Feb 22, 2012Post Affinity posted a message on Hygiene ShmygieneSomething funny about that, I've played with the same protectors for years and I never had those marks, that is, until I moved and started to play in Santiago, once there, I had those small marks everywhere!Posted in: JollyTheOctopuss Blog
I believe those marks are pollution on the air, and most importantly, in the tables that get stuck to your sleeves. Most probably they appear doe to more younger players not using playmats wich makes their sleeves get dirtier much easier. And well, playmats are kinda costly, so yeah, I'd kind of justify that act. But that's just my opinion, sorry for invading your blog. -
Feb 20, 2012Post Affinity posted a message on My first standard birthing pod deck!Well, it certainly it's all around the place, but I guess you already knew that. First thing I see here is that it needs the other titans, they are just that good. It's kinda annoying how they dominate the format, but that's not what should be discussed here. I believe Pod is more about utility creatures than hard to remove ones, so I'd keep slime before Vorapede, besides, at that cost there won't be as much stuff to ramp to as to make vorapede that more threatening. Solemn Simulacrum is also a card that almost always goes in these decks since the ramp and card draw are excellent when you go with pod.Posted in: dooglestyle Blog
Something fun about the masticore is how it can use up all the creatures that end up dead due to the birthing pod itself, that's good thinking.
I tend to like U more than B in pod decks, somehow the fact that the clone effects are so abundant in standard make that color stand out more, I mean, just cloning a titan with phantasmal image is devastating...
Well, that's my opinion, I hope it served for something. -

Feb 13, 2012Post Affinity posted a message on El clan que nunca fue - The clan that never was.I swear to god it's the first time I read of this idea, and I certainly support it. I'd gladly change to this clan. (My current clan is pretty dead.) Having no spanish speaking moderator may lead to some problems with the site staff though.Posted in: The Blog of Gaea's Regent
However, count me in with the idea. - To post a comment, please login or register a new account.
Also, I don't see how Guardians of Meletis or Aqueous Form add to the deck anything of value.
4 Tethmos High Priest
4 Jace, Vryn's Prodigy
4 Agent of the Fates
4 Pain Seer
4 Seeker of the Way
4 Valorous Stance
4 Ajani's Presence
4 Triton Tactics
4 Bloodsoaked Champion
4 Caves of Koilos
4 Mana Confluence
4 Plains
4 Island
4 Swamp
A very rough draft since I haven't completly checked what may be good for this deck, but you get the idea, loads of card advantage through Pain Seer/Jace/Diciple, some toolbox use out of Diciple, various combat tricks and answers and reanimation with Champion and High Priest, used to perform semi-decently, but I really have no idea how'd it do in the current meta.
4 Ghostfire Blade
4 Illusory Angel
4 Ornithopter
4 Springleaf Drum
4 Cloudform
4 Stubborn Denial
4 Phyrexian Revoker
4 Frost Walker
2 Thassa's Bident
4 Darksteel Citadel
3 Tomb of the Spirit Dragon
15 Island
It has been performing amazingly, being able to race most control decks and compete decently against Abzan Midrange. If I'd add something from Origins I'd replace the Biddents (which have been useless more often than not) with Day's Undoing (deck empties its hand amazingly fast.)
I'd say Sideboard is meta dependent as always. But I include Reality Shifts against Creature heavy decks as well as Triton Tactics, Negate against control and Whelming Waves that have been a priceless tool against red and general token decks.
But trust me, the deck can certainly race Siege Rhino when built correctly, something like this:
4 Ghostfire Blade
4 Illusory Angel
4 Ornithopter
4 Springleaf Drum
4 Cloudform
4 Stubborn Denial
4 Phyrexian Revoker
4 Frost Walker
2 Thassa's Bident
4 Darksteel Citadel
3 Tomb of the Spirit Dragon
15 Island
Of course, by this point it's a huge deviation from your vision. Mono-brown has still its merits, as being impervious to Ugin and Ultimate Price, I'd still consider Ornithopte there, if only because it helps attack earlier with Bonded Servitor and gives evasive beats with Ghostfire Blade. Hewed-Stone Guardians would also become a considerable addition at that point, as it makes it earlier to cast on turn 3.
4 Deathmist Raptor
4 Whisperwood Elemental
4 Sidisi's Faithful
4 Dragon's Eye Savants
4 Monastery Flock
4 Icefeather Aven
2 Profaner of the Dead
4 Secret Plans
4 Communion with the Gods
4 Yavimaya Coast
4 Temple of Mystery
2 Tomb of the Spirit Dragon
6 Forest
6 Island
Yep, it's an Assault Formation deck, it's surprisingly synergistic though, the Faithful can either become a terribly early beatstick if Assault Formation favors you or allow you to clean the road as a slow version of unsummon, Secret Plans amusingly enough actually buffs your creatures with Assault Formation and Communion with the gods can actually feed raptors to your graveyard, hopefully. Dragon's eye Savants utilty increases drastically as they can now become a very menacing creature and Monastery Flock can fight as the best of dragons, of course, that's all counting on you having Assault Formation on board, but even if that plan fails, raptors and whisperwoods can become terrible threats on their own alongside the many, many ways you've got to bounce the opponent's board, of particular interest is the Profaner of the Dead, who also synergizes well with all the high thoughness creatures in the deck.
