I lost at least 30 pounds in the last two years by consciously changing what I ate. For example, I started eating whole grains instead of refined stuff. I also eliminated almost all junk food from my diet and started eating more fruits and vegetables. Every now and then I'll cheat a bit and eat something "bad" but I don't really worry too much about it. Like you, I am currently about 160 lbs and 6 feet tall. I recently started a serious weight lifting regimen so I'm actually trying to avoid losing any more weight. As it is, I already look pretty lean even though I still have some stubborn body fat remaining (mostly in my stomach and legs). However, if what I've been reading is correct, the process of building muscle itself should help burn off a lot of the excess fat.
A basic Google search for "weight training metabolism" yielded a few interesting results. This is one of them.
Eh, Dark Tower was okay. It was fun to read, but it is obscenely overrated. The whole series is laughably derivative, especially towards the end. And the whole thing where
Stephen King himself shows up in the books
was completely idiotic. That said, I did enjoy them, I just hate that everyone ranks it up there with Lord of the Rings as greatest fantasy series of all time.
Well, you know what they say about opinions....
I wouldn't necessarily say that Stephen King's presence in the later books was completely idiotic, but it was a bit weird. At least it kind of made sense when tied in with the rest of the plot. Roland and his ka-tet happened to end up in the "real world" where Stephen King turned out to be vital to the continued existence of the universe. The worst I can say is that it was somewhat egotistical on King's part.
Actually, they word on the street is Paramount Pictures will be producing The Dark Tower (and subsequent sequels) and allowing the greatest people ever to work it out:
JJ Abrams and Damon Lindelof.
I'm a huge LOST fan, and I think Dark Tower was some of the best writing i've ever had the pleasure of encountering.
This has the potential to be WAYYY more epic than LoTR.
It might be possible to pull off one movie per book, Harry Potter style (yes, I just compared The Dark Tower with Harry Potter, even though I never read any of the books or saw any of the movies). Of course, the longest books in the series are at least two or three times longer than the shortest ones. Even if they manage to turn The Gunslinger and The Drawing of the Three into two hour movies without cutting a lot from the books, there's no way they could do the same thing with most of the other books.
The Dark Tower series as a whole was probably the greatest reading experience of my life. I would suggest reading the books in order and not skipping any of them. About 3/4 of Wizard and Glass is back-story but the opening and ending are both tied to the books immediately preceding and following it. In other words, you're in for some spoilers if you read it before any of the other books.
Sugar provides no calories, and therefore, triggers no metabolism.
Really? Sugar is a simple carbohydrate and it contains roughly 4 calories per gram (slightly less than the amount contained in a gram of protein). The real problem with simple carbohydrates is that they are broken down by the body very quickly, thus leaving you feeling hungry again in a short amount of time. On the other hand, complex carbohydrates (found in legumes, fruit, vegetables, and whole grains) contain fiber, which causes them to digest more slowly.
As for protein, the general consensus is that you should consume at least 1 gram a day for each pound of your target body weight. At least, that's the case when you are doing strength training with weights. Of course, there has been quite a bit of debate about how much protein is really necessary. However, I think I can safely say that you are better off increasing your protein intake while lowering your fat and carb intake.
I recently started working out seriously myself, and I think I am going to stick with the following routine:
Day 1 - Chest, Shoulders, Triceps, Abs
Day 2 - Rest
Day 3 - Legs, Back, Biceps, Abs
Day 4 - Rest
Day 5 - Chest, Shoulders, Triceps, Abs
Day 6 - Rest
Day 7 - Rest
Day 8 - Legs, Back, Biceps, Abs
Day 9 - Rest
Day 10 - Chest, Shoulders, Triceps, Abs
Day 11 - Rest
Day 12 - Legs, Back, Biceps, Abs
Day 13 - Rest
Day 14 - Rest
Rinse and Repeat
As you can see, this routine allow me to alternate having 3 or 4 days between each muscle group. Th only exception would be abs, which you can work more often than the other groups.
