Typically he is allowed to spoil 1-2 cards each set by his own means.

I don't even know where to begin dissecting how incorrect this sentence is. This is entirely false. Never mind the fake-looking image, this line right here invalidates the entire post.

that does not have anything to do with it not being printed again.

They possibly would have reprinted Crop Rotation in 8th if it wasn't restricted.

    http://www.wizards.com/Magic/Magazine/Article.aspx?x=mtgcom/feature/179

That same week, the Eighth team decided to pull Crop Rotation for two good reasons. One, it was the only card in the set that required an additional cost when playing it. Two, some R&D members felt that we shouldn't reprint cards that are restricted in Type 1 in the Core Set no matter how innocuous they might seem out of context, just to avoid sending mixed signals to our players. By restricting Crop Rotation, we are claiming that the card is too powerful, but by reintroducing it to Standard we would be saying that it wasn't, in fact, too powerful at all. Best to leave it out.

It's an exceedingly dated article, but they still haven't broken that rule, so I'd say it's safe to assume that any card restricted in vintage won't be reprinted in a core set. Obviously, the rules in Magic are frequently broken, but I don't see how things have changed any since that article was written on this subject. Otherwise I suspect they would have already reprinted Regrowth. I highly doubt it would be a problem in Standard at all.

Man, some of these requests are outright ridiculous. We all know Necropotence and Balance are broken overpowered and will never be printed again.

How about a few cards that are just fun, not overpowered to dominate the tournament scene:

Darksteel Colossus - All the people suggesting this are right, I hope. I've always loved this guy, and mythic rarity would keep his secondary market value stable through a reprint. One of the best fatties in the game deserves to be in the core set.
Desert Twister - While I love Vindicate, I have enough copies of it to know how insane it really is. This card is high-costed, unlike Vindicate, but the effect is still powerful either way, and sees plenty of play at kitchen tables. A lot more fun than the Creeping Mold that they keep reprinting for some reason.
Fire Imp - FTK's little brother isn't as powerful as FTK, but still quite an interesting card. He hasn't been printed outside of Portal, to boot.
Ghostly Prison - White Propaganda is great, and I really don't know why they haven't reprinted this yet. Windborn Muse, while good, is a lot easier to kill than an enchantment.
All Sun's Dawn - I've always loved this card, and it would go great with all the multicolor stuff going on in the current block.
Mind's Eye - This card is pure casual gold.
Prosperity - This is a decent combo card, but it hasn't been around in quite a while. I'd love to see it broken again in a completely different way.
Ivory Tower - Quite a solid card, but I highly doubt it'll be anywhere near as good as it was back when it was legal.
Harrow - I'd love to see land fetch this strong legal again, but I know this one is simply not going to happen.

Most of the other cards I really want simply aren't going to happen and I know it. I really wish Regrowth could get off the restricted list so it can get reprinted already. Recollect just isn't the same...

Personally, I suspect that there will be Barry's Land if they bring back domain seriously, but I suspect they'd wait until Scissors to print it, as was suggested in the original article about not putting the card in Invasion.

However, I think by far the most interesting thing this would cause is giving a colorless basic land for EDH decks with an artifact creature as their general. No more digging for a stack of 35-40 non-basics that only tap for colorless.

Good lord. Now I _really_ wish there was an FNM near me. That is an incredibly sweet promo. I hope they won't end up TOO high on the secondary market so I can pick up a playset.

I wouldn't expect it now, although it would be neat if they did it and were able to print Barry's Land. I always thought that was one of the neatest ideas they've mentioned and never printed.

Personally, I always liked Windborn Muse.

I do find the change in the text interesting, though:

Tenth: Creatures can't attack you unless their controller pays 2 for each creature he or she controls that's attacking you.
Legions: Creatures can't attack you unless their controller pays 2 for each creature attacking you.

Was there a rules change that caused that change in card wording, or is it simply to clarify whose creatures the card's effect is counting?

It's even better than that. Once the ability is on the stack, it doesn't matter what happens to your Elvish Piper. Your creature comes into play when Elvish Piper's ability resolves, no matter what happens to the piper. If he wants to stop your piper after you've activated it, he'd need something like Trickbind, to counter the ability itself.

Now, if your friend wants to stop the Piper's ability before you use it, he needs to kill it before you can tap it.

    Mekkis pretty much said it.

It's legendary, and they don't do legendary cards in Core Sets. It's also a card that references counters and is generally pretty complicated. It's also a card that WotC has generally considered a mistake, an overpowered card that was played in practically every aggro deck.

There is no way that Jitte is in 10th. Don't give the trolls the satisfaction.

Honestly, I've always hated white border in general, and its original purpose, to show which cards are reprints, is completely bogus at this point anyhow. Cards get reprinted in black-bordered expansions all the time and nobody bats an eye. It's a tradition that I hope they get rid of permanently. I can tell something is reprinted without a hideous border, and so can the people who would care.

Do the aura's brought into play by this trigger card draws off a Verduran? I can never remember the rules on that

No, Verduran Enchantress triggers when you play an enchantment, not when one comes into play.

Might I remind everyone that Rith, the Awakener actually saw competitive play. Yes, the abilities are frequently "win more", however, they're still 6/6 fliers for 6. The ability is just gravy if it's needed and/or you have the mana available. 4 turn clocks with evasion aren't half-bad. Don't discount them just because they're aimed at Timmy.

  • posted a message on Good Cards to 'Ban' in Multiplayer?
Honestly, I see no reason to ban cards specifically for multiplayer. For every tactic, there is a counter that generally works. Yes, some cards are very good in multiplayer. However, instead of banning them, I'd suggest you start playing them yourself.

Infinite combos are simply discouraged in our playgroup, not banned. The solution is simply "Hey, he's playing an infinite combo deck" "Let's wreck him out of the game". If he goes off, he wins. If we crush him, he's out of the game, and he'll probably play a different deck next game.

Banning cards in multiplayer tends to lead to the mentality that "if you can't deal with his strategy, ban it", and that's just not fun for anyone. However, I do suggest applying the tournament banned and restricted list by saying that a deck must be at least tournament legal in one format. You can go ahead and play, say, 4 Regrowth, but your deck had better be Legacy legal otherwise.

If something in particular is bothering you, start playing a way to deal with it. I personally always run Disenchant/Naturalize/Swords to Plowshares/Counterspell/Diabolic Edict/Removal of choice here in any deck that can play them because it just helps to be able to deal with the stuff that is an issue to my deck. Holding two Naturalizes in hand against a combo deck is worth the 1-2 times that you draw them useless against a creature deck to me.
