What happens when you combine a bidding system with grid drafting? Well, that's what I was trying to figure out. I came up with the mash up on the airplane, so it's only a rough idea at the moment.

    How it works:

    - Create a 4x4 grid of cards.

    - Starting from the top left corner and moving across the top, number them 5, 10, 15, and 20.
    - Do the same moving down the left side.

    - Now, to see how much a group of cards costs, your start at the most left card of a row, or the most top card of a column, and move across/down as many cards as you want, then multiply the number of cards you took by the value of that row/column.

    - For example, there's an Umezawas Jitte three spaces from the left and three down, so I grab that card, and all cards before it (either above or to the left), then pay points equal to (number of cards taken) x (point value of row/column). In this instance, it'd be 45 points.

    - Finally, the player ends their turn by sliding all cards in a row or column to the left or top respectively, then replacing the taken cards from the cube.

The point system: Everyone starts with 300 points, and goes through 20 rounds, gaining 10 points per round, then builds their deck.

I'm eager to hear your thoughts/questions/concerns, as I'm sure this isn't perfect. I do think there's the seed of an engaging 2-4 person draft format though.

    2's everywhere! Lol

    Shifting Sharpshooter 2RW
    Creature - Human Soldier {R}
When ~ enters the battlefield, it deals 2 damage to target creature or player.
1W: Exile ~ with two time counters on it.
    Suspend 2 - RW
    2/2

    Acceptable or too weak now?

Old blue foils are the best foils, followed closely by old artifact foils :p

Here is a Mother of Runes alter by Sandreline.

Not a card alter for the cube, but this Playmat by Sandreline will definitely have many a cube deck played on it.

The Soltari's were done by Demonium71, at the end of his altering career. I really like his style too, very artistic and great to just stare at haha.

@ Sparki: Those alters look very clean! Nice pickups Smile

@ MagicMouse: I absolutely love Mercadian Mask foil Brainstorms. They look soooo sexy.

@ PopeJP: Ohh knocking out some of those expensive foils, very nice Smile I actually hadn't seen the new Vindicate promo yet, looks really great.

This has been the biggest surprise for me. As I said in the Sidisi thread, I was able to get two cube sessions going last Friday and this was in one of the pools. The player that drafted her was very high on her, and said that if he even got one activation out of her, he was happy. When he was able to catch his opponent w/o a removal spell, her ability allowed the board state to spiral out of control for his opponent, applying heavy pressure with minimal investment. I will be keeping her in for the foreseeable future, and like that it rewards heavier white aggro decks.

I had two cube sessions recently (450 Unpowered), and she was a powerhouse in both sessions. The pilots said they always had a creature they didn't mind sacking, mostly due to irrelevance at that point in the game. Whether it was a mana elf that helped power her out early, or a token from one of the various enchantments/PW's, the exploit clause was never an issue. Now I'm not saying she should slot into every black deck all the time, but if you have a few ways to make tokens or have some smaller creatures that might stagnate on the ground, then she should definitely make the final 40. I was very impressed with her performance and the reviews from my players.