It's a very fun deck, provided you can afford the raptors and elementals, and it can certainly help give the morph route a little more punching power.
Main problem is that the deck is a nonbo with Ugin's Construct.
There's still the problem that the deck's kinda too reliant on Battlefield Thaumaturge though.
Here's the Deck I use her in.
So what is this?
As I've stated in another thread, I'd been tinkering with finding a place for Disciple of Deceit and Agent of Fates since a good while already, as I do believe they are some very powerful cards in the right environment, who unfortunately haven't found a place yet.
So of course I set out myself to build a deck around them (somewhat). I've been playing with this roughly since RTR rotated out, and while not a stellar performance, I still think this has potential:
4 Tethmos High Priest
4 Pain Seer
4 Disciple of Deceit
4 Agent of Fates
4 Ajani's Presence
4 Tormented Hero
4 Triton Tactics
4 Valorous Stance
2 Hero's Demise
1 Return to the Ranks
2 Temple of Mistery
4 Caves of Koilos
4 Swamp
5 Plains
2 Island
4 Temple of Deceit
The mana base is Surprisingly reliable, I rarely get mana screwed, though probably I should change one of those plains for an Island... and a Swamp for an Urborg.
Regardless, the strategy of the deck is mostly being versatile, a quick beatdown with some creatures at the beginning of the game, courtesy of Seeker of the Way and Tormented Hero, not to mention the all stars that is Pain Seer while protecting them with any of the combat tricks.
In the later game you can start bringing them back with Thetmos High Priest or, if the game has really dragged on for long, Return to the Ranks. Which can be conveniently fetched with Disicple of Deceit.
The Disiple indeed does have various neat tricks to her, not only is a surprisingly good blocker early, but it can really help balance your hand as needed, and when you've got a Thetmos in game can become a neat little recursion engine, discarding stuff, looking your library for a combat trick and then reviving whatever you've discarded.
Agent of Fates of course is an excellent tool when you realize your deck doesn't have much way around your opponents big creatures, like the ever present Rhino, though the removal pack contained here should be able to deal with it if all fails, the mere presence of the agent does put some good pressure on your opponents.
Of course, I won't say this deck is without its faults, sometimes it's ain't resilient enough against aggro nor aggresive enough for control, but that's what you get for playing a tool-boxy deck. Nonetheless this is a fun deck, which is still in a constant updating, I just removed the Springleaf Drums I had to maindeck the Hero's Downfalls, or the Valorous Stances who used to be Feats of Resistance.
But still, I'd like to hear more opinions on this deck, as it's real fun to try, and with some tuning could even prove to actually be competitive in the right hands.
In the same vein, Disciple of Deceit sounded really good on paper, and it has proven stellar in the deck I play but, yeah, kinda difficult to find a home for that card.
4 Agent of the Fates
4 Ajani's Presence
4 Feat of Resistance
4 Tethmos High Priest
4 Tormented Hero
4 Triton Tactics
4 Disciple of Deceit
4 Battlewise Hoplite
2 Springleaf Drum
1 Return to the Ranks
4 Caves of Koilos
4 Temple of Deceit
2 Temple of Silence
5 Island
4 Swamp
2 Plains
So yeah, it's not the classical Heroic build, it actually barely fits the W/X Heroics appelative, yet I believe this is the best place to share it.
Basic idea is to surpass the classical problem that Heroic deck have, a tendency to run out of gas fast and be left out of options, having to rely too much on combat tricks that aren't really good on their own. To make up for this, I added cards that helped with the card draw and the consistency, in other words, the disciple and the Pain Seer. As I would be frequently be discarding creatures to the Disciple and, let's admit it, the Heroic creatures would die frequently anyways, I thought a reanimator subtheme to this deck would go together great, the casting cost limit doesn't hurt much as most heroic creatures are cheap anyways and that way I can keep the Seer withouth worrying about hurting myself too much. The single Return to the Ranks has been performing excellently, as it can be tutored up with the Disciple and then return a bunch of creatures en masse, the Convoke also plays together well with the Inspired creatures.
All in all it's a pretty synergistic deck, though it lacks in raw power, the Agent of the Fates being the only real way of getting rid of big threats, so it's got a bullseye painted on it at all times. I'm still not sure about the Sideboard, though Ordeal of Heliod will most likely go in to combat Rabble Red decks, and I'm considering artisan of forms and Retraction Helix depending on how the format shapes.
So far this deck has won the FNM yesterday, though that's more due to me having a mostly complete deck while everyone else was playing whatever they had that was still legal rather than due to the deck's own merit.
Still, I'd like to hear second opinions.
