yea the coolest thing i've done with kari Zev's expertise is steal a wurmcoil and then go off. (you get the death triggers) @ an fnm
but i felt like it was really the blood moon and riders that got me there most of the time.
alot of the time, i've land locked them and start hitting them with riders and simian guides. Also it's got a really good matchup against control decks, as you run your land death crap into their counters then go off.

With the ad nau matchup, i felt that he got really lucky, it's a really variable matchup because i've won against it by mooning them alot.
In the first game he got everything. i killed a land, also tried to beast within his lotus on upkeep, (he got 2 lands left) he shows me SSG, angels' grace and ad nau.
in the second i moon him turn 3. he rips a plains and plays that sunburst artifact thing to get out of it.
Later when i spoke to him he told me he's only got that 1 basic so not sure if it's bad matchup or just bad luck.

I'm ok to lose to burn, i figured he was on burn with his red sleeves, so i tried to mull more aggressively didn't pay off, he plays gobo and then i scoop.
personally i think leyline of sanctity is way better for the burn mu but i thought in a wider meta, pulse of murasa is kinda better vs gy strategies. (like goryo breach or dredge) can recycle your faeries or target their creature.

    Congrats on your finish!
I'm glad you had success with Blood Moon, I've been advocating for it in the maindeck for a long time (It has more impact game 1, then you play the psychological game in 2 and 3).

The Ad Nauseam matchup is not that bad, but they can go off in the spot while Living End needs at least 1 extra turn to swing. He got lucky in the second game, though.

Regarding the Burn and Leyline discussion:
LE is not weak against discard, and I wouldn't consider Leyline in the Death's Shadow matchup. If I only had 3 slots I would rather run 3 Kor Firewalker for Burn instead of Leyline (but it's ultra narrow). In an open metagame I prefer the Madcap+Emperion package

I could run Domri Rade, but against Control I would rather be casting Blood Moon or Choke

Infect players will not run Street Wraith. If they do, I will shave my eyebrows with a foil copy.

    Hey guys.

So im pretty new to Living End and have a question about the fetchlands (I usually play UW so im a bit of a noob with a 3 color manabase)
why do some lists run 4 bloodstained mire and some 4 verdant catacombs?

I really want to build this deck in paper, but the catacombs are crazy expensive so, can a manabase with 4 mires also work?
and if so, how would you put in together?

    thanks

Look up for previous posts in this thread for a detailed response, but basically Verdants are better because they get you basics against Blood Moon, and Dryad Arbor if you are running it. You can still play it with Bloodstained Mires, 3 Shocklands, 2-3 basics, 7-8 Fastlands and a few more lands (depending of your SSG count). Also, this article can help you build manabases, just define clearly your mana requirements for each turn.

Well, the red one is better than the others for living end players I think.
    http://www.mtgsalvation.com/cards/aether-revolt/28209-kari-zevs-expertise

Won't cast anything but living end though since it's 2 cmc or less

The ability is not the worst thing in the world even if you do not have a LE in hand, since it is real possible they have some high value target like an eldrazi or something you can yoink for benefit. I think this card COULD be a 1 of in a list as a way to purge a LE out of your hand, perhaps as a sideboard option for control matches. It being mono red is nice too as it allows you to cast from under a blood moon.

It's almost like they knew we were desperate for a good card out of this cycle, and decided to make it "cmc 2 or less" just to piss us off. lol

I was wondering that myself, they just want to taunt the cascade decks with cards like expertise and treasure keeper.....

If only there were something like jace, vryn's prodigy ability for getting double use out of a living end, that would be an improvement.

Regarding Hypergenesis, is not as good as it seems. It doesn't wrath the board like Living End... I'm not saying it should be unbanned, but it certainly isn't as dangerous as other cards. This is the Zoo vs Hypergenesis quarterfinal of the PT Austin

I don't understand how Probe is even worth discussing... Probe is not a problem card and can be utilized by any deck in the game...

    You've just identified the problem.

Probe can be used by any deck, but not every deck uses it. It's not like Mental Misstep

It doesn't have to be a counterspell. Modern is dominated by creatures doing dirty things, a edictish removal for the creature with greatest power with an alternative cost with card disadvantage or a trap-like spell (I hate traps). FoW is rarely casted for its manacost, the Modern card should be reasonably costed for its effect.

    Something like Tariff, but playable.

lost legacy can take out collected company, lily, goyf, bolts, paths,REMAND,counters, any eldrazi, ugin and karn, etc.
Sure it can't hit artifacts or lands but it's the right mana cost so you don't cascade into it.Its not just graveyard hate,it has far more uses against almost every deck.
I like it so far, more so than beast within and fulminator MB.
I also didn't like cascading into the hate rather than LE.All personal preference though.

