Have you seen the large-size art? It's not my cup of tea, but it's not bad. Worst thing I can find in it is the malformed left hand of that second vampire. I really like the street in the background, but I can't tell where it fits in the setting, since the vampires supposedly live in the mountain mansions instead of in Nephalia's cities or Thraben.
Yes I have and that doesn't do it much better justice since it enhances a lot of what is wrong. Like you said the guy in the back is absolutely horrible and why are there two vampires in the picture that add up to a 2/2 creature? Stuff like that.
I think the art is horrible for many different reasons, but the card is strong. I remember when lords were rare and their effect was over when they died. This guy, not so much. So for all the whining about power creep being scaled back this guy is a lord whose power is scaled up.
I do agree Nevik, and you have tried patiently to explain to some of us where you are coming from. However, to someone skimming the thread, it's easy to see confusion that someone with a skull avatar who's playing a game full of scary images and violence would SEEM to find a shirtless man at contention.
You've explained yourself to me and others, but to someone just skimming, it's hard to pick up on that.
I may disagree... but I respect your right to feel that way.
Thank you and I know I said I was finished but your post made me want to say one more thing.
I usually buy a box (or 2) of every set along with a fat pack and then the singles I want/need. I have skipped much of Scars block because of the violent/graphic nature of the Phyrexians and while this 1 card won't make me avoid the set with my son (the horror theme may do that) if the trend of sexuality in cards continue I may find myself skipping more and more sets and boxes to purchase.
Fair enough luminum can. I've stated my opinion. I think the art sucks. I'm getting tired of the sexual connotation to a lot of the artwork in Magic (women included! SHOCKER!)
And one more thing, I like how if I disagree with you (random you not anyone in general) then I am wrong/backwards/whathaveyou, but if you disagree with me YOUR right. Seems kind of odd.
Well, since you don't seem to want to answer what age these children are and what you think the effects will be or the fact there is some pretty crazy art since alpha, there wasn't much to read to be honest.
I'm honestly curious about this.
It really isn't anyone's business what age my children are. They are not 13 though if that is what your trying to get at.
And while yes there are some crazy art pieces since alpha they are nowhere near the level or amount of them recently. If you can't agree with that then we have nothing further to discuss.
I don't have to repeat myself when I've stated my opinion already. I don't have time to sit around and repeat myself to every Tom, Dick, and Harry that disagrees with me. And I must say that your post was a bastion of enlightenment as well. Thank you.
That anyone would suggest that this picture is a bad influence upon children for showing a man's chest in a corset while ignoring the scores of hypersexualized women in magic--as well as the many other men who show chest, but look manly enough to get away with it apparently--is most definitely homophobic.
The game is intended for an audience mature enough to handle the subject matter (13+), though I have to say based upon this thread we have further proof that age and maturity do not go hand in hand.
Also the idea that straight guys have to be enthusiastic about this art is silly....no one is asking that you glorify this art like you do the pinup ladies of magic. Just let the ladies and the gays enjoy this one without you having to score bro points by putting in your unwanted feedback.
Thanks.
I'm going to assume you were replying to me since I brought up my children and you referenced that. My response is learn to read. I have stated many times I also don't agree with the hyper sexual pictures regarding half naked angels as well, but thanks for playing. I'm glad to that you can infer that I'm homophobic from that as well.
I find it a little odd that all the cards depicting worship of demons, murder, and torture have had a smaller backlash than this.
I find it odd that a fantasy game decides to have any sort of sexual depiction in the game whether it be this card in question or any of the hundreds of angels or whatnot. I would be perfectly happy if they keep the sex stuff out and let me handle the demons torturing and murdering.
Again, make believe and fantasy is one thing. Sex and sexualization is another.
Yeah I certainly don't want to get into people parenting... but I certainly think a shirtless dude in a half corset (which is more common than people want to give credit for) is the wrong fight to pick when we have cards that are so gruesome or bizarre that they could make a creative child have some seriously sick ideas without realizing.
While I definitely agree with some of the "disturbing" artwork not being suited for small children as well (do I really need to throw a fit in every thread I disagree with the artwork to make some of you happy?), there is a large difference between "gross or disturbing" and sexual. Big difference.
I disagree. If you can keep violence and sex away from your kids with TV and movies, then the thousands of video games and board games with violence and sex in them shouldn't be an issue at all.
See there are these things called Magic boosters that people like to open. And guess what, the cards are randomly inserted into said boosters. And guess what, my child likes to open said boosters. And I actually like for him to open boosters it is something fun we do together. But guess what else when said boosters randomly contain half naked angels and half dressed sexualized homo vampires to say the least it is kind of hard to "control" that.
Maybe I am uptight, but I do care about this game just like I care about my children. Maybe this game isn't the best thing for my son and I to do together which is a shame because I won't have much use for buying new product.
Too late, we already have Ranks of the Endless Dead or whatever its called as a wallpaper.
I've been playing since Legends and Revised and the lords were pretty much rare all the way up till Lorwyn.
This part makes me laugh a little inside.
