Grim Lavamancer doesn't quite fill the same role. Something like Arbor Elf is far more likely to ramp into a turn 2 Liliana. Bloodbraid Elf doesn't quite deserve a ban, but I think Maro's too stubborn to unban it.
Maybe they need to hire new developers so that mana costs aren't absurdly overcosted on so many new cards. Just look at all the cards going to waste that could have been playable had they cost 1 less mana
Modern was never a good format and it never will be. I seriously love how the format has become so terrible that everyone practically demands cards be unbanned in order to make it halfway interesting again.
Don't play formats that COULD be good; play ones that ARE good. <3 Legacy.
Good point, legacy is great. Now if they could only do something about that there reserved list it would be even better
Reason: Nobody uses Vesuva without Cloudpost. Many people, however, would use Cloudpost without Vesuva alongside Glimmerpost. Taking out Vesuva weakens the deck slightly, putting it on about the same power level as Tron. This would give us two playable ramp-land decks.
Reason: Clear up space on the banned list mostly. Only affinity uses Cranial Plating. Tons of decks can use the artifact lands. This is how pauper has it and it has been working fine for quite some time now (look! precedent!)
Reason: Grapeshot is only used as a win condition for a few combo decks. Song is acceleration for many types of storm, hive mind, big red, and other such decks. Grapeshot and the storm mechanic, as I see it, will always be the more degenerate card.
Reason: Bridge is just a stupid card that is only used in very specific decks, and only in conjunction with Dread Return. Return, on the other hand, is a very powerful strategy, but saw play in both Type II Solar Flare decks and would allow for Modern Dredge to be a competitive decktype. Without Cabal Therapy, dredge as a whole still loses a ton of power.
Arbor does see play since it can be fetched, but I think Green Sun adds more overall to the game. Taking away the creature land stops the turn 1 Green Sun for zero into arbor play.
If this should be in the Create-a-card forum, it can be moved to there, but the cube thread isn't so that is the precedent I am going by.
This thread is for designing cards that you want to see printed in modern, but can also be printed in a standard legal set, so be aware of the power levels.
Perhaps they are cards that are fixed versions of a banned card, a weakened version of a powerful legacy card, something that helps a specific archetype which just isn't there yet, or it can just be a great utility creature or hate bear to combat the current meta.
Anyways, I'll start off:
Stalking Mongoose1G {U}
Creature - Mongoose
Hexproof (this creature can't be the target of spells or abilities your opponents control)
Stalking Mongoose gets +1/+1 for each nonbasic land card your opponents control.
1/1
A budget tarmogoyf who in many cases is even stronger than goyf. This would help bring the price of goofy down and also act as a punisher to players using too many nonbasic lands.
KindlingR {C}
Sorcery
Add RR to your mana pool.
This is the fixed Rite of Flame. Helps power up the storm combo a little bit, as well as helping out the All-in red archetype.
And lastly,
SpellbindUU {C}
Instant
Counter target spell with converted mana cost 3 or less.
A fixed version of counterspell for control decks that can't be played around like mana leak can, but can only hit low costed spells.
That's it for now, what do you players have in mind? What would you like to see in modern?

Maro has no say in what gets banned or unbanned

Oh no, not this again.
You weren't one of those guys who complained and wrote letters after mana burn was removed, were you?

Unban -> Stoneforge Mystic
Ban -> Batterskull
Reason: Noone uses Batterskull in modern, really. Stoneforge without Batterskull would certainly be used but wouldn't be degenerate.
Unban -> Cloudpost
Ban -> Vesuva
Unban -> All the artifact lands
Ban -> Cranial Plating
Reason: Clear up space on the banned list mostly. Only affinity uses Cranial Plating. Tons of decks can use the artifact lands. This is how pauper has it and it has been working fine for quite some time now (look! precedent!)
Unban -> Seething Song
Ban -> Grapeshot
Reason: Grapeshot is only used as a win condition for a few combo decks. Song is acceleration for many types of storm, hive mind, big red, and other such decks. Grapeshot and the storm mechanic, as I see it, will always be the more degenerate card.
Unban -> Dread Return, Golgari Grave-Troll
Ban -> Bridge From Below
Unban -> Green Sun's Zenith
Ban -> Dryad Arbor
Arbor does see play since it can be fetched, but I think Green Sun adds more overall to the game. Taking away the creature land stops the turn 1 Green Sun for zero into arbor play.
Thoughts?
