Bans do not take effect immediately, if I am not mistaken. My source is the most recent ban in Block Constructed (Intangible Virtue and Lingering Souls...Banned 3/20, took effect 4/2).

Unless it is an Emergency ban, like Memory Jar, a preemptive ban like Mind's Desire...

Also, I am quite sure no bannings are coming here....Maybe Ponder in Standard...

Hilarious how?

Also, I'd like to welcome my good friend apaulogy to the SnapCast team!

Glad I can take part.

I have been podcasting about Politics for a while now and have been looking for an opportunity to do one about MTG.

BTW- Half-Price Modern PE this Saturday, June 9th @ 9AM PST on MTGO.

5 tix for a PE payout Payout Structure here

I have been brewing a bunch in the past week. Well, maybe tweaking is a more correct term for it...

you are all right.. I have already acquired a singleton thrun, so all i have to do now is insert him wherever he fits to be, MD or SB..

Thrun could be an impenetrable wall against almost all types of decks.. He gives them nightmares once he hits the table.. The only answer to him is something like wrath of god and edict effects..

Has anyone experimented on substituting putrefy from terminate? How do you compare both of them?

I have and the one mana makes a huge difference more often than not.

Sure, you might be able to kill a Plating or an Isochron Scepter that was causing problems occasionally on their turn, but, for the most part, Maelstrom Pulse does Puterfy's job better albeit a sorcery. I am not saying it is horrible, but you will find the situation when this post will ring in your head when your opponent has cleared your board, has a blocker with junk in the trunk, and is at 3 life, while you have 5 mana, a Treetop Village and a Putrefy #FROWNTOWN

Terminate can be replaced with other generic creature removal spells, such as Go for the Throat or Smother. But having the option to kill stuff for 2 is pretty important IMO because, besides Bolt, it is one of the only things we have to interact with their turn. I also

I have been toying with a few SB slots for Pillar of Flame. I have seen Strangleroot Geist creeping his way into some decks, and Finks/Redcaps are already annoying. The fact that it can go to the dome is also gravy.

I personally think Thrun, the Last Troll should have at least one slot in the SB. I love him in the Jund mirror and against Zoo. The hexproof causes alot of problems and the regen is just nuts. The fact that he cant be countered is just like icing on an already golden cake.

Yeah, Thrun is a good man. I have seen him singlehandedly tear apart quite a few decks over the weekend.

premising that i still disagree nacatl's ban, and that i find both very similar,i don't find delver of secrets ban worthy, for three reason:

1) it seems to me that the +1 of toughness of nacatl is more important of delver's flying

2) the biggest reason: nacatl is 3/3 always, in the right deck; delver, sometimes flips sometimes no ( or better, for the murphy's law, when you opponents plays delver it flip immediatly, when it's your turn you have to wait 5 turns).

3) delver asks for a certain type of deck, with a large amount of istants. instead you can throw nacatl everywhere there is a naya colur combination

in conclusion, there is some reason to ban nacatl and not delver; but for me must simply be both unbanned

:applause:

Good post

agree with the extra point of toughness mattering too.
agree with unban.

thank you sir for fixing the mana base.. I have tested it and its already ok. Great suggestion indeed! Thanks. I'll invest these once i've set my budget.. I'll get the lands and fetches first then next is confidant. I'll invest goyf in the last because of its scarcity and cost. Thanks a lot!

I have a thrun, the last troll, set of abyssal persecutor and a grave titan here, is there any room for them in the main deck?

Btw, since i have no budget for goyf yet, can i insert some grim lavamancer MD? Or even anathemancer? Thoughts? Thanks in advance.

Just don't lose to Blood Moon

Well, I already said there is no replacement for Goyf. As long as you understand that, I would say Lavamancer is a good man. Affinity can be a weak match up g1...Lavamancer helps so much and does a lot of work. Anathemancer is a SB card at best.

I think that Delver's consistency is why it stays unbanned. Delver does lend itself to blue mana decks obv, so it is harder to kill when it DOES flip. One can setup Delver with Serum Visions, but if there are not any instants or sorceries that you see then it is another blind try. Also to consistently flip it, it restricts your deck building into needing 20-22 instants and sorceries in order to keep him consistently flipping.

Delver is a great dude. My point is that he restricts your deck building somewhat and is still pretty swingy.

Nacatl in this format is really consistently a turn 1 3/3 though. Fetch + shocks are real drawbacks, but when you are playing a 3/3 on t1, you are really the aggressor, and your opponent HAS to deal with your aggression or just die. Life total is a very important resource in this format. Nacatl lends itself to the opposite of a delver deck, which is just having a bunch of efficient aggressive dudes and a few things to clear blockers and for reach.

Nacatl is just not as swingy as Delver, although Delver is a lot more evasive when the conditions that flip him to a 3/2 Flyer are met.

When you look at them in this light, you can see why Wizards banned Nacatl and are leaving Delver alone (for now).

