Yeah, I'd go with Avalanche Riders main, too. Pod and Tron aren't popular enough combined to make Ingot Chewer worth it maindeck (especially since it's semi-dead pre-board against Jund and UWR).
Other deck tips:
3 Living Ends are probably good enough unless you run into grindy match-ups in every single game. Living End is almost dead when it's in hand.
I'd pull Forbidden Orchard for a land and a Dryad Arbor. You still need a land-based way to turn on Demonic Dread, but when you've mulled to 5 and you're digging crazily for a Cascade spell, or when post-M14 decks stick Scavenging Ooze and you need the Beast Within, you will hate the tokens that Forbidden Orchard gives to your opponent.
Thanks for the tips guys! Definitely did the change and seeing way better results even against Pod by just blowing land after land up. Did a bit of testing and a lot of discussing and pretty excited for this. So, just wanted to get some opinions of the some changes and definitely the sideboard. Also, as much as I love turn 2 combo sometimes, might drop the Simians.
I'm still bouncing on the Forbidden Orchard thing and might go with your opinion since I have ran into a few times being a problem when wanting to cast Beast Within, or Riders. Might do a Dryad Arbor and an Overgrown Tomb.
The 4th Living End was in there cause I had a real tendency to draw two and have to go all in on the last one when I played it online, was really annoying against any control deck.
And from what I've gathered from players at my LGS, looking at 2-3 Pods, 1 Seismic Loam, 1 Beck and Elves, 1 Maze's End, 1 Scapeshift, 1 RG aggro, and 1 RG Tron. So far my opinion has been to expect this and a second set from outsiders.
So, any advice on the sideboard or any of these match ups?
Thanks for everything so far and hopefully I'll come home with some cash
So just a quick question since I don't really know the metagame right now for Modern and playing in a money tournament this weekend. What do you think would be better? 2 Avalanche Riders main, or 2 Ingot Chewers main? Kinda going on the opinion of main deck graveyard hate or popularity of Pod decks. This is what I have right now...
Yeah, I know is a bit different and I'm missing a few things that show up on the winning lists. But so far it has been really fun for me this way, just the question about which way I should go with some Riders or Chewers. Any comments are nice to know. Thanks!
Hey guys, speaking of sui-black. I'm about to start playing Pauper hopefully soon and was building this archtype. I don't know anything about the format at all but, kinda just happy to play the cards I used to long ago. This is what I have so far....
The only change I know right now is the Unholy Strength's for Predator's Gambit, just didn't know the card till now. And probably should run Geth's Verdict over Diabolic Edict. I do like the idea of Bump in the Night, and Dash Hopes and might find room for them somewhere. I like Carrion Feeder and Sangrophage. Any other suggestions?
Hey guys. I started playing GWr Enchantress a few years ago and didn't get to play much, but getting a opportunity to play it soon and was looking at updating my decklist a bit. I've done a few changes and this is what I have so far:
The only thing I know I don't have is a Moat, and don't nearly have the money for one. I saw people using Sigarda in their decks, is that still a useful plan?
I don't have my sideboard made yet but probably Vexing Shusher, Humility, Leyline of Sanctity, Stoney Silence, and not sure what else. Definitely need suggestions on that. Also, I don't know if this has been talked about and probably sounds crazy, but what about Boros Charm? I was thinking about it and it can block those annoying mass enchantment destructions or give the angels double strike to win a turn or two earlier.
I can see that. Might try dropping her down and putting back in the Blood Artist, or maybe try something new with some of the hybrid cards. She was mainly another sac outlet but rather get this to be more consistent on pushing damage.
So, just a little note for the BW players still hanging on. I played my deck at FNM last night and ended up going 4-0. Maybe it was a bit of luck but some of the gimmicks worked and won.
