Put in Chalice, countersquall instead of rune snag, river of tears, sunken ruins, muddle, beseech, expedition map... I don't like ponder and sign in blood here.
I think this deck has 2 paths: one that is just going for the combo and packing everything to counter the hate against it, and the other would be the same but with some sort of other win condition in case our combo gets disrupted.
That other win condition could be the thopter combo, but I've tested it and it doesn't work very well. Another win condition could be something that works well with the hexmage, but there's nothing. So we are left with some control creature. That creature should be resilient to removal or easily fetchable by our tutors. But I haven't found any with those characteristics. Tombstalker seems good but even if it will cost you 2 mana, he's not tutorable by muddle and not even by beseech.
I just rewatched the game where Da Rosa was up 2-1 and lost it because of an Ikeda path topdeck. Frustrating.
Anyways, I think this deck needs mana leak main deck.
Anyway... I was wondering other peoples thoughts on venser, I'm wondering if he is still good enough... I mean, he is good in the hypergenesis matchup, but that's on technicality...
Ignoring valid arguments is noooo good.
Nope, in my opinion, extended decks will now have to pass the punishing fire test, aka, don't include many creatures in your deck with thoughness < 3.
Of course I may be wrong ^^.
I was wondering if putting 4x sword of the meek, 4x thopter foundry and 1x academy ruins to totally change the combo in game 2 against aggro would be any good, because they will go with 0 artifact hate on that game.
I think this deck was a 1 hit wonder just like elves in berlin and will soon be hated out and dealt with.
If people need hate against a deck, that means the deck is good. This deck made top8 on a PT against decks packed with hate against it (kotr + ghost quarter).
Anyways, I've been testing the deck way before pt-austin, and I've been using expedition maps instead of tolaria wests.
That coupled with more counterspells lets me play more controlish than comboish. Tolaria's transmute cost has the same CMC as muddle's and beseech. You can't search for the X cost artifacts or slaughter pact but it has a way easier mana cost, so it's hard to tell which one is better.
Things I didn't like about da Rosa's deck:
-Bob has no place here imo.
-Repeals: it's ok but not very very useful. I prefer to include 1 copy ofechoing truth, which is tutorable by muddle the mixture, and takes care of all the spectral procession or bitterblossom tokens at once (and if you have your chalice at 1 you can't play them, same with gaddok).
-Moxes: May be good vs blood moon but I don't like them in this deck.
-Cliques: too high mana cost. I'd replace them with duresses (3duress+3thoughtseize).
-Tormod's crypt (sideboard): maybe replace them with shred memorys.
-Should add 1 copy of grim discovery maindeck just like zachary halls' deck has. If the opponent manages to kill your marit lage and you draw a muddle or a beseech, you're set.
