I don't really think I'd want to show you my work station It's in a constant state of clutter.
I actually have a nice, big drafting table, but it's always in the flat position and steadily draws crap from around my room onto it. There was a stack of books and papers I'd set the cards on to dry, and somehow between placing them there and leaving to do other things, they'd slid off and into the water.
I suspect it was the wrestling with my partner that knocked them off their perch, but I really have no way of knowing
Well, I pulled a stupid when I had my accident too..... two cards I'd been working, one for commission (that I'd finished) and one for myself, were unknowingly knocked into the container and left there. Needless to say I was a little peeved when I came back from dinner and saw them swimming around, having a grand time.
Ended up buying a playset of the commissioned card to replace it, but it was a cheap rare, so eh.
Edit: Damage can be pretty irreparable when the card warps horribly. Sure, you might be able to get it to look fine, but it'd stick out like a sore thumb in a deck.
Huh, let us know how your new account works there, CardKitty.
But my sympathy goes out to everyone At least it seems like a general ban, the printed cards seem to have been hit as well.
Can't really say I'm surprised, aside from the abruptness of this, but something was gonna happen sooner or later, yeah? You don't get MTG artists that come around huffing and puffing and threatening to blow our house of cards down often, though. And then actually going off to do it.
@spankme - It might be because of the nudity, I know the land you're talking about But for ebay to say that it was a violation of WotC rights, that doesn't make any sense...
Keeping in mind that the only artist (and only artists named beside him) no longer create art for Magic, this doesn't seem like a toughie.
I suppose
But if Ed somehow gains the ability to rally more recent and employed MTG Artists, and they decide to pick a bone with the Altered Art community, then I'm wondering who will win that titan showdown. I mean, WotC stands to lose something (what exactly, I don't know - money, fame, etc.) if their artists rebel, but then they also stand to lose a lot if their players rebel.
Mind you, the Altered art community isn't all that large, and there's way more players to fill the spots they leave.
This sort of limbo we're in because no one has received a definitive stance from Wizards makes me nervous
Urza, would you say that he and his little troll friend 'chris' are very Petty?
Calling names isn't beneficial to any debate, no matter how strong one's personal opinions are.
As for the email, I'm interested in seeing how this unfolds - it almost seems like it's setting WotC up to choosing sides; a) Magic the Gathering artists or b) Magic the Gathering fans who create and play with Altered Cards.
Well.... I'm glad you sent something like an apology, yawg
Eh, screw the alternate thread thing, 'snot like anyone's gonna do it and all the main traffic we get is here. Kinda interesting to watch the 'Active Users Viewing This Thread' explode then slowly dwindle down.
But anyways, it would definitely suck if altering cards was turned into a limited 'don't do it for profit' thing. I'm not mongering about losing money, it's just that if that happens card alters will become a scarce rarity owned only by those with artistical talent I mean, how many of us are going to be willing to spend time painting cards only to give them away as gifts to anyone who asks? Or to trade?
I dunno, I just love card alters, it's sad to think of them as a 'dying race'.
And additionally:
I agree with respecting the original artists copyrights and I would gladly keep their names on altered cards if that was all they asked of us, but I have to point out that while Ed seems to be convinced that if he gets an apology everything will be fine and dandy, I don't think every other artist that's had one of their cards altered and sold will be as forgiving.

Yawg - Almost a little worse they were homemade proxies. Border extensions are simple to do, but original art is always a pain to redraw.
Naw, the water I use to clean my brushes in and thin paint was right below them. Wasn't, like, my brightest moment or anything....

Yawg- Glad to be of service

Eheheh... I haven't been posting because.... because... I fail so hrd
The motivation to paint on Magic cards sort of dies when your MTG buddy moves onto bigger and better things... (read=MMO)
And I was horribly brick'd in the face by a Baneslayer Angel
Still have it lying around here somewhere....

Sorry, Galspanic, but that just made it sound like you either have a kitten or a kid that's part animal.
Cute.
I swear, someone's gonna play one and I'm either gonna flip the table or have a breakdown, whichever registers in my brain first.
This one fought me the entire way.... I scanned it once, thinking I was finished, then nearly put my foot through the computer screen when I saw it.
It was green.
....And don't even get me started on the folds....
Well, at the cost of a few years of my life, have a Baneslayer Angel!
Looks much better irl in my opinion... scanners seem to turn things grainy

Just.... food for thought.