Longtime Eagles assistant coach Jim Johnson dies at 68
The Associated Press
PHILADELPHIA - Jim Johnson, whose attacking defenses helped the Eagles to one Super Bowl appearance and five NFC title games, has died. He was 68.
Johnson had taken a leave of absence from the team in May as he continued to battle a cancerous tumor on his spine. The Eagles announced his death on Tuesday afternoon.
A veteran of 22 years as an NFL assistant, Johnson is regarded as one of the top defensive minds in the league, known for building units able to pressure the quarterback from every angle. His defenses consistently ranked among the best in the league, including last season, when the Eagles finished third in total defense and fell one victory short of the Super Bowl.
Johnson is survived by his wife, Vicky, two children and four grandchildren.
That is correct. However, your monitor most likely doesn't have built in speakers anyway. Even if it did, you would probably be better off getting a semi-decent pair of external speakers and connecting them to the 360 with the AV cable. This might be helpful.
That's the thing though, before buying the VGA cable for my 360, I want to know if I will be able to play in HD. I know specs say that the monitor can play HD movies, but can I game in HD? To play Xbox 360 in HD you need something that supports either 720p or 1080i or 1080p (Not that I really understand anything of those numbers other than they are HD settings). That is what I'm trying to figure out.
According to the specs I was reading, the monitor seems to have a high enough resolution to at least display images in 720p. It also comes with a DVI cable which can be connected to the HDMI output of the 360 with the appropriate adapter (assuming that you already have an HDMI cable). As far as I know, VGA output is analog and incapable of transmitting a true HD signal. In other words, don't even bother with VGA.
May I suggest doing what I do? Run the cord for your headphones underneath your shirt. Works for me.
Then again, if you don't wear a shirt while you work out, you might have to resort to wearing wireless headphones anyway. I have a feeling most wireless units are fairly bulky though.
This poll needs more Dr. Wily. I don't know if I would say he's the most evil but his absence from the original list is somewhat shocking. If nothing else, he's persistent...
"What's that, Mega Man? I'm owned again? OK, see ya next game."
As for my actual vote, I think I'm gonna have to agree with those who wrote in with Kefka.
My second course would be to recommend HP. Ignore the guy who said to avoid HP. HP doesn't make amazing computers, but they're cheaper than Dell, and you get more.
Actually, the guy who suggested avoiding HP is on the right track. Speaking from personal experience, I would avoid HP at all costs. I don't really have time to explain my personal situation in detail but this website was created for people who have had problems similar to mine.
Doesn't tap water contain fluoride, the stuff that makes you dumb?
Um, yes, but how does it make you dumb? And even if it does, do you really think the water used to make Pepsi (and other soft drinks) has the fluoride filtered out of it? I highly doubt it.
I can clearly say that once I saw this part I LOLED and cant take that list serious at all.
Yeah, I was kinda surprised by that too. Keep in mind that Metacritic only compiles results for games that were released fairly recently. The oldest game listed is Day of the Tentacle (1993), and the oldest console game listed is Battle Arena Toshinden (1995). There are NO games listed for consoles that were released before the PS1, hence the ratings are somewhat skewed.
Oh, snap. SNES is by far my favorite system, but I hadnt played that game or heard the music. Very nice. I had always assumed that specific Megaman X song was the most metal just from how layered and complex it is O.O I'll have to look for that X-men game next time I'm at the local second-hand gamestore.
I actually still own a copy of the game, come to think of it. I remember it being pretty fun but I never really got very far in it. All things considered, the music is probably one of the most memorable aspects of the game.

Top Metacritic scores for games on all systems (including PC).
You were saying?

Ha ha, nice. It's amazing how efficiently Tony Iommi plays guitar with those stubby fingers of his. He makes it look so easy.
While we're on the subject of video games borrowing music from heavy metal bands....