Kinda threw in some cards at the last minute from friends suggestions and never got a real chance to use them. Never got a chance to cast Immortal Servitude or really use Glaring Spotlight. Frontline Medic was pretty nice though to get battalion with Lingering Souls. Blood Artist was under performing and probably will come out. Cartel Aristocrat was great, Thrull Parasite never got a chance. And Obzedat is amazing, actually opened another one in my prize pool and bumped up to three of him. Like every time he dropped, I ended up winning.
Matchups:
Round 1 vs Esper Control - 2-0
Game 1: He had to mulligan and put him behind. Lingering Souls and Cartel Aristocrat just went hammering and won.
Game 2: Went Bloodthrone then Geralf's, doing 7 damage turn 3. He dropped a Gideon and pumped him up, but I sent a few at him and a few at Gideon to make sure he didn't get too big. Jace, Architect of Though followed so I just switched all to the player. Finished it up with Obzedat coming down and ate his life away cause Supreme Verdict don't slow him down.
Round 2 vs UWR Geist - 2-1
Game 1: Didn't see many creatures, held what I could with Cartel and Restoration Angel, but Geist is still Geist and couldn't stop him. Gideon followed and got big, attacked and gained double strike with Boros Charm.
Game 2: Did similar to game 2 in the previous round, Cartel with Geralf's, getting in 6 damage. Held his creatures down and kept pushing the damage through.
Game 3: Whiffed on an Appetite for Brains but revealed few creatures, so I dropped Bloodthrone, then Geralf's for 7 damage, then Lingering Souls. Got slowed up by Aureia's Fury but Obzedat came down and killed.
Round 3 vs Jund Aggro - 2-1
This round was probably the hardest.
Game 1: Didn't hit much on creatures and his guys got pumped. Experiment One to Dreg Mangler to Zealous Conscripts.
Game 2: My deck put out the creatures better than him. Frontline traded with Dreg Mangler, Lingering Souls stalled and got through with Geralf's damage, Restoration Angel, and Cartel walking on by.
Game 3: Bit more control on my part with Fiend Hunter, and Oblivion Ring. Got pretty rough near the end but ate the Fiend Hunter for some damage and brought the Lolteth Troll out from under him. Then second main Terminus to bottom deck everything. Ripped Obzedat and finished it.
Round 4 vs Turbo Fog - 2-0
Game 1: Curved pretty perfectly doing big damage and attacks. Got a bit slowed by Fog but eventually was able to just drain him for the game.
Game 2: Pretty much the same just with Obzedat clocking him too.
Sorry if I'm not too detailed in my games but its the best I can remember. Was a lot of fun and glad to see it work. Its a little scattered now but made a few changes and probably going to sleak it up better. Dropped an Immortal Servitude and 2 Blood Artist to bring Lingering and Cartel back to 4 and a 3rd Obzedat. Saw some other games where Blind Obedience did a lot of work and might add some either in the main or in the sideboard. See how it goes next week and watch the SCG Open to see what happens. If it doesn't, might try the BRW route Any opinions on Vexing Devil? Seems fun to cast and bring him back with Orzhov Charm.
As for the Human Frailty comment, you'd be shocked just how often it does matter. Boros and Naya are going to be "things" and I'll take a fast answer to a turn one Champion any day. Might not be worth 2 main, but it's totally worth 3-4 SB. As for Killing Wave, I agree that it isn't the correct answer for maindeck, and would end up becoming more of a paniced way to end the game fast. I wanted to try Killing Glare because it was instant speed removal that I could cast early on if needed against aggro. Never was a factor last night, so I'm keeping it in until I find it to be not as good as hoped.
Since you brought this up, I've been thinking of trying Death Wind over Killing Glare. The main reason was against decks that pump their dudes, Death Wind still affects them even if they pump in response to the Wind, whereas if they pump in response to Killing Glare, it fizzles. Its just a little thing and I could totally be wrong, just something I saw mentioned in a video about Killing Glare.
