R_E, can you confirm the winter orb spirit in another thread plesae?

Those cards are directly from Scrye Magazine, void. I haven't heard about them anywhere else, but why would I need to? Scrye can be trusted (for this, anyway... hehe)

Thanks for formatting the cards properly, Orange Mage.

OMG we have a Kittybread(tm) smilie now???? W00000T!!! kittybread kittybread kittybread

... okay sorry where was I. Thumbs Up Hey that one's cool too! Anyway, enough distractions. Someone asked me to post this information without naming who they were. I've never dealt with him in the past, but I used some other independant info I had as collateral, and I can tell you that it's real.

It's an "enchant land" or maybe "enchant forest" for one green mana, which returns to hand if it goes to the graveyard from play, and enchanted land is a 4/4 creature (maybe with trample) if you pay two colorless.

I think this matches up with the red version we got from InQuest, which turned the land into a 6/1.

Seems like a very nasty and powerful set of uncommons! Wonder what the white, black, and blue ones are like?

R_E's password was changed for security reasons. He is still banned. No one is impersonating him, no one is going in and reading anything.

You guys will look for anything to riot about, won't you?

He calls this a conspiracy theory, and says that he hacked my account for security reasons? In 5 years on MTGnews I never had a reason to worry about security. vB3 is known for being secure forum software. If this was about security, why not just close (ban) my account? Anyone who has used vB knows that doing so shuts down everything about the account. Instead, I'm not banned, my password doesn't let me log in, but someone has been logging into my account.

    Attachments:
1 - What the top right of the page looks like when I'm browsing MTGnews.
2 - What happens when I put in "rancored_elf" and my password.
3 - My user profile. Not banned. Last login is this afternoon at 2:30. Currently offline.

As a side note, my "homepage" setting has been changed to "www.mtgnews.com" which it has never been. Custom tag and "Best Staff Member 2004" have been removed.

This just in! I got an email from Raa. I won't do a copy/paste, but here are the relevant bits.

"I disabled sending private mail posts to your mtgnews account."

Sounds like Raa has a brain in his head. He's put an end to S_S's plan to harvest my incoming messages. Nice! Smile I wonder if S_S got anything useful in the 24 hours or so? Doubt it.

"I'm not 100% opposed to putting your account back as a normal user. So
long as you don't insite waves of vandalism."

He's contemplating allowing me to have my account back? That's cool. But since I don't plan to post there anyway, I'd just as soon have it closed (banned). But of course, either option is better than S_S having control of it.

I haven't replied yet... I have to think.

He has obviously created a new class for users where they can PM and whatnot and do not appear banned, but are, in actuality, banned. It's that simple, and quite easy to do.

Agreed. This is possible using the software at News.

My recommendation for anyone that has access to their News account is to immediately log in, delete all your PMs (save copies of anything important), take any valuable information you've posted on News in the past (cards you've created, primers you've written, clan lists, games and characters you've had, and so on) and save it to a TXT file on your harddrive, or post it in the respective forums here.

For example, before I left on December 31st, I deleted all my PMs in case something like this happened. It seemed silly at the time (I didn't even think S_S would ban me... I just thought I'd fade away from News) but I'm glad I did it. I also made a copy of all 450 cards I've created in the NCSI forum (I'll be posting them ALL here soon! :)). I also snagged a bunch of other useful posts that I'd made in the years I was there, and saved them to my harddrive, or posted them here (the two stickies in the Rumor Mill forum, for example).

Lastly, remove any personal information in your profile, change your sig to say MTG SALVATION (:evil2: ), and change your password.

Do this as soon as you can, as it looks like things are getting desperate and near the end at News. OMG :\'(

    EDIT:

    Quote from Simkin »
But does S_S post as you? I thought R_E said S_S was using his account to pm people... what's the deal?

No, I said that he was using my account to receive PMs.

My account is not banned. When I try and log in, I can't because my password has been changed, and I can't request it to be emailed to me or reset. I can't log in at all, but as evidenced, "someone" has been logging in.

