Keep in mind, this isn't just for Legacy. The solicitation specifically mentions support for Commander. Could see some reprints of stuff from the Commander sets, like Flusterstorm and Unexpectedly Absent
The answer is that WOTC must print high quality proxies of the high dollar staples. If they don't, this will happen with more and more frequency, until Paper MTG is no longer a viable product.
I was able to get one complete set of 5 at my LGS, for a slight discount off MSRP. I had another set of five on order from an internet vendor, for MSRP with free shipping, and no sales tax. They were holding my order until the second wave. After living with the decks for a week, I've decided I don't need a second set, and have cancelled my other order. There's just not anything in these that stands out and makes me want multiple copies. I might buy a couple copies of several of the commanders later on after the furor has died down, but that's it. It's a good product, but it's just not all *that* compelling.
some of us have cards that would be marked in non-opaque sleeves, and penny sleeves tend to be pretty see through...
Not to side-track this, but assuming you crack open the pre-con and sleeve it in penny sleeves, it does fit in the box it comes in. That's all I'm saying. Obviously if you're modding the decks, then you'll have to come up with something else, if your cards are worn.
But c'mon, the box is a damn sight better than the stupid little folder boxes that come in fat packs and duel decks.
Except it doesn't, not the way they designed it. I tried putting a sleeved deck into the box as they made it and the deck poked out the top a good centimeter. The only way to get things to fit is to remove the internals of the box and then lay the cards down at an angle. And even then, it doesn't quite close like it should.
It entirely depends on which type of sleeves you're talking about. I'm referring to penny sleeves. I don't use thicker sleeves on 100-card decks anyway.
ETA: Volrath's Stronghold is reserved.
Anyway, I think I better sell the TNNs right away, to defray my costs.
If these are truly not limited, and will see multiple printings, I'm not too worried about other people getting what they want.
