Uh, I signed up to host a mini in the old thread and it was ignored. If that can be added at the time it was requested, I would be grateful.

So far so good on the clan contest, we're 2-0 beating the simic's glittering deck. Fun games, as the other player was nice. Game 1 i won with essentially all burn (Groundbreaker 6, shockland of his for 2, sudden impact for 7, sudden shock for 2, stormbind for 4).

Game 2 i kept a 4 land, howling mine, mine, rites hand, going mine, rites. I impacted him for 10 after he played a hierarch , dropped another mine and a rite of flourishing and stormbind. He played dovescape and hit me down to 3, i binded him for 4 at eot (him at 10), drew 5 cards, played a land, and binded him for 10.

Yeah, stormbind's pretty good in this deck.

Any updates? We have at least one another match, right?

Today and Saturday I am going to Padres' games and tomorrow I am going to a bonfire. I don't really see the point of a bonfire before the school year, just overall the premise is rather weird, but it's something to do so I am going to go. Then Sunday and Monday I guess I have to go school shopping and all that fun stuff. Yeah, I procrastinate a little.

Ooh, ill play vs cyan! Me Me! IF its not too late.

Just to make things clear for you Jobie, I concede to loran to play Cyan. I am pretty sure that will maximize our odds. Wink

At any rate, I go back to a school a week from tomorrow. I went ahead and picked up my summer reading, Into the Wild today at Borders after seeing Rush Hour 3. Started reading it, and it seems like it should be decent. I am also reading Fiasco: The American Military Adventure in Iraq. It's a very accurate description of how we got into Iraq and then into the position that we are currently in. I would recommend it, although I have no idea of anyone's political leanings here. It shouldn't matter too much though, it isn't very partisan in its criticism.

As for Rush Hour 3, it was, uh, not too great. Didn't really expect it to be. I also saw the Harry Potter movie last year and felt of the movies it might be the best. I think it was cut well to fit with the book and the direction just worked me. Also read the new Harry Potter book, not sure if any of you did, but I will spoiler my thoughts.

Overall I was rather disappointed with the book. The beginning pseudo-Lord of the Rings forest sequences weren't really appreciated. Dumbledore's backstory and the entire Deathly Hallows plotline also seemed unnecessary to me. With that space I think she could have done what my biggest complaint about the book is: She seems to have forgot character development of her main characters. Ron and Hermione in particular just seemed to become stock characters to me and that was unfortunate. Harry's resurrection was a little weird too and the epilogue was most definitely not what I was looking for.

All that said, there were a number of good moments. All the scenes from Gringotts on, especially those in in Hogwarts, were pretty amazing. The final scene, ridiculous as it was, was pretty badass. Snape's story was worthwhile, if somewhat predictable. A number of the callbacks to the rest of the series also pleased me.

My last complaint before I end this already long post (I hadn't planned it this way) was that the deaths paid attention to most here were those of non-humans. I found that rather strange. Another oddity was this book contained what I think is the most obvious contradiction in the whole series: early on Hermione states she had memory charmed her parents, then only a few chapters later she says she only knew the theory behind memory charms and had never performed one.

At any rate, I threw a bunch out there. Hopefully we can find something to latch onto there that will stimulate conversation.

Jobie you rock. Not sure if it will work but I wish you luck nonetheless. I really think new members could get us active, but I don't really know who's active and who would fit in here that doesn't have a clan. You guys would probably know better than me.

Also, if it isn't too late, I will play if no one else wants to. I won't lie, I am not very good, but it is something.

I got back from Rhode Island. It was a pretty good time. If you want to see what I did for talent show, I am the middle one on the left: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jpRrhM2AfDM&mode=related&search=

That was fun. I also gave the Roger Williams statue a friendship bracelet. He appreciated it greatly.

Not sure what I think of either move.

Mikey already mods the forums that he reads, not sure what making him a global will do. Although he does use New Posts so maybe he will end up modding elsewhere. I do have faith in Mikey, though, and he can't be worse than some current globals.

Kraj as a moderator for Debate doesn't really seem like the answer to me either, but you could do worse too.

Anyway, I don't mean to be disparaging. Congratulations to you both and may you prove me wrong.

Svogthos might as well be Sunhome, Fortress of the Legion in a mono black deck.

No, actually, it isn't even close to being the same thing. Svogthos is in there as a last resort win condition after multiple wrath effects or something similarly catastrophic. In this situation the game has likely been long and there is a very high chance you have a Prismatic Lens in play. If so, it can very well be dropped and win the game for you.

Having haste would be nice but setting it up with one of your discard spells can be just as effective.

I have been running into a lot of discard decks on MWS and that is very effective at disrupting me.

It just seems like Main Deck Extirpate really really ruins your day. I didn't think persecute got reprinted in Xth.

Apparently it did not. This hurts quite a bit. Distress is back and is an alternative but I can't really run it as a one of like Persecute. I guess I would look at something like this then (Street Wraith nice but it often just helps your opponent beat you a turn before you go off. It also gives you an alternative after being Extirpated but is isn't a real alternative so I am okay cutting them):

Running 4 copies of Beacon of Destruction gives you an alternate win condition also tutored by Brainspoil. Once all your rats have scurried out with a stone on the board, it could easily deal 20 damage straight up, and cycle back into your library in case you need to do it again.

The problem is that this deck is really black mana intensive and getting double red may be difficult. It also seems in this case Mortal Combat is just an easier way to victory. The fact is this deck does not allow much room for building. I attempted working in Watery Graves and Remands but couldn't really justify it.