Darth Cow, you're welcome to set my account to "banned". I think that would be alright for you to do without getting S_S mad at you over there.

For people saying "you should PM all your contacts and let them know not to PM you!", do you realize how silly that sounds? I can't log into my account on News, so I can't send PMs to my contacts. Many of them haven't spoken to me since I left there, so I don't know if they're aware I'm here, or not. That's pretty much why I made this thread - in case any of my previous contacts/friends saw it and it prevented them from sending me a PM at News.

I think the fair thing for S_S to do is to ban my account, not keep it open as his own personal puppet, waiting for a rumor or something to come in so he can post it. Think how upset any of you would be, if someone did that to you. It's not right.

Luckily, 3/4 of my contacts know by my AIM or email. The few that only contacted me by PM have probably seen that I'm not there anymore. I doubt S_S will get any useful information by logging into my News account.

Has anyone sent a test message to me at News? I'd like to be sure that they're going through, to confirm that he's logging in as me. (banned members can't read PMs, in fact the system won't even let you send a banned member a PM at all)

    1) An important development.

I'm telling everyone this not to enflame any existing hard feelings and so on, but because I think it's really important for people to know. S_S has used his Administrator capabilities on MTGnews to obtain the password to my account. Therefore, even though it appears that I'm not banned, I can't post, edit, or delete posts, I can't read or send PMs, and I can't even log in. If any posts, edits, or PMs are made after January 1st, they are S_S and not me.

    2) How to contact me.

Because of this, any PM you send to me on MTGnews is being read by S_S. Please DO NOT PM ME AT MTGNEWS.

    To get ahold of me:

    - PM me here on MTG Salvation
    - email me at my hotmail account (drutter)
    - talk to me on AIM (rancoredelf)

I answer my emails about once a day. I answer my PMs 2 or 3 times a day. Sometimes I get really busy on AIM and I'm not available for "chitchat" all the time. Sometimes I am, but sometimes I'm not. If there's something important, I'm always available if you see me online. I don't always have AIM on if I'm at the computer, so if it's urgent, PM me and I'll probably get it within a few minutes.

Again, do not PM me at MTG News because it won't be me reading or replying. Thanks, and I apologize to anyone in advance who will accuse me of being petty by posting this. I'm merely trying to protect my online identity.

EDIT: See post 79 for the update!

    Not a chance in hell.

This makes me sad. You're a good friend and it upsets me to hear you talk like that. I never said that Salvation "never did anything wrong", and I don't think Numen meant to say that, either. I don't have anything against News, I just can't post there because I'm banned. I resigned as admin, and lost my ability to continue as part of that site. I'm still in the community, though. This is the future of that community. Being "loyal" to MTGnews is honorable, but I think some people think it's their duty to go down with a sinking ship. I prefer to simply accept that there are two sites for the community. One is old, one is new. One starts with N, one starts with S. But in the end, we're one community, and some of us post on one "area", some post on the other "area", and some post on both.

What I'd love is for SS to have an unfortunate smelting accident and end up unable to continue destroying MTGnews, and perhaps everybody could just join together, hold hands, and sing kumbaya. I guess that won't happen, though. Frown

    Never looking back.

I'm happy with the new vB software. Other than the expected "bad blood" going on in the community at this time, I'm enjoying everything! I hope the healing begins soon and we can get over all the problems.

Soon we'll be talking about pringles again, right? Grin

  • posted a message on Rumor Mill Guidelines (Read this!)
Note: I originally wrote this information for the MTGnews Rumor Mill, but we're using the same guidelines here in the Salvation forums. Same community, same rules. Thanks!

Here are some Rumor Mill DOs:

1.) DO discuss rumors. If someone posts a rumor, feel free to take it apart piece by piece and scrutinize it. Give your reasoning, ideas, thoughts. Just remember to keep it positive. Flaming someone just because you don't agree with them is BAD. If a moderator thinks there is enough evidence to deem a rumor false, it will be closed.

