  • posted a message on where to go for rumors after this site closes
Damn, I haven't posted here in years but at one point was pretty active in the forums. Sad to see the site go though I do not play magic anymore at all as it just got out of hand price wise.

  • posted a message on So, Pelakka Wurm is a rare...
I love how upset people get over this, when pelakka wurm could have been some new crappy rare that isn't even good in limited that would also be a bulk rare, just like pelakka wurm. People in here seem to think that this is some horrible mistake that is going to ruin the game and have dire consequences like the reserved list. A rarity upshift for a limited bomb happened, big deal. Cracking packs for value has never been worth it anyways unless you get lucky.

Well yeah. Two words, reserved list. Nothing to be done about it unless they print stuff that is better then stuff on the list or equal in power, though they can't really make dual lands equal in power to the originals without breaking the functional reprint clause on the list. Not to mention it wouldn't end there, you would have to take every card on the reserved list that is playable in legacy and make different versions equal in power or exceeding the powerlevel of cards on the list like tabernacle, candelabra, intuition, etc. etc. some of these would be easy like a tabernacle that sacrificed instead of destroyed or really break it by allowing it to tap for a colorless mana. Candelabra they could make an enchantment I guess, can't think of anything else or they make it cost zero instead of 1. Intuition is tricky, as making it cost 1U breaks the card in half and 1UU makes it worse. Could say search for up to 3 cards, but that's also insane as you could tutor just 1 card and the opponent is forced to give you that card making it blue demonic tutor for 2U at instant speed with the downside of revealing the card you tutored for.

Phyrexian mana breaks the color pie and allows you free acceleration at the cost of life. Should never come back.

Not surprised at probe being banned, card is busted through and through has been since release of new phyrexia. Deathrite shaman also isn't surprising.

Those are some great pieces of art, if they are nondigital pieces I hope the artist only sells them together as it would be a shame for them to end up in different places.

Some think mox amber is the second coming of the original moxen, some think it's utter garbage. There are a lot of legendaries in this set so I'm inclined to think they playtested it heavily and thought it fair enough to print or well worth putting in to sell packs.

  • posted a message on Can someone clarify the Reserved List for me?
It doesn't really matter why the list was made at this point, all that matters is NO card on it is getting reprinted, ever. I'd stake my life on that claim.

No way can they print this, the powerlevel is obscene. Slap it in anything white because control doesn't mind a card that trades and becomes a 4/4 flier and aggro doesn't care if it trades and becomes a 4/4 flier. Makes no sense.

I like the original art a lot on doomsday, but this art...holy ***** this art. Cracking it out of a pack won't feel good because it's not worth anything, but foils will be hot.

No, it isn't. In storm sure, in other decks it can't be misdirected to a nonblue/nonred permanent if there is, for example, a lone JTMS on the board.

Should have just banned counterbalance if they wanted to hit miracles but leave the rest of the decks alone that were using top namely non blue decks like nic fit and such. I think they needed to ban some piece of miracles though, as it was clearly the best deck for a long, long time hands down. Every non miracles deck seemed to run abrupt decay purely to answer the softlock, whereas now it's not clear if you want to run decay over more efficient removal options that can answer deathrite shaman on the draw. Deathrite is now the premier 1 drop in legacy by the way, not delver. Though they'll likely be used together a lot deathrite has great power for a 1 drop.

Could spawn a new fringe storm variant, but I'm skeptical of it in comparison to the usual suspects (ad nauseam, past in flames.) The card I thought of with this is Ill-gotten gains, which discards your hand when it resolves but I don't see how this helps all that much. I think the real use for shadow of the grave will be in fluctuator based combo decks since resolving it after cycling a bunch is likely to win you the game on the spot or at least draw you a ton of cards, but it remains to be seen whether fluctuator combo will be a contender.

I, for one, would love to see them update the card back. You could still use cards with older backs in formats that would have older and newer cards mixed together, but it could be enforced that sufficiently dense sleeves are used. It's already expected with double faced cards, for instance.

I know this would sound extreme to many people, but so did double-faced cards.

No. Double faced cards have a way to make them legal in any kind of sleeve with checklist cards. The new idea you're proposing has no way of making cards legal in sleeves that are even slightly see through with cards with the different card back. Cheating is already a big enough issue, this just makes it worse. TCG's should NEVER change their card back, period.
