    Nykthos costs mana to set up (getting permanents in play) and can be punished by Wrath of God effects. This land is too good.

    Is there any strong feeling against making Quicksilver Micron a 0/1? it reduces combat applications pretty significantly, but I think for blue mana it is still going to be competitive in the right spots.

    Questionable haste granting seems to be in red's color pie nowadays. :p

    Hahaha, I actually had this in mind for the design. I figure if you have something that makes a token in your upkeep or something it could be relevant, but probably it's not necessary. I don't mind making his body slightly more threatening to increase the cost of sacrificing aggressively and to keep the card strong.

    Ogre Raidcaller 3 mana red mana
    Creature - Ogre Warrior
    5 mana red mana , sacrifice Ogre Raidcaller: Creatures you control get +2/+0 and gain frist strike until end of turn.
    4/2

    The set doesn't have scry, but I still like the idea of a Repel for 5 mana with some small library manipulation bonus.
    How do we feel about this - too good at common? Not as fun as the instant version?

    Temporal Surge v2 4 mana blue mana
    Sorcery {C}
    Put target creature on top of its owner's library.
    Draw a card.

    Is 6 mana getting out of hand?

    Temporal Surge v3 5 mana blue mana
    Instant {C}
    Put Target Creature on top of its owner's library.
    Draw a card.

    The thing I like about Swarmvines as it stands now is that it is a 1-drop for aggressive decks with some late game, and it scales ridiculously well with an aggressive aura or equipment. Madcap Skills, for instance. Your suggested 2 mana green mana - 2/2 version supports itself much more effectively, but doesn't allow for quite as aggressive starts, and is also more likely to become oppressive with support.

    Some incentive (hopefully) for playing that extra land in limited.

    Ogre Blood-Dancer 3 mana red mana
    Creature - Ogre Shaman {U}
    5 mana red mana , sacrifice Ogre Blood-Dancer: Creatures you control get +2/+0 and gain first strike and haste until end of turn.
    3/2

    Temporal Surge 4 mana blue mana
    Instant {C}
    Put target creature on top of its owner's library. Look at the top X cards of your library, where X is that creature's power, then put one of them on top of your library and the rest on the bottom of your library in any order.

    Swarmvines green mana
    Creature - Plant {U}
    2 mana green mana : Swarmvines gets +X/+X until end of turn, where X is its power.
    1/1

    Thanks for your replies and valuable input, all.
    I agree I think that mana of any color is fine, as well as not being able to sacrifice lands that produce colorless for mana at all sounds really awful to me.

    I like the old feel from silvercut. I think maybe Fractured Mox might suit.

    Sorry about the double-post, it occurred to me that a nod to Squandered Resources and also taking the card slightly more in the direction of Chrome Mox might be healthier:

    Mox 0 mana
    Artifact {MR}
    Consume - sacrifice a land, tap symbol : Add one mana of any color that land could produce to your mana pool.

    I'd be grateful for any thoughts on either version - or suggestions for a name!

    Hey guys, I have a set that has flavour sort--of similar to Zendikar (pre-Eldrazi), with a lot of wild mana and that sort of thing.
    The set has the mechanic Consume, which requires the sacrifice of a land to achieve some effect. With that minimal background info in mind:

    Mox 0 mana
    Artifact {MR}
    Consume - sacrifice a land, tap symbol : Add one mana of any color to your mana pool.

    This is a card I want to include in the set - but I've no idea how to name it. Any ideas?

    EDIT: It is possible to change it to a Legendary Artifact if flavour or power demands it, but at this stage I had imagined it not to be necessary.

    Yeah I'm very much umming and ahhing about the Stronghold Legion. I actually like that they mess with combat a bit, and I like the flavour that in a group they can really lock the board down on defense. I think their 1 toughness is crucial for this, so they can easily be blown out by Tremors or combat tricks. I thought the 4-cost guy would be OK if you manage to nab 3… but you will have to be careful that your 4-slot doesn't fill to quickly.
    Anyway, that's 1 against the guy, noted.

    Yeah, the Loam Golem is an artifact, thanks. I'm not necessarily going for a slower format, but I think that's the way it will turn out. Also it is a land-themed set, and having high-cost land fetchers is kinda part of it. I guess there's not much feedback I can get from this guy, he'll just depend on what slots I still need to fill.

    Guide for the Lost. Cool, thanks.

    Mmm, yeah the Storm Raven is hard to judge with no context. As I said earlier, it's a land-themed set and I'm actually using an inverse Landfall (whenever a land leaves the battlefield) trigger mechanic, so the Raven is kinda a thing there. I guess just trust that it has utility, and try to judge the raw stats based on the tempo impact it has on entry? If not, leave it!
    EDIT: I considered making the :3mana::symu: Raven a 2/3, but decided against it given the context of its mechanical synergy with the set.

    Cheers.

    Hi everyone.
    Here are some cards that I intend to include in my limited-focused block. For each card I have provided what I feel is balanced and a good card, but I'm not 100% sure of any of them. I also suggest a second option that I feel could work. Primarily I'm looking for development feedback.
    If you have any advice, questions or comments I'm all ears.

    Stronghold Legion 3 mana white mana
    Creature - Human Soldier {C}

    When Stronghold Legion enters the battlefield, you may search your library for up to three cards named Stronghold Legion, reveal them, put them into your hand, then shuffle your library.

    This is a lovely mechanic. Really versatile, powerful and fun.

    My first thoughts:
    Be careful how many free (or very low) mana costs you include. There are a lot of ways to reveal a lot of cards in Magic, so this could pretty swiftly get degenerate.

    Your 1/1 blue man makes me really happy.

    Since you worded the mechanic as 'play' rather than 'cast', I thought you may as well include a land. I think this would be fair:

    Dreamscape
    Land {C}
    Dreamcast 0 mana
    Dreamscape enters the battlefield tapped.
    :symtap:: Add 1 mana to your mana pool.

    Since you're still playing the land you can't use this to accelerate, only for card advantage. While free card advantage is awesome, I would say the restrictions are severe enough that it could only get play in dedicated decks and is hardly likely to be more abusive than any Karoo land.

    EDIT: I'll post some ideas later when I've had some time to ponder.

    Dashrabbit is pretty wildly, concerningly OP. Goblin Lackey with haste.
    Putting any of the following onto the battlefield on turn 1 with very little effort is going to be a big issue in my book:
    Mulldrifter; Phantom Nishoba; Trostani's Summoner; Pentavus; Sekki, Seasons' Guide; or Workhorse. Special mention to Gigantomancer.

    I think the power problem with the new versions could be that you get to choose the permanent. I also think that you would be better off having it, "Resuurect N" for elegance of wording. Soulshift did it, even though in 95% of cases N=CMC-1.

    Here's my take:

    Ressurect N (When you cast this spell, return a permanent card that costs N or less at random from your graveyard to the battlefield. Then put the top N cards of your library into your graveyard.)

    Now you have room for one or two special cases, but for the majority of spells just set N as 1 less than its mana cost.