2.) DO report problematic posts. If someone flames, spams, or does anything that breaks the rules of the Rumor Mill (or the forums), please click "report this post". Give reasoning why you're reporting the post even if it seems obvious. If someone creates a new thread called "I'm going to kill all the moderators", don't bother reporting it. I'm sure we'll notice pretty quickly.

3.) DO speculate about upcoming sets. Please provide either evidence or show us your train of thought. Don't just say "I bet the Apoc painlands will be in 9th edition". That doesn't help. Tell us WHY you think that. If your speculation is baseless (has absolutely nothing backing it up), it might get deleted or merged together with other baseless speculation threads. A subforum has been created called "Speculation". This is a great place for talking about ideas, guesses, etc.

4.) DO post scans of cards or magazine images. The following tip was suggested by "Kel": When scanning a pic from a newspaper or a mag, you'll notice that there's a distinct dot pattern in the scans that makes it VERY hard to read on the computer. The solution to this is to use an option called "descreen" or "remove moire". Every scanner ought to have this feature, so poke around in the settings until you find it, and enable it. Your scans will come out MUCH clearer, and we will be able to read the fine print better." NOTE: scanning entire pages from magazines (or more than a couple lines of text) is against copyright laws, so please don't post those here.

5.) DO quote your source if possible. If you could be fired/sued/etc for doing so, feel free to decline to reveal your source (or send the information through someone else anonymously). But if you can, tell us where you found the information. Another forum? Ebay? A friend on the inside? A magazine? You slept with Richard Garfield's friend's mail-lady? Listing a source gives your rumor credibility. If you got it from another website, feel free to provide a link. The Rumor Mill always acknowledges sources - yes, even other MTG forums.

Here are some Rumor Mill DON'Ts:

1.) DON'T create a new thread when one with a similar topic already exists - this happens far too often! The newer thread will be merged into the original (if it is convenient for the mods) or deleted. Note that you may have to look at the last dozen or more Rumor Mill threads to ensure you're not breaking this rule.

2.) DON'T post something that has already been said in that thread. If your post contains nothing new at all, it will likely be deleted to free up room for posts that add to the conversation. "I agree with the people who already posted" isn't a reason to post. If it's been said, and you've got nothing else to say, don't post. Also, if someone posts the same thing as you while you're typing yours up, edit or delete your own post so we don't have to do it. A thread flows much better and is nicer to read when every second post isn't a repeat of something already said.

3.) DON'T flame people who post a rumor. A lot of posts follow the posting of a new rumor. They go a little something like this:

"You're lying. You have no source and your cards suck. They're fake!"

Posts like that are a direct flame, and will be edited or deleted by the moderators. Anyhow - it's rude, and if you're wrong, you're going to look bad!

4.) DON'T tell people to stop flaming people who post a rumor.

"Stop flaming people! You're the idiot, you're the one who is scaring away all the decent rumors around here, no wonder we don't have the spoiler yet!!!"

That type of post is problematic for two reasons - it is off topic, and it becomes spam once the first post has been deleted. So basically, the flame is deleted, and your post sits there, referring to something that doesn't exist. Now it's off topic AND spam, and needs to be deleted or edited.

Please leave the moderating for those who have the ability - global mods and Rumor Mill mods. If you're unhappy with the way a thread is going, perhaps instead of joining in the argument, just remember what the thread is REALLY about, and respond to that.

A good example of a post, following an unbelievable rumor:

"In my opinion, the cards you posted aren't real. Here are my reasons for thinking this: _________."

That's a respecful, polite, and constructive way to add to a discussion. It gets your point across (that you don't believe the rumor) but also helps people see WHY. Your argument could include points such as a) your name is on the rumor mill goofballs list, b) the wording is way off, c) and the art is by Terrance Brun.

The rumor mill mods will give out warnings to people that do this repeatedly. It is a severe irritant to several people that post valid opinions, to have people make a post saying: "you're wrong".

