and - on Vengevine and Fauna Shaman:
Vengevine
+ Haste 4/3
+ Can be revived
- Not an elf, but no so that bad though I also use Obstinate Baloth maindeck
- Makes our ammo run out fast (This point why I don't wanna use VV. In my meta here more of them are controls. Let say I get controlled by got swept out, then cast 2 creatures, VV revived then attack for 4. Next turn got swept again, so then what's the point on only losing our ammos and attack for 4? Just my opinion though, you like it or not it's up to you.) -> This point why LtS is a staple card I think.
Fauna Shaman
+ 2/2 elf which is quite good
+ Can tutor our key cards
- It got sickness (Which means we can only active the ability on turn 3/4. At that time when we looked at opponent's field, Sword already in play, Koth and Jace already in play, got maybe 6-8 poison counters. It's too slow guys.)
- Needs one more extra mana
- Discarding ability is bad unless you discard VV. *Note opponent got Surgical Extraction, you discard Llanowar, they cast SE, then you lost all you ammos and dorks.
Again, that's just only my opinions. Not to say we have a better deck without them. Comments are welcome.
*Just a note, I'm playing elves just looking for some fun, I'm not looking for a championship title or some kind of that. Just wanna play MTG with my ideas.
Why is everybody trying to bring Beast Within into their elf decks? I like the card, but for an aggro deck really? How many people here think that Beast Within belongs in elves?
Well basically playing MTG is a strategy base. Playing only Elves aggro without such control card like Beast Within, only makes the winning percentage about 50%. But with BW main decked, it raise the percentage about 70%. Why? Because BW has lots of potential:
1. Obviously Koth, Jace, Gideon destroyer. Elves hates those guys.
2. Destroy lands like Valakut and Inkmoth, when Tectonic is not out.
3. Makes big guys (Titans, Obliterator) into 3/3 Beast.
4. Against red, we can exchange our creature. Let say opponent burned our Ezuri, respond BW into Ezuri, we get 3/3 creature which is not really bad.
Maindecking Beast Within is not really bad, I take 3 main and 1 sideboard, along with 4 GSZ and 3 LTS, it takes some good matchups though. I NEVER found BW become a dead card.
Tested again and the results:
2-0 vs Valakut (thanks to main decked Obstinate Baloth)
2-1 vs Mono Black Vampire (really hates Anowon)
0-2 vs Mono White Artifact (DAMN THIS DECK REALLY FAST! 1 Slime, 2 Corrupter, 4 Beast Within, 3 Nature's Claim already in the deck still can't kill it. Bad draw obviously).
Been tested my deck post NPH, with package 3 LTS, 4 GSZ and 3 Beast Within. No Vengevines or Fauna Shamans, been 2-0 vs RDW and 2-0 vs GW QuestVine.
Still looking for another Tier 1 decks.
Looks like we already got all anti-thread-card for us:
Mass Removal: Ezuri, Renegade Leader , Eldrazi Monument
Burns: Obstinate Baloth, Nissa Revane, Leyline of Vitality
Infect & BSZ: Melira, Sylvok Outcast
Annihilator Effect: Tajuru Preserver
Counter & Bouncer: Thrun, the Last Troll
Artifact: Nature's Claim, Viridian Corrupter, Beast Within
Planeswalker: Phyrexian Revoker, Hex Parasite, Beast Within
Land: Acidic Slime, Tectonic Edge, Beast Within
The only problem now is how to make the deck stable. I mean stable here is that we can have our solutions fast and easy way in G2. And I mean stability here is that we need to keep consistent in early and late game. Because usually green aggro deck cannot handle the late game. Thoughts on this?
We're not in the business of playing an unreliable combo, we're in the business of destroying our opponent as quickly and consistently as possible.
I'm not saying we need to discuss the combo deck, I only think that because THIS THREAD IS MONO GREEN ELVES, therefore ALL DECKS mono green, with or without Vengevines, Fauna Shaman, or any other cards, SHOULD BE DISCUSSED. Because that's the purpose of a forum.
Anyway I'm still going to make the fun combo deck, tested in MWS, tell you the results later.
What do you guys think of the new Infect-type Elves? Glistener Elf along with Triumph of the Hordes makes the archtype quite appealing to me.
I also thought this would be an interesting ideas. Elves with trample and so much pumper, along with Infect, sure it will win the game fast. Don't know yet about the consistency.

I just know that my list, can make turn 2-3 wins most of the times. hahaha

Not like the competitive deck one, this deck's point is simple, thinning your deck using land tutors, GSZ, and making LtS takes more creatures.
Well yeah I don't use the package because I don't want to buy them that's all.