You do mention that "Delver seems almost as consistent as Nacatl", and to that I disagree. I don't think it is a far margin, but still significant, that Nacatl is more consistent. The reason I come to this conclusion is that you can tutor for the condition that has to be met on t2 for Nacatl (fetch land into Forest/Plains). The best thing you can do to set up Delver for t3 (assuming it doesn't blind flip which maybe happens ~ 30% of the time) is Serum Visions. As I mentioned above, there is a possibility that you don't see an instant or sorcery and then it is blind.

Your friend brings up a good point though and this represents some of the 'ban' rumblings on Twitter and other forums right now.

Creatures:
4 Bloodbraid Elf
4 Sedraxis Specter
3 Dark Confidant
3 Tarmogoyf
3 Kitchen Finks
1 Olivia Voldaren

--is this line-up okay? I can't help it but i think i really have no room for goyf as of now, i could invest dark confidant within this year. Maybe buying a couple of goyfs, i could. But a playset? No, i think.

I don't like Olivia in this format yet. I would cut her.

Dark Confidant is also kind of necessary. I like the config here, but I would cut the 1 olivia and make her either bob or goyf.

Nice.

Also from the original land base, cut the scalding tarns and bring in the 4th catacomb...also maybe a raging ravine or 2...this is how I would build your land base

4 Verdant Catacomb
2 Misty Rainforest
3 Raging Ravine
1 Breeding Pool
1 Watery Grave
2 Overgrown Tomb
1 Stomping Ground
1 Blood Crypt
1 Steam Vents
2 Twilight Mire
1 Forest
2 Swamp
1 Creeping Tar Pit
1 Rootbound Crag
1 Drowned Catacomb
1 Dragonskull Summit
1 Woodland Cemetary

It looks like a mess and it probably is, but I would test this out. You have GG for finks, BB for Lili, plus random R and U requirements.

GB are def the most important colors, which is why you have basics of those. The original Jund list *can* be somewhat soft to Blood Moon. This is going to be worse. Catacomb and Rainforest can grab everything you need for every situation.

Also, I would not play any Jund deck without 1-2 Terminate and 2-3 Maelstrom Pulse. You need these.

GL.

that is NOT slipknot for 1. Slipknot, as ragey as he could be, is an actual adult with a deep voice and children. This kid is slight post pubescent (you can tell bty the pseudo-stache).

There a number of cards that people want off the ban list. I would say the Jace advocates are the most vocal. On these forums I have also heard: Mental Misstep, Hypergenesis, Sword of the Meek, Bitterblossom, Ancestral Vision, Chrome Mox, and Umezawa's Jitte the most.

Some say these cards are not as powerful in this format as they were in the formats they strangleheld for a period. I can not argue this point because I honestly do not know....

What I do know is that the common thread among all of these cards is that they were dominant in some fashion or another, therefore could restrict the format from the beginning from a deck building perspective. When you think about the bans in this context, they make some amount of sense whether or not you agree with them.

Hello again everyone.

It has been a while since the last time I tried and failed to make a league, so I thought, "Why not try again?"

I still have a potential sponsor for prize support. I know there are still people who PM me and ask to join the clan. I also still have the guildportal website that needs a little cleaning up.

However, there is a distinct lack of play testing that I get to do during the week, and I figured that we could do that testing together and with prize support.

In addition, I want to cultivate a clan that can start taking down DEs, PEs, and Blippy's Tournaments. I want us to DOMINATE MODERN....

Okokokokok...maybe 'dominate' is a strong assertion, but you get what I mean.

THIS TIME AROUND THERE ARE REQUIREMENTS:

If you want to join the clan you have to:

Communicate well
Be able to work on a fixed schedule
Be a night owl or based on the West Coast US (PST)(sorry, this is where I live)
Be willing to volunteer a little (recording videos, administering tournaments with DCI-r).

Still interested? Cool. instead of making a huge thread of people who want to join, I am just going to ask that you PM me here or email me at apaulogy@gmail.com.

Also, if you want to you can leave me a message at my mailbox at the guildportal website

So far, I have three members (including myself)

apaulogy
phoque
jfreeman

Have a good day guys. Feel free to ask questions in the thread or any of the ways I have provided to contact me.

Deck needs Goyf. There are no replacements. He may be vanilla, but a 3/4 for 2 is the epitome of efficient.

Otherwise, I don't see why this couldn't work, other than somewhat awkward mana. Speaking of which, run 4 catacombs and 1-2 misty rainforest and some breeding pool and watery grave....the current manabase is going to make you lose more often that you want, I think.

Yeah, I'm not concerned for Modern's sake. I login around 8 am and sometimes notice the 5-6AM DE's have like 32 ppl in them. Mostly its just annoying to find a time when I can play with each event being so far apart.

Hopefully after the release events, they'll add some more times back along with a better time for the PE's.

You are SethDrone on MTGO?

If I see you on during the late time PST that I am on, I am gonna hit you up to join

Otherwise, hit me up for a test. I have a lot of decks.

It kind of pissed me off when I noticed this last night, then I realized that the 10PM-12AM PST slot that I constantly try to enter never fires anyway, so I can understand why they cut them.

But now I don't even have an opportunity to try and fail to enter...:/

and aside from like the same 5 guys and a few randoms, the 2-mans have been dead too...