5.) DON'T post "first!" Posts will be moderated as seen by staff, even if you intend to edit in content later. If a post counts as spam when seen by a staff member, it will be deleted, warned, or both. Getting the first, second, or third post in a thread means nothing. If you make a useless post, it will be dealt with accordingly.

    6.) DON'T post strategy threads.

There are far too many threads being moved out of the rumor mill. Please keep strategy in strategy, and rumors in rumors. A subforum has been created to discuss strategies and decks relating to sets that haven't been released yet. Please use it.

    7.) Don't post useless information from magicthegathering.com.

Yes, 98% of the Rumor Mill also reads magicthegathering.com, and we already know what the latest "tidbit" is. Please don't start a new thread every time MaRo sneezes. If there's already an ongoing discussion about something, and new info pops up on that website, post it on the current thread. Each new thread started should be about a rumor, not about speculation based on a guess based on a hint. If a brand new (and substantial) bit of information comes from mtg.com and there's no thread already started, then you may start one.

8.) DON'T post that you think the Rumor Mill isn't going to be able to get the full spoiler before the next prerelease. During the last month before each set comes out, we get literally dozens of posts saying "this time last set we already had half the spoiler, what's wrong?" or "WotC must have plugged up all the leaks because we're not getting ANYTHING this time!" These posts are not only annoying, but also distracting from useful information as well as irritating to other members and the moderators. We always get the full spoiler before the prerelease. The closest we have ever come to the prerelease before getting it was 2 days. Sometimes we have the full spoiler weeks in advance. But in reality, the fluctuations between sets are minimal. In general, we have several cards and a lot of info at the 3 week mark, about half the spoiler with 2 weeks to go, and the entire thing shortly after that. If it feels slow to you, why don't you go and hunt for information? Email artists, google for rumors, check eBay for early auctions. Please don't just whine!

9.) DON'T post anything, text or image, that would break an NDA or other legal contract you have with Wizards or any other company. This can get you or us in trouble.

10.) DON'T post fake rumors! Your posts and threads will be closed or deleted and you may receive a warning if we know you posted fakes on purpose. If you do it repeatedly, or we think you created the account just to post fakes, the account will be banned (and if we find out your other account names we may ban those too).

11.) DON'T link to auction sites. If you find information (like a new foil promo card) on eBay or other auction sites, don't provide a link. Attach the image or information to your post.

After posting these guidelines, some feedback was given. Summing it up, we got this basic feeling from what people said:

Everyone should treat other people with respect. If a rumor is posted which seems quite unlikely, it is okay for others to critique it, but not to flame the person for posting it. Flames will be removed. Critique is welcomed. Asking for a source is not flaming, and if someone chooses not to give a source, that is okay too. Rumors which are pretty much proven false will not be deleted, but when discussion has died down, it is okay for them to be closed, as long as everyone has had a chance to see it and comment if they want to. Saying "these cards are real, believe it" is another kind of post that
has no value, and may be removed. When in doubt, add "in my opinion" or "I think..." before giving your 2 cents worth. Basically, everyone has the right to post a rumor, and everyone else has the right to give their opinion about it. In this way, we encourage all rumors, and use logic, reasoning, and discussion to weed out what we think is false from what we think is real. Everyone's opinion is valuable.
Things have been improving, but if you keep these guidelines in mind, they'll get even better around here. Thank you, everyone, and let's keep making this forum a "safe" place to post and talk about rumors. If you have questions, PM one of the moderators and we'll be glad to help you! Smile

    Thanks!

    Your Rumor Mill moderators

If it's an imposter, they did their homework. They talk and act (and react) exactly as Scott did since the moment I met him last August. Considering very few people have had more than one or two chances to see him post publicly before now, I'd say only JeffVondruska and myself and a few other select people are qualified to impersonate him this well.

EDIT: That, and the fact that he just "blacklisted" the word SALVATION over at MTGnews, just as he threatened to do in his posts here in this thread.

    Coincidence, perhaps?
