The first look article is up and there's a BUNCH there: https://magic.wizards.com/en/news/announcements/a-first-look-at-march-of-the-machine

Too much to post here individually.

Notable is the Invasion of Alara, Invasion of Tarkir and Invasion of Shandalar arts, with a wide aspect ratio, heavily implying that they are battle cards and will be orientated differently than normal cards.

More combo legends, Planeschase in the Commander decks, reprinted legends bonus sheet, booster fun reusing old frames for plane-specific cards.

And preview for Aftermath: 50 cards in 5 card boosters

Here's the thing, it's just more coherent to say revealed zone, since if say the top card of your library becomes reveled, but normally isn't.

    Realmwalker

i wanted to say that these cards could just have that comp rule. It would be something like,

Since this effect doesn't cast the card you choose. You can't use it to put the card you choose onto the stack.

Also because it says 'into' and not 'on to'?

This forum isn't for litigating how you think the rules should change to suit the needs of working you think looks better. You've been given more than enough good feedback. Thread locked.

Honestly, I don't mind the command zone for this. That would be epic.

However, there should be a rule that prevents cards from being placed on the stack if they weren't cast.

There doesn't need to be such a rule, because a card that could place a card on the stack doesn't exist.

    Dragon Wish 1R
    Sorcery
Choose a Dragon card you own from outside the game and put it into your hand, your graveyard, or into exile.

Choose a Dragon card you own from outside the game and put it into your hand or any revealed zone, except the battlefield.

You card can accomplish what its meant to WITH LESS WORDS and without having to change the comp rules. Stop using "The rules should change" as a crutch for your design errors.

This card doesn’t do anything because a single permanent cannot be a copy of multiple other things at one time. And the concept of “every major micro tick in the game, a player can change the copy mode.” Is similarly meaningless because it effectively causes priority to cycle endlessly back to the active player even when they have passes priority.

And why do you keep stapling Changeling to things?

I hadn't seen Bloodlord before, so i guess that templating does work. Its odd given that they had to change the rules recently for Serra Paragon's text adding ability to work as intended, but I guess since bloodthirst is a replacement effect as the spell resolves so the game didn't need it to remain on the creature once its actually in play.

    Rules are weird some times.

The replacement/triggered ability doesn’t really work.

First off, if Avacyn has lethal damage or -x/-6, she’ll just die again as a state based effect after the ability goes on the stack to prevent it the first time.

It’s also half worded like a replacement effect, but targets in a way that needs to be an ability that goes on the stack.

Even though regeneration isn’t really used any more, that would be a better way to handle this ability.

Lastly, Bloodthirst has to be on a permanent on the battlefield to be relevant, rather than a spell which is still on the stack.

    Avacyn, Cruel Protector 4BRR
    Legendary Creature - Angel
    Flying, Haste, bloodthirst 3.
Other Angels you control have bloodthirst 3.
Whenever Avacyn, Cruel Protector would be destroyed for the first time each turn, regenerate it. When Avacyn regenerates this way you may destroy another target creature. If you controlled that creature, create two Blood tokens.

Also creatures loses their counters when they die so I don't think you can trigger your cards ability, at least the way you want to.

The ability can check last known information since it specifically referenced the creature that died in the ability, so it does work.

I do agree that it’s undercosted for the stats and Changeling does seem like it was just slapped on for no reason.

That's exactly what I said. Tormented Hulk can be hotfixed with an additional ability.

The question was does everyone think a points based Reincarnation would fix the keyword, existing as a free play action.

The issues with this being a keyword are (1) you still have to include reminder text so you’re not saving much room vs an Old-Growth Troll version of the card and (2) the design space of this isn’t so large that you’re going to be able to make enough worthwhile cards to make it worth being a keyword.

If it’s not an ability you can make a good variety of cards with then it should just be spelled out on the card rather that having a keyword that doesn’t end up saving any complexity or learning space for the player.

You're trying to be more complicated than you need to be with this effect.

Old-Growth Troll exists and is a perfectly viable template for how an effect can be applied to another creature card without all the baggage or complexity of trying to use merged creatures.

