Decisive Wish: Should it be a card "you own" from outside the game? The current version lets you take your opponent's cards or cards from someone in another game or possibly singles from the card shop's stock. Was that the intention?

so, just to clarify, is this personally "drawn" art, or just finding suitable images online? ("drawn" since some people may want to make it on the computer I guess)

Yes, you have to draw/paint/render it yourself. It would be too easy any other way.

So all these cards are just Elvish Spirit Guides?

I really hate it when I design a card and then am told that it's already been done. Sorry to have to tell you this one here, because it is a great idea.

Yeah, I know about ESG. The biggest problem with it has been that it's weak and boring without the mana ability. Extract makes more interesting cards ESG's and in different colors.

I invented a new mechanic based on a videogame I've been playing recently called End Sector. It's a trading card videogame that's like Magic only there are just 4 colors and your creatures can gain experience points. There's also a system that lets you sacrifice a card in your hand for energy (mana) to play spells. I was trying to figure out a way to do something similar in Magic. My first thought was an enchantment:

    Mana Extraction
    2R
    Enchantment
Remove a card in your hand from the game: Add one mana of any of that card's colors to your mana pool.

Of course, that idea fell through because it was limited to just one color and I wanted this idea to be more than just one card. Then while traveling last weekend I came up with the idea to make it a mechanic.

Extract (As long as this card is in your hand, you may remove it from the game. If you do, add one mana of any of this card's colors to your mana pool.)

If it was going to be exactly parallel to End Sector it would add the entire mana cost to your mana pool, but that would be totally broken in Magic. As it stands now I think it's borderline broken, given its nature as a mana mechanic.

Here are some cards I've thought of that use this mechanic. (It would probably be concentrated in red and green, with some black. White and blue might get one or two.)

    Terrify
    1B
    Instant (C)
Destroy target creature unless its controller pays 2.
Extract (As long as this card is in your hand, you may remove it from the game. If you do, add one mana of any of this card's colors to your mana pool.)

    Five-Horned Jeeka
    3GG
    Creature - Beast (U)
    Extract
Whenever Five-Horned Jeeka deals damage to a player, you may return target land card from your graveyard to your hand.
    5/5

    Microburst
    R
    Sorcery (U)
As an additional cost to play Microburst, sacrifice a land.
Microburst deals 3 damage to target creature or player.
    Extract

Omnivore: Too weak: see Mortivore. The flavor is good, but it needs some tweaking.

    Omnivore
    2BG
    Creature - Lhurgoyf
~'s power and toughness are each equal to the number of cards in all graveyards.
Pay 5 life: Remove up to five cards in a graveyard from the game. Any player may play this ability.
    */*
I'd play that in my B/G Mortivore deck. It's fun with Morality Shift.

Do we need to include a card render or just the artwork?

Here are two sketches I did of the races. I could do some full-color renderings if you want, if you could tell me what the city and environment are like. I hope they are satisfactory.

I voted to restart them. Just make sure we have a decent amount of time to work on our pieces. Creative challenges would be nice too. (I wouldn't be against you participating, by the way.)

Plains: My favorite is the one from Portal 2 by Fred Fields that has that big domed building in it. And, of course, the sunflower plains.

Island: I like the palm tree islands from Invasion and J.W. Frost's amazing 5th Edition ones.

Swamp: There are lots of great swamps: Avon's Phyrexia Swamps from Saga, Brom's barren and destroyed Tempest swamps, Susan Van Camp's ruin swamps from Portal 2, but my personal favorites are Romas's Portal swamps and the graveyard APAC one.

Mountain: I don't play red much, but when I do I usually use Rob Alexander mountains or Edward P Beard's Mt. Fuji.

Forest: My absolute favorite is John Matson's Onslaught forest: I love the lighting and the use of color. 5th's seasonal forests are pretty,

The other card certainly presents a nice fix for Mudhole. It's alright. But the name! lol! Gave me fits of laughter. I don't know if the connotation is particularly British or not, but basically this could translate as "taking a shower with a woman of ill repute". Heha.

You wacky brits with your different definitions! Slag, as I used it here, is the waste generated from mining.
I'll fix the creatures when I get back from class.

Some dwarf-themed cards I came up with today.

    Dwarven Axeforger
    3R
    Creature - Dwarf Craftsman
2R, Sacrifice an artifact: Put an equipment card from your hand into play.
    2/2

    Slag Shower
    2R
    Sorcery
Remove all land cards in your graveyard from the game. Slag Shower deals X damage to target creature or player, where X is the number of lands removed this way.

    Ore Hoarder
    4R
    Creature - Dwarf Miner
T, Sacrifice X lands: Search your library for an artifact card with converted mana cost X and put it into play. Then shuffle your library.
    3/2

    Dynamited Tunnel
    2R
    Enchantment
    Creatures you control have mountainwalk.
Sacrifice a land: Target non-basic land becomes a mountain until end of turn.

    Thanks for the advice!

The cocoon is my favorite of the bunch, and it's a reverse Unstable Mutation in the right colors. I love cards that can perform multiple functions, like removal and pump.
Crypt Seal is more of a flavor experiment - a seal on a tomb like pharaohs had in Egypt so nothing could go in or out.

I didn't notice the cost/effect order problems on the Merfolk that make it broken. Here's my fixed version:

    Jungle Merfolk
    GU
    Creature - Merfolk
You may play Jungle Merfolk at any time you could play an instant if you discard a card.
Discard a card, return Jungle Merfolk to its owner's hand: Return target creature to its owner's hand.
    2/2

I'm not sure about the templating for the first ability.

Merfolk should come back! I think that they should be Dagon-like creatures that are amphibious - they can walk on land and swim in the water.

Flame Shield: I think this should cost W to equip instead of blue, seeing as white is the more equipment-oriented enemy of red.
Blue Flames: Strictly better than Lightning Helix and way better than Ember Shot. If it hits a creature and kills it you'll get 2-1 card advantage. (-1 for the spell, +1 for the dead creature, +1 for the draw) Maybe cost it at 1RU and have it only target creatures? Or keep it at RU and have it deal 2 damage to creatures instead...
Reverse World: Overcosted for its effect, seeing as you need another card like Reito Lantern to put it to use.
Spirited Soldiers: Shouldn't this be green?
    Sapping Blow: Maybe underpowered...
Phase Into Nature: Strictly worse than Living Wish
Spirited Search: 20 cards? You could, theoretically, draw twenty cards? I think you should choose a smaller number. (5, maybe?) Also, it doesn't really need green.