Like the deck though and might change mine around a bit. How effective was the Sorins? Just trying to avoid dropping the dollars for them at the moment.
So, after some fishing around and trying out new things, this is what I'm thinking of going with for B/W Ghost Dad. Not really sure on the sideboard and if the mana is correct yet but would like to hear some opinions on it.
Not sure what else to put in the sideboard and might try changing Tragic Slip to Devour Flesh, but from the talk of Boros, might keep the Slips. Also, might add a Knight or two for the sideboard.
Just to throw in my bits since I was thinking on a similar deck today and figured I would throw it up. It didn't use much of the new Gatecrash cards but probably will add in some if I can get a hold of them. Pretty much with Godless Shrine back, I realized you could do some crazy instant damage with Geralf's Messenger and Cloudshift or Restoration Angel, since she resets Geralf's Undying counter. Probably will add in Obzedat for another creature to trick around with.
Here's what I planned before this thread:
Probably add in two Obzedat and maybe some of the Aristocrat. Haven't come up with a sideboard yet but probably O-ring, Fiend Hunter, more kill spells, Blind Obedience. Not sure really. Thanks for any tips and comments!
Remove Mutilate from your sideboard thus it doesn't make sense with only 14 legitimate Swamps on your list, I assume you added it due to Sigarda, Host of Herons and the pesky populate tokens but I think Barter in Blood(assuming the opponent is playing large creatures at most two) or even creatures with deathtouch would do the trick since she has no first strike.
Thanks and totally makes sense. Was just kinda there for a sweeper and something in case if tokens get to big for Golgari Charm to deal with. Guessing that Nighthawk and Liliana can take care of single biggies.
Any thoughts on the mainboard?
Hey guys, I've been pretty on board with BG Zombies and was looking for any tweaking or suggestions for what I've got so far. I've done some slight testing against Junk Tokens, Bant, and UW Miracles. Been pretty good against the first Junk and Miracles, decent against Bant.
So here we go:
Just looking for suggestions and maybe a way to fit Appetite for Brains in the sideboard, thinking Liliana of the Veil coming out since I feel Appetite is more effective in more matchups. So far, I've liked Bloodthrone Vampire as my other 2-drop. She makes combat a bit more tricky, even more so with a Rancor on her. She can setup escapes from Pillar of Flame and can get big for Jarad to throw. Might be living in Christmas land but has worked out for me. Any thoughts?
Here is what I've been doing, haven't gotten a good chance to test it yet though. Mainly, looking for suggestions of things I might of missed or better then what I have now.
Just to say it before the obvious comes up, I would like to play Abrupt Decay and hoping to, just haven't dropped the money down on it yet and hoping to open some instead. Seems like my list is rolling in the same direction as most. Any other ideas for it? Thanks!
Hello, I've been playing Enchantress for a while now but haven't gotten a chance to play in any tournaments. Just out of curiosity, has anyone thought of using Abundant Growth in the deck over Utopia Sprawl. I know it doesn't ramp mana but it definitely draws a card on top of Enchantress draws and can be cast on any land. Any thoughts?
So I got ot go with my Zombie Panda deck to this week's FNM, and did my best. I went 2-1-1, and ended up 5th out of 23. My only loss was to those darn Faeries, but he had VERY good hands, both games, turn 2 Bitterblossom, it sucked hard. I won against a strange deck with a lot of tech, but I ran it over, one of the wins was a bye, lucky me. I could of won my draw, but I didnt want to risk it, and it was against a friend. We played it out, and I stomped him, lol. Having Fleshbag Marauder helped out bunches, bringing back in with Lord is a plus. That's probably the only new thing I learned from the deck. Hopefully next week this deck will keep rocking.
Thanks for the tips guys! Definitely did the change and seeing way better results even against Pod by just blowing land after land up. Did a bit of testing and a lot of discussing and pretty excited for this. So, just wanted to get some opinions of the some changes and definitely the sideboard.
