hmmm...that mantis card....is so weird and you are so weird for playing it. There is already a thread where i - and many others- say why this deck is kinda bad, and how to make it almost good.
Why is it weird. Its a 3/3 that you can make flying and first strike
Just a rough start to a control progenitus deck. Whats your thoughts. I havent decided on mana yet this is just the deck via before mana. Don't know about mantis engine, just wanted another creature in there other than pro because you can only have one of them. And it is very versatile.
well i was planning on using some vivid lands which gives you any color twice. or even the land enchantment that gives you any color plus the normal color when you tap it so your getting 2 lands per 1 and 1 of any color. those are just thoughts i dunnu yet. so I was going to go with vivid medow and vivid growth then some basic swamps or something in those combinations maybe 12 vivid's and 8 basics like 4 plain forest and swamps ( vivid versions) then 4 basic mountains and 4 basic islands or something in that nature. also I was wanting another creature other than pro just for blocking purposes may change it from mantis to something cheaper with first strike but i dunno. You guys have really helped and id love to hear more. Thanks
cut mantis engine. You want your non-prog fodder to be non-creatures i ntheir normal state. You should run 4x mutavault and maybe some blinkmoth nexi, though red also gives options like dragon fodder.
Also, consider proteus staff.
Things like vedalken shackles and threads of disloyalty allow you to sacrifice your opponents permanents for stass/poly
Well I had mantis engine in there because it is a veritale creature for blocking while pro gets out there? I will look into your suggestions, thanks. Anyone else?
really the only answer for him would be something like hallowed burial
Well im not looking for an answer for him Im looking for a way to make him bad ass as ****. I was hoping to enchant him with double strike or vigilance or something like that.
At 10 mana and with so little efficient excel in Type 2, really the only way to get Progenitus into play practically is to cheat him into play(Dramatic Entrance, Polymorph, etc.). Unfortunately with a build like this, you will just always end up with Progs sitting in your hand, getting frustrated because getting to 10 mana in this format isn't the easiest thing in the world to do.
Well thats what elvish piper is for tap 1 green and elvish piper and put a creature card from your hand into play. Also I will probably have 4 unmakes in there somewhere to slow them down. and I plan on using only 10 of the vivid's and 10 other mana.
I wanted to try to come up with a way to incorporate Porgenitus in a deck because I thought it was a really cool card so this is what I came up with. Please leave positive feedback or constructive critisism. I don't know if this will be my deck now or not because I originally had 4 x Boldwyr Heavyweights to help pull out the Progenitus but I realized that it meant only opponents get to search for a card so that blew that idea. So if anyone has any creative ways to pull him out please let me know. Thanks.
Ok well I have ordered alot of cards and the deck I am making is very close to the version of dirty kitty ( Goblin Deck ). I am wondering what is a great deck to beat elfs. I am not looking for any certain tournament type cause I will probably play vintage so that doesnt matter. But yea just need something to kill elves. My friend runs a very strong and fairly fast elf deck. Thanks.
Hey there, I just wanted to ask for you feedback on this since I can't figure it out myself.
After playing Impulse would you rather shuffle afterward so those 3 cards that will be put on the bottom of the library will be shuffled back to the deck, or would be better for those 3 cards to stay on the bottom of the library since they will be worse quality compared to the one you will select and put in your hand?
I know that sometimes those 3 cards might be needed while other times the can be useless, but as a general rule and talking statistically does Impulse benefit from a shuffle effect or does it defeat the whole purpose of the card?
In my opinion you shouldn't ever have a card in your deck that is worthless to the outcome of the game so imo shuffle.
Binary's reply in your other thread should give you some direction as where to look - the competitive sub-forum. I would look at the sticked threads there for some understanding of the format - Ichorid first as it's the most bizarre of the lot and in some ways the linchpin of the format. This will allow you to understand why all the other sideboards contain graveyard hate. Then I might look at Grim Long, Painter and Control Slaver to see how Storm functions and some of the commonly played cards. Take note of the kill methods in various decks - usually Mindslaver, Darksteel Colussus or Tendrils of Agony. Then maybe examine the Blue Based Fish thread - this is really a deck that reacts to the other decks that are your local metagame. There are non-stickied threads on Workshop and Tezzeret that would be of use in helping you understand those two deck forms - but you need to do a fair amount of research to understand it all. And thats only 6 or so archetypes - keep digging and you can find more.
Currently the most dominant deck in the format is Tezzeret Control of some form, usually incorporating Mana Drains and using Timevault/Tezz/Voltaic key as the finisher lock. There is concern amongst the vintage community that it may have become too dominating - only time will tell. The top 3 most played decks are probably some form of Tez, Ichorid and Workshop decks (and these are very broad archetypes). There are at least 15 different archetypes.

Thank you for your imput. I understand where the deck section is at I was just looking for some different people opinions. I have no friends that play with me so its alittle harder. But thanks for everyones help and more ideas are always welcome.
Hi I just recently got back into the game my friend has decided to give it up cause he started a new job and gave me his 10,000 card collection from 4th edition and up. Was just wondering what good decks are out there for vintage right now that I may work on building. Thanks.
