Granted, there are some differences, such as seal vs fish, but look at the differences between merfolk and cephalids. They are a sentient race that bears no resemblance to the merfolks.
It's going to take that big of an identity to split selkies into another race, but selkies really just feels like merfolk's cousins.
Edit: And the parent article did explain why it grouped Redcaps into Goblins.

But instead we reinvested in the Goblin type, which not only gave casual Goblin decks a nice additional monster, but also allowed us to give Lorwyn-Morningtide Boggart decks an additional red-black Goblin even when the rest of the Goblin tribe had moved on to red-green.
Replace redcap with selkies and goblins with merfolk and it's one more bit of information based on Shadowmoor.
Agreed on the "just so we can call it" bit. When recalling the mechanics used in this set, at least we think of "chroma" instead of "the ability which counts the number of mana symbols."
Even though we already have Ghastlord of Fugue, I'd say it's a spectre on the box art.
Humanoid figure on a winged mount, and a lance for a weapon.
Pretty much a spectre.
No, you couldn't. The creatures don't come into play again, they just become the creature. If you had thirty 8/8s though, I don't think you care about blowing up permanents.
EDIT: Oh, and when they come back they'll be themselves again, since they changed zones they'll be different objects.
So am I right to say when Isamaru, Hound of Konda dies after mirrorweaving a Woodfall Primus, it comes back as an Isamaru with a -1/-1 counter?
:3mana::symrg: Legendary Creature - Giant Shaman:symtap:: add to your mana pool. Spend this mana only for costs containing :xmana:.Illus. Aleksi Briclot#214/3014/4
Merfolk looters definitely. Works as an discard outlet, and has the potential to draw out your whole deck with Undead Warchief and 2 Reejereys in play.
One each of Basal Sliver, Reejerey and skeletal changeling allows you to infinitely tap or untap stuff, note:unlimted mana. Loot your whole deck. Find Ambassador Laquatus and mill to win the game. Not feeling safe? Discard your opponent's hands with mindlash sliver before you start searching. (You have to discard their last card in their end turn step though. So you'll have 1 spare card from your draw to be able to dig your deck.)
Laquatus acts as a mana drain, and if you don't like having him, build up gravestorm counts and cast Bitter Ordeal with just Basal Sliver, Skeletal Changeling and Haakon.
Yes, this deck has, apart from the aggro potential, a pretty neat mill strategy in it.
Someone played this on me.
Cleared the board with Multilate the previous turn, Profane command for 6 to the dome and targeting laquatus's champion in his graveyard. Meh.
Yes, it is underhyped since everyone was going gahgah over the blue command instead.
I'd say add in undead warchiefs for reducing mana costs, pumping your creatures. Well, if you have Haakon, the warchief, basal sliver and skeletal changeling you've got an unlimited B engine. Mirror Entity loves loads of mana.
Fear and direct life loss to the dome. Even if you dont have the unlimited mana, you could X it for 5 and alpha strike. It's resurrect choice allows you to bring back that dead sliver or anything else inbetween.
Personally I don't like Smallpox in a deck such as this. Granted it discards Haakon, but you have plenty of early plays and you'll end up trading in more than you want to. You could, however, add in Dash Hopes since he might think twice about setting himself back on 5 life against an aggro deck.

What happens when a creature with Persist dies when Endless Whispers is in play?

And if they are tokens, do they come back at all?
What happens when you kill your creatures after turning them to Woodfall Primus? (i.e. via Spawning Pit)
Turn 5 (or earlier with mana acceleration from red or green): Dire Undercurrents
Next turn: Oona
Oh the joys
Doubling your X abilities is neat.

For example you use ME's ability for 1 and you have a sinew sliver in play.
Do you have 2/2s or 1/1s?