Cascading into hate is not that good, but can be done if you remove the LE in favor of really good hate cards. (Like Stony Silence, or Kor Firewalker). I would only do it in the Burn matchup

Sure, Lost Legacy can take all these cards but LoTV, Goyf, Bolt or Path are not troubles for Living End. Collected Company can be dealed as a whole, fighting the deck (not the card) with Anger of the Gods. Eldrazi should be an easy matchup, and the deck has 8 LD spells against Tron, with SSG.

Keep it mind that against Dredge, is only GY hate if they have the right creature in the GY at the moment you cast Lost Legacy. It doesn't help when you are facing creature beatdown. One could say is good when you are in good shape, bad when you are in danger. Also, taking only 1 type of creature from Dredge is not going to be game, for sure. Again, Anger of the Gods helps here.

It has a lot of good applications, though. Can take Scapeshift, something from Ad Nauseam, Primeval Titan, or even the big spells from Tron as you mentioned (if I have LL I would SB it vs Tron, but I wouldn't run it just for that matchup).

To offset the life loss from fetches and shocks I've MB a crypt incursion and gnaw to the bone. They have really helped.
In the SB I have included lost legacy,it has been a good budget replacement for extraction and is three mana.
Beast within and fulminator mage are in SB, instead I've been going with the all in,cycle creatures as fast as I can idea to cascade big early.
Someone else posted the idea about more cycle rather than landcycle and it's been great, then I went all in and removed the mages and beasts. For the most part its faster and can suck up most damage and counterspells as well as grave hate before I can living end.IMO.
Sometimes I only get one or two creatures due to hate, and sometimes I'm forced to hardcast, but grinding out hasn't been that bad. However I've seen a ton of opponents misplays that have resulted in a win for me.
I am also testing without simians since I see a lot of builds not using them and being fine with it.

Lost Legacy is a budget replacement for what extraction? Surgical? If you want a SB card against Dredge you should play Ravenous Trap, but is not that good against the other decks

not to be a jerk, but after 4 years i'm surprised dryad arbor causes people so much confusion. we seem to answer questions about it ever few months.

At least is not that simple to notice the interaction, or the fact that DD needs a target. My buddy used my LE deck one time cascading without a target all day and he's been playing for 15 years XD

Suggesting things under cmc 3 is what I really don't understand :p

Sigh* This is why I feel the Mods should frown upon quoting mining MTG pro articles. It doesn't really add anything to the conservation here among us lesser, non-pro players and leads to quote mining whomever supports your narrative. As an example, Ryan Overturf disproves of Bloodbraid Elf but Brian Demars suggests it should be unbanned. So who do we go with here, Brain or Ryan, or perhaps we should treat their opinions like anyone else, subject to faults and biases.

In short, the "nah, nah, nahh, your opinion is wrong because a pro said otherwise" needs to be discourage.

It's like the cat with the toast in it's back all over again (?)

On a serious note, if I recall correctly BBD said in his article that someone's first 3 plays against his dredge at the GP were Surgical Extraction, Surgical Extraction, and Snapcaster Mage for Surgical Extraction (Grixis) and he still won with Golgari Grave Troll beatdown. None of the 3 targets were GGT. BBD opinion of Dredge is (at least in this case) shaped with his opponents mistakes.

  • posted a message on What Color, Converted Mana Cost & Rarity Would These Strange Cards Be
    Card 1
    Rare/Uncommon
    White
    cmc=2 or 1
    Enchantment
    Players can't scry.

    Card 2
    Rare, maybe Mythic (flavor?)
cmc around 5/6? depends on the colors
This should be at least Black, along with R and/or W
    Legendary Creature
When you cast Card 2, each player exiles their hand.
If a card would be put into a graveyard from anywhere, exile it instead.
    6/4

    Card 3
    Rare
Black, but this exiles nonland (enchantments) so it should also be at least G or W I think
cmc=4, but it could be 3 if it's tricolored (You can add R or U as the third one)

    Instant
Cast Card 3 only if you have half of your starting life total or less.
    Choose one —
    • Exile target nonland permanent.
    • Draw 3 cards.

    Card 4
    Uncommon
    White
    cmc=2
    Sorcery
Target player skips his or her next precombat main phase. Draw a card.

    Card 5
Black, and you could make it multicolor depending on the flavor
    cmc=3
    Rare
    Legendary Creature
If a spell or ability would put a +1/+1 counter on a creature, instead put a -1/-1 counter on that creature.
    3/3

    Card 6
    Blue
cmc 5 or 6? Does this give you another turn?
    Rare/Mythic
    Sorcery
After this turn, reverse the turn order.