    Tormented Hulk 1GG
    Creature — Human Beast
When a creature with mana value 5 or greater enters the battlefield, if CARDNAME is in the graveyard, you may return it to the battlefield. It's an Aura enchantment with enchant creature you control, "When this permanent would leave the battlefield, exile it." and your choice of either "Enchanted creature gets -5/-5." or "Enchanted creature has base power and toughness 8/8."
    3/3

This has the intended effect of the original card, unadjusted for power level, but with much less rules complexity.

Tormented Hulk can give a creature -5/-5 and strip its abilities or can make it 8/8 upon reincarnation.

It doesn’t strip abilities, that’s not how merged creatures work. A merged creature has all the abilities of all its component creatures and the base p/t of the creature on top.

So you either give the creature -5/-5 or make it a 3/3, but you don’t blank either creature’s abilities either way.

This does not work as written. As was said before "Mutate" allows you to cast a mutated creature spell, it is not the action of combing two creature cards nor would the card in your graveyard even change zones.

    Tormented Hulk 1GG
    Creature — Human Beast
Reincarnation (Whenever a creature enters the battlefield with converted mana cost 5 or greater, if this card is in your graveyard, you may return this card to the battlefield merged with that creature.)
    Tormented Hulk gets -5/-5.
    8/8

Now, on to the problems with this card.

(This assumes you intentionally didn't put "a creature you control" in the reminder text, because this is worse than unplayable if you it could only hit your creatures)
This kills any creature entering the battlefield with 5 toughness or less, because you merge this under the new creature and it gets -5/-5, killing it.
When the creature dies, this goes back to the graveyard and its ability can then trigger again n the next creature played.
Any creature with greater than 8 toughness becomes a 3/3, because you can merge this on top if you need to.

This, at the minimum, needs to be black because its ability isn't the slightest bit green, and needs a rider to exile it when the merged creature dies to prevent it from looping. Even then, any deck with a discard outlet still gets a free Dismember for mana value 5+ creatures, and Dismember was already played in non-black decks regularly.

    Eater of Vices 2
    Legendary Artifact — Equipment
If equipped creature would deal damage, you may divide its damage as you choose among any number of targets instead, then create that many blood tokens. This ability triggers only once each turn.
    Equip 2
We all lust for dark secrets and cryptic details—but are you so obsessed that you forget the simple things?

    Oy.
This isn't a triggered ability, its a replacement effect, so "This ability triggers only once each turn."
A replacement effect cannot target either, since its not going on the stack and there is no priority pass between when you choose where the damage will be dealt and when it resolves. Because of that, this also creates poor gameplay because your opponent cannon interact with you choosing to put the damage on one of your creatures.
Generally, its best for abilities like this to only happen from combat damage rather than all damage, or you get problematic interactions with card like Chandra's Inferno

    Here's a fixed version.

    Eater of Vices 2
    Legendary Artifact — Equipment
Once per turn, if equipped creature would deal combat damage, you may prevent that damage. When you do, the equipped creature deals that much damage divided as you choose among any number of targets and you create that many blood tokens.
    Equip 2

Its still weird that you can still hit whatever was going to get the damage in the first place, but preventing that would cause a whole other batch of text.

    It should be written as

Lands you control and land cards in your hand, graveyard, and that you own in exile have all activated abilities of all lands on the battlefield.
That was my assumption on how it should be written but existing cards that grant abilities to "all of a card on the battlefield and those cards outside of the battlefield" write it as I did. Conspiracy Arcane Adaptation Since multiple people have commented that it reads confusingly I'll change it and see how people comprehend it then.

I missed that they used that wording on Adaptation, so I guess that is the most current template.

My bad, I misunderstood the intent (and it was late). The only problem is land card in your hand/library cannot grant abilities to other cards unless you have them revealed.

So if I’m understanding, you want ONLY lands on the battlefield to be granting the abilities, but lands everywhere to get them.

    It should be written as

Lands you control and land cards in your hand, graveyard, and that you own in exile have all activated abilities of all lands on the battlefield.

It seems like the more effective way to template this is.

Lands you control have “Tap an untapped creature you control: Untap this permanent.”

The net effect is the same without having to deal with a weird cost replacement text.

The first part needs to be worded a little more specifically too, because “land cards you own” includes cards in your deck (which aren’t visible) and also lands in your sideboard, binder and closet that aren’t in the game (but can still be grabbed by effects like Living Wish.

CARDNAME has all the activated abilities of all lands you control on the battlefield and has all activated abilities of all land cards you own in your graveyard and in exile.
