i dunno about adding persecutor .. how about 2 tombstalker instead?
tombstalker is a better fit in this sorta deck as it is easier to cast and equip in the same turn (and often costs no more than BB, or 1BB) .. not to mention that it doesn't have the massive drawback of the persecutor
I think a shift towards a more control build might be necessary to combat all the Zoo and Merfolk matchups.
I have always been a fan of BW, but never got into this sort of deck, as I prefer more control type builds.
If this deck is to go more control, how about cards like yawgmoth's agenda(late game huge card advantage), and Phyrexian Arena over Bob?
Also I think Desolation Angel might be a good 1 or 2 of as a surprise finisher, especially if you have already taken out their StP or PtE.
The discard suite, and the creatures like Hyppie and Sculler should remain as they are great disruption .. As should Vindicate (of course), and dark ritual as it allows great early plays and even a 5th turn Desolation Angel with kicker.
Be curious to know what you guys think? .. I have been playing a BW deck with these cards on and off for a while, and it does well vs. aggro match-ups and the disruption helps vs. control.
EDIT: also ethersworn canonist is good vs. combo, though with so much discard that matchup is not TOO bad
the tower is in there as another sac outlet for the persecutor, and also for some sort of acceleration via tokens and nether spirit .. it is definitely not needed, but i have found it handy at times
the card draw (or lack thereof) at times i found to be an issue, but to be honest, if i am not drawing into my combo i am drawing into some form of disruption until i hit my combo
i tried phyrexian arena in there, but the life loss was way too over the top coupled with the blossoms
if you wish to use the font of mythos, another great card is syphon life, which is also a very nice win-con .. in my later builds i replaced him with sorin (same ability) only because i wasnt drawing enough lands .. however with mythos or another draw engine that is not an issue
my list is not perfect by any means, which is why i have my eye open for recommendations all the time for it .. however i have found rituals and tutor effects not the most optimal .. usually hymn or duress hold me off until i hit the combo, and damnation and ratchet bomb (previously nevinyrral's disk) can help me stabilize the board prior to contamination lock
also man-lands have proven very useful in many of my games
i recommend you look at nether spirit again .. i understand the creatures you have now are good, but bloodghast is far from guaranteed recurssion (unless you use undiscovered paradise) .. and a bojuka bog can clear your own GY if a persecutor gets there earlier than planned
finally, i have tried to fit in crucible of worlds into my deck, especially with the factories, it can be another contamination feeder .. and also goes well with syphon life or bloodghast, depending on which card (or both) you choose to play
The deck works pretty straightforward; get out contamination and keep it going until persecutor hits. Persecutor can then be sacrificed to the contamination for the win.
The bogs are there for the many gy interacting decks out there, and can also help me keep the nether spirit engine running.
I realise disk is counter-productive, but it is there to get rid of pesky enchantments and artifacts.
I tried powder keg but found it too slow. I figure I never play the disk if the contamination lock is in play anyways.
Sorin Markov is a new addition, but it has impressed me so far.
Any suggestions to make this deck more consistent or any other ideas are welcome.
i saw no mention of elspeth, but i agree with Pilerboy that she will decline in value, and is probably best to sell right now
i see her from time to time in some legacy decks i face, but the duel deck coming out coupled with her rotation i think will drop her in the 20-25 range for good
wins with test of endurance obviously. I have found survival cache to be fantastic form of 'draw 2 cards gain 4 life' in this build, and coupled with harmonize provides good draws to make the deck run smoothly.
what do you guys think, or recommend to cut to get the 60?
since a lot of u make this new format out to be degenerate due to the lack of fow (and perhaps rightfully so) .. maybe wizards should just reprint fow in standard so that it can stay in this format
its not on the reserved list, right?
and really i dont think it would be too broken in T2 ..
Why not just fix the price of Legacy staples instead of making another format? This is what I didn't want to see, of all things.
that is the main point though .. the price of legacy staples is unfixable with the reserve list in place
and with the recent announcement that the reserve list is here to stay, there is no way to decrease legacy prices for the duals, fows etc etc
the reserve list does what it does best, and that is to strangle a format .. it did it to vintage and its is doing it to legacy
as long as there are those that want it in place, there needs to be an eternal format that allows reprints or it to will suffer the same price hike as vintage and legacy
as a huge fan of the invasion/odyssey blocks, i always thought the cards were unplayable in legacy due to the older more powerful cards, and that there should be a new format.
masques does seem like when mtg became modernized and less broken.
though i enjoy legacy now, this format sounds good.
who else thinks the fact that board sweepers like nevinyrral's disk and pernicious deed being created before the planeswalker type means they should get an edit thru errata perhaps to include the walker type?
if cards like vindicate and desert twister can hold up today against them, it makes no sense that these sweepers cant only because they were made before planeswalkers..
it'll ever happen, but i wanna know what you ppl think

your build is similar to mine (cept i also run gerrard's verdict), and often the descendant is a 3/5 life gainer

abyssal persecutor i found works nice in this sort of build
heres a link to the thread i had up here: http://forums.mtgsalvation.com/showthread.php?t=227627
i've made some changes to the list since, upping the contamination count to 4
i like some of your ideas as well, such as zombie infestation
and this is the latest list:
4 mishra's factory
2 bojuka bog
1 phyrexian tower
2 abyssal persecutor
3 nether spirit
4 contamination
4 duress
4 hymn to tourach
2 damnation
2 ratchet bomb
4 innocent blood
2 smother
1 chainer's edict
2 cabal therapy
2 sorin markov
1 zuran orb
I want to see if i can get some help on my latest build in terms of consistency and match up tweaks.
Here is the list:
1 urborg, tomb of yawgmoth
15 swamp
4 mishra's factory
1 phyrexian tower
2 abyssal persecutor
3 nether spirit
4 contamination
2 damnation
4 hymn to tourach
2 duress
2 inquisition of kozilek
4 innocent blood
1 chainer's edict
2 nevinyrral's disk
2 cabal therapy
2 sorin markov
1 zuran orb
2 smother
4 infest
4 pithing needle
3 engineered plague
1 nevinyrral's disk
The deck works pretty straightforward; get out contamination and keep it going until persecutor hits. Persecutor can then be sacrificed to the contamination for the win.

i see her from time to time in some legacy decks i face, but the duel deck coming out coupled with her rotation i think will drop her in the 20-25 range for good
i think right now is the peak value for them and they will decline til rotation unless m11 shakes the meta up drastically (doubt it)
either way, the rares u named are good for all formats and probably wont drop much, if at all
4 graypelt refuge
4 kitchen finks
4 lone missionary
3 heroes' reunion
4 life burst
2 nourish
4 survival cache
2 fog
4 respite
3 tangle
2 harmonize
3 faith's fetters
3 moment's peace
3 test of endurance
wins with test of endurance obviously. I have found survival cache to be fantastic form of 'draw 2 cards gain 4 life' in this build, and coupled with harmonize provides good draws to make the deck run smoothly.

1: quirion ranger -- can i return land to hand if there are no tapped creatures to untap on either side of the table?
2: elvish spirit guide -- does using this for mana count as playing a green spell to activate talara's battalion?
thanks in advance
