Land Destruction is the single least fun strategy to play against. If you're running Dark Ritual in your deck, you can start destroying my land on turn 1. Permission based control decks you can play around. It may be frustrating, but you still have options. A good Land Destruction deck, however, makes it impossible to play spells for the entire game.
Got bored and tried my hand at something simple. I'm angry I couldn't keep the lightning bolts longer but there are random tiny tree branches throughout the art that get in the way and I couldn't find a matching color balance to the lightning (using colored pencil for detail). So now that m card altercation cherry is popped...
This is one of those "know a guy who knows a guy" kind of thing, but if I were to buy an SP Wrath of God from Summer 1994, how much would that be worth
For Black? I don't know what you guys are smoking, but Sadistic Sacrament is a big steamy pile a lot of the time. Null can at least beat and (albeit VERY occasionally) block.
I wasn't saying anything about playing Selkie or Thrasher over Sovereign. The best option is probably gonna be Sovereign + Thrasher.
Not for reach, for protection. Mostly as a green alternative to Absolute Law. Bolt my lord? Vines in response.
Hm, seems acceptable. But the deck is pretty packed. If you can find room for it then try it out. my U/w version is currently running 3 StP because I can't find room for a 4th
I was going to argue for Selkie over Thrasher but upon further consideration, Thrasher just barely edges out Selkie for the spot. It's a shame, I think Selkie could be amazing in this deck.
Although Sovereign beats them both.
it has SYNERGY in a TRIBAL deck, which neither of the other two "maybe" Merfolk have. That extra point of toughness really makes a difference when you're staring down Engineered Plague, which kills your conditional counterspells (Catcher) and your cantripping beatsticks (Silvergill). If you don't have a lord and you would draw one of those three (Selkie, Thrasher, Sovereign), two of them would be quite literally dead draws.
Now while I know Plague has been nudged out of most top-tier decks, the Plague conversation is still much more relevant than anything Thrasher will do without Trample or Unblockability 2/3 of the time. Oh wait, Sovereign grants unblockability. Good stuff, that little fishie.
And for Vines, probably not. We don't really need to reach in this deck at all.
Dark Confidant, as the "best" black creature in the format, might be worth inclusion. I would consider River of Tears too, because it is one of the best mana fixers under a Choke.
That's pretty pimp. Never heard of the combo, but I like it
It's really not though...
I like to have my mana open for casting things more reliable like Lords instead of wasting it on some bum combo that will happen once for every nine times that Minamo gets wasted, losing you a turn of land drops.
Atm I run them in the side and one tundra in the main. Having green is kinda handy because I really like Krosan Grip from side too, especially with a bit of affinity in the meta. However, I figure if i cut blue, I can always run Hurkyl's Recalls..
Recall>Grip vs. affinity, but not so much vs. key MU's like Landstill. 3 colors, no matter how lightly splashed, seems a little extreme. Let us know how it goes.
Tap island for U.
Use Minamo's ability targetting Minamo.
On resolution, Minamo is tapped and because of that, it will untap.
Repeat for every island you have basically giving you:
1X, Wake Trasher gets +X/+X untill EOT.
Use only U to pay X.
So you're running a 1-of card that has synergy with a 2-of in your deck?
The next question being, why Wake Thrasher?
I'd honestly rather run Kira than him. He has no synergy with the rest of the little blue fishy friends, something that, last I heard, tribal decks are usually looking for.
@Tarmogoyf in Merfolk: NO.
Not only are Tundras cheaper than Tropicals, but white opens you up to Sygg, River Guide, Disenchant, and most importantly, Swords to Plowshares
Goyf isn't really an answer to Goyf, anyway. Zoo, Thresh, Goyfsligh, and Eva Green all have built-in methods of killing him, which splashing for him DOESN'T give to Merfolk, especially since most of those decks can end the Goyf wars with a Bolt or a Grim Lavamancer, whereas Swords is a universal answer against just about every creature in the format
@dropping Stifle for Shapesharer
Bad idea. In fact, Shapesharer in general is a pretty bad idea. Stifle is critical against Goblins, stuffing Lackey triggers, making their 3-drops vanilla 1/1's, their 2-drops 2/2 hasters, and their 5-drops a 2/2 that costs 2 mana to throw at something, and for stopping the trigger on Goblin Piledriver, and considering that Goblins are one of our not-so-good matchups...
Stifle is also a star against Ichorid decks, countering the ETB (I feel really wrong using ETB instead of CIP) on Flame-Kin Zealots, giving you an extra turn to come up with an answer.
Actually, my name is usually pastorofmuppets on forums, but some jerk decided to take the name before I got here. A little while back- well, a long while back, lol. I can't find the guy now though, wierd. But whatever. If you see pastorofmuppets anywhere else, it's probably me.
I'm a big fan of Legacy, as it's a format that's very open for change and innovation, even if most people don't realize it.
lets say i'm playing a vintage phyrexian deck, if i had vedalken orrery out and i played 2 phyrexian dreadnoughts (12/12 trample costs 1) turn 5(sacrifice one for the other; since their activation is an instant on the stack [orrery] that should work, no?) and turn 6 i attacked and played treaceherous link on a 2/2 blocker, would my opponent take 22 damage?
(my logic: trample deals the extra damage to my opponent, so first that 12 needs to be dealt to the blocker. 10 damage would go through. but i play link on that blocker and so my oponent take the 12 damage daelt to their 2/2, plus the extra 10 that went through from trample.)

You're a always so worried about Choke.

Best move. Or run U/w for StP.
