Yes you can return bob.
The call can't go on the stack until Hymn has fully resolved, at which time bob is in your yard.
I know the Call wouldn't hit the stack until after Hymn resolves, I just thought you had to choose the target as you announce the spell, and I wasnt sure if "Bob" was there yet or not.
I have two cards in hand, a Dark Confidant and Call to the Netherworld. My opponent plays Hymn to Tourach, making me discard both at once. Does timing provide me with the opporunity to return the creature I am discarding to my hand via the Madness cost of Call to the Netherworld?
What about Akroma's Vengeance? It has no synergy whatsoever with the deck, but its a great fetch target i suppose
You must mean Akroma's Memorial which is cute and powerful but not really necessary.
Here is the current build with some tweaks.
I have changed the creature base as well as replaced Ancestral Vision with Thirst for Knowledge as now I am running a full set of Goryo's Vengeance and have added Sharuum the Hegemon as a pitch/reanimate target giving me extra ways to get Lattice into play.
I used Leyline in SB to slow down Elves and Unsummon to thwart a turn one Deus of Calamity from A-I Red. Heap Doll against any decks using graveyard and Stifle is just awesome all around.
Give it a try it's a fun deck. And wins quite a lot.
Not entirely sure, but what about more stuff like the myrs? Coldsteel heart, Signets, Tailsmans, etc. They all allow you to accelerate into t3 dagson, and then sac fodder. Speeds you up a bit faster then say steel wall. What bout scourglass in a pinch? Anti synergy with lattice though. What about Akroma's Vengeance? It has no synergy whatsoever with the deck, but its a great fetch target i suppose
Artifact mana sources are ok, but they can't be targetted by Arcum which is why I chose the Myr and Sad Robot, for both purposes. Steel Wall I originally used to protect from early aggro attacks but now I realize that if I am going to bounce and deny once get the Lattice out, losing half my life in the process isn't really relevent.
EDIT: For the reason stated above I am testing Ornithopter in place of Steel Wall. One mana cheaper and can chump block in a pinch just as easily (and can block flyers). This deck is rapidly becoming half Affinity lol.
I know as most do that if you are required to draw from an empty library you lose the game. Is the same true if you are instructed to put a card from your library into your graveyard and there are no cards in your library?
I was thinking of maindecking some Stifle too. It almost always has a use.
How to combat an onslaught of elves? Would Infest be good here?
All-in Red is fiendish... I wish Teferi's Response was still legal to deal with that Deus of Calamity.
I am gonna playtest various top decks and see if I can make it as competetive as possible. I doubt it will ever be Tier 1 but it might be fun to bring to a FNM.
So you see, you plop down an early Myr or Steel Wall, then follow with Arcum Daggson, who turns it into a MycoSynth lattice, thus alowing you to bounce the opponent's entire board with Hurkyl's Recall. You then follow with Tatsumasa for the kill, and keep their board empty with Mana Leaks and more Recalls (ideally on a Scepter) while you beat face with Legendary Sword Dragon. Recurring the Mindlaver is also possible with Academy Ruins.
In the event that Arcum is countered/killed, Goryo's Vengeance is the MVP.
I've got some fun but not really necessary cards in there like Darksteel Forge and Panoptic Mirror. So I can probably replace them to make the deck more potent but I'm not sure what to put in there.
The four maindeck Hurkyls already make sure you have game against Affinity, but not sure what else to prepare for.
I made a far better version of the Blazing Shoal deck and it looks something like this. Turn one kills are pretty common, and turn two kills are probable if you get the right cards in your opening hand.
Gameplan:
As soon as you have Shoal, Fury and a little hasty dude, drop him, pump with Shoal for +10 power, then remove two red cards in your hand to play Fury and attack again. It's pretty simple.
Give it a try.
The evasive properties of Sparky and the like are better than the crap I was trying to kill with in my other deck. And Summoner's Pact gets Uktabi Drake (or Reaper King to remove to Shoal or Fury) if you need to go all-in that turn.
I am new here and this is my first post. I was looking for a place to share the extended deck I came up with today.
It basically is just designed to kill on turn two or three hopefully using Birds of Paradise. Before you laugh let me explain.
It is kind of inconsistent and required a bit of luck, but you want to drop either a Birds of Paradise or Llanowar Elves on your first turn.
On your second turn you use Blazing Shoal on your creature pitching a big 10 CMC dude then follow with a Rite of Consumption for the win. Soul's Fire will also work in a pinch but requires one more mana so I included Rite of Flame and Chrome Mox for the acceleration.
The whole plan revolved around Blazing Shoal so I thought I might add Serum Powders for a better chance of starting with it.
You want the following in your opening hand: One creature that costs one green mana, a Blazing Shoal. A Reaper King, Myojin, or Summoner's Pact (to get Reaper King), and either Soul's Fire or Rite of Consumption.
Sideboard considerations include maybe some removal for any deck that drops a dork on turn one that can block me, Nourishing Shoal against burn, and possibly Pact of Negation to prevent the plan from being countered by someone who leaves two mana open.

That's exactly what I wanted to hear. many thanks.

Please try this out and tell me what you think.
Thanks!
