Isn't that not so unfair? i mean, he's playing a 10 mana creature and a 7 mana spell, in 2 colors with no ramp. If someone gets that out, he deserves to win. It's not a turn 3-5 infinite combo...

Oh no he won. He completely won. Good for him. We only have time for one EDH game a night, however. He is free to browse the net, sort cards or have a smoke break. We want to play for 2nd. 3rd. Etc...

And those colors hardly have "no ramp". Sol Ring, Gilded Lotus, Sisay's Ring, Thran Dynamo, Coalition Relic, Caged Sun, Gauntlet of Power, Gauntlet of Might, Extraplanar Lens, Everflowing Chalice, Mana Vault, Mana Crypt...the list goes on.

Not to mention: she can be cheated out with Sneak Attack, Surprise Deployment (requires Sundial of the Infinite or blink-shenanigans to stay out) or other cards.

The combo works best in three colors, however. Using Kaalia of the Vast. You can get her out turn 5 and then play Armageddon on turn 6 easily. Without any ramp. Just your general, her and one of your 8 mass LD spells.

Also then you'd be playing black. Which has more ramp. And tutors.

Calling it right now: Kaalia of the Vast LD. Its gonna be good.

Well you can't do that when she's your general, which means the odds of you drawing both of those cards is not that reliable. Armageddon is pretty much the only problem there.

Nev Disk. Magus of the Disk. Serenity. Reusable.

Also: Akroma's Vengeance, Ravages of War, Catastrophe, Planar Cleansing and Soulscour will win you most games.

    Fun combo too: Pure Reflection.

Any massdestruction spell is going to feel stupitly overpowered with her on the table. People will just walk away angry when you cast that devastation..

    Completely agreed.

That being said, we stopped walking away angry. Instead we look at the player who casts it until they walk away. We say "Congratulations. You've won. Now please leave so we can continue playing our game."

This card is going to warp EDH so much. Armageddon is freakin' insane with this out. I'm going to hate playing against it so much.

As for the haters: we know ONE card from this set. Since when does one card make a card good or bad? There's an entire 300+ card set and five more sets being released before she rotates out of standard. We have no idea what the meta will shape up to be.

And whoever expected a 5-6 mana 6/6 with a come into play or leave the battlefield ability and/or life link...c'mon its a legendary angel who can completely change an entire plane.

Step 1: Wizards releases the cards at gold bordered for a cube set.
Step 2: The EDH Council officially make gold bordered cards legal.
Step 3: The idea that gold bordered card are legal in casual formats becomes a standard.
Step 4: Wizards, despite the protests of dealers and hasbro, decides to not completely discourage the idea for non-competitive play.

Seriously: I get people who grimmace and scoop when I play proxies in EDH...less and less every year and they usually put up with it when I point out I have 7 different EDH decks and own (almost) all the cards in them...somewhere.

If I remember correctly, the Reserved List is all rares, no?

Rares and Uncommon 1 (which are now considered rares in the gatherer; they are effectively uncommons 1/2 or 1/3 as "rare" as the others from Homelands/The Dark/Arabian Knights/Alliances/Antiquities in which there were no actual "only one per pack" rares).

Well if FTV: Realms tells us anything, it going to have an amazing land in it.

Kinda weird that Realms didn't come out before Zendikar. But I guess Zendikar block did have a banned card...so maybe FTV: Exiled was appropriate...

Too bad they didn't save Angels v. Demons for this set.

Or...you know...for after Baneslayer and Halo Hunter...

So no Griffin Canyon then. This is an outrage.

At least that lulzy artist credit will stay intact.

The problem with zombies is that it isn't likely for us to see zombie planeswalkers, and now the marketing strategy is on planeswalkers. It's not a tribe that will die, it's very flavorful in so many ways (even when they are crazy experiments made by wizards, vide Innistrad), but I don't think that they will kill a tribe to set another. I do believe that black needs more tribes indeed, and vampires are a great start, but I expect more zombies thru the years.

    Except, you know, Liches.

That being said, I prefer zombies over vampires for the simple reason that your supposed to control your creature. Having an army of vampires seems pretty cool...but overall I'd prefer to see them stick to midrange (stronger than zombies; weaker than demons). Swarming with vampires is just silly and that's what tribal decks usually want to do. Furthermore, lifelink on vampires is just silly. I'm gaining life because my vampire is drinking blood? Vampirism (i.e. +1/+1 counters when it kill stuff) is just as dumb. The 10 or less life thing was interesting but not really explored too much...and controlling other creatures is such a blue effect.

    Mirage II would be sweet.

But instead of seeing the end of the war we got Weatherlight.

Our local shop is called "The Realm". We were all pretty excited to hear this, just for that.

Why this wasn't the set before Zendikar is beyond me.

I guess they somehow knew Jace was going to be banned.

I still prefer L5R's full arts to Magic or Pokemons. A large part because L5R knows its customers hate foil cards (they had them for a while but stopped them due to demand). And because they are given out if you collect enough tokens in your booster packs and mail them in (the 16th card isn't worthless T_T).

    Then I saw Mutavault.
    SIX HUNDRED DOLLARS?!?
Why on Earth is that worth so much?!
I mean, I know Mutavault's a *great* card, but that's just utterly mindblowing.
Did they only print like 5 or something?

They were for a 2-Headed Giant tournament in the UK that was cancelled.

They were given out at a few smaller events in the US and that was it.

I was fortunate enough to run one of them: Wizards randomly donated them (and some other swag) to us at Anime Expo 2009 for our relatively small (32 people?) free standard tournament. All in all, the prize pool was really insane given there was no separate entry fee (beyond the convention badge). I think first got like 8 packs, a DVD box set, a T-shirt and the promo.

While I'd prefer the Bother's War, we won't get it. It'll be about Dack Fayden or Chandra or Jace or some other markettable character. Its just too hard to market pre-revisionist stuff to new players. What are they gonna do when they get involved in the card game? Play Legacy so they can see lines/art depicting their favorite chracters?

If it involved the card game at all: it has to be like Chihayafuru or Hikaru no Go: Focus on the character development, interaction between characters and make a really solid script with almost no focus on the games themselves.

    Quote from JinxedIdol
The world is rich with mythology which can inspire Magic sets. Egyptian Mythology is indeed deep enough to inspire an entire world. Much like snow, I do hope "sand" becomes a unique type of Magic in that world. I dont mean there will be "sand" mana, but the flavor of Sand being magical would be nice, like how Kamigawa red mages burn with ice or Esper Mages has Etherium.

    Desert IS a land type.

And I'd rather just see desert-typed painland at uncommon rarity. Maybe even fetchable painland (think Ravnica duals that do one each time they are tapped but have the Desert type).

lol, they should make a block where each color is associated with one of Earth's cultures, and the 5 are:

    Medieval
    Meso-American

Medieval has been done to death. Meso-American was done in Naya to some extent.

Guys, Egypt =! Arabia. This misconception is starting to seriously bother me. It's like saying that Kamigawa is a holler back to Portal: Three Kingdoms, i.e. They're not related, period.

Except Arabian Nights, the block, wasn't entirely Arabic. Pyramids is the most obvious nod to egypt in the block.

Besides, Arabian Nights is not Arabic and the Egyptian Block won't be Egyptian. They are fantasy worlds based on tropes in those cultural genres. Egypt and Arabian fantasy genres tend to share things. If Wizards made a Roman block, I'd cure they'd have Cartyaids and some other Greek elements in it. And having some Arabian and even Hebrew themes in Arabian Nights and Mirage wasn't distracting.
