It is indeed an older list. I am heavily against spoils of the vault and labman should only ever be in the SB if even in the deck at all. I have been playing this deck since modern became a format and think that this deck needs to do three things in order.
1.) Get 6 mana
2.) Get combo pieces
3.) Win on your opponents turn
Adding anything does doesn't help these factors shouldn't be in the deck
I find about 50% or more of my wins happen on my turn--either drawing the piece I need and protection to make sure I go off or my opponent is tapped out because they're trying to race me so it seem wise. I wouldn't give up being able to storm at instant speed, but your comment is concerning to me (am I playing this deck totally differently than I should?).
To note, I've been killing it, I've dropped three of nearly 26 matches in the last month. Would have been 2, but I brainfarted super hard.
Winning on your turn isn't always incorrect. I prefer to wait until my opt makes a mistake or I want to see more of their deck.
That last comment was kind of unfortunate on your part to be honest.
"

Every ad nausum list does that, hell every combo deck does deck. Get the mana you need to combo off, find the pieces to do so, and then do it. Seems like a quote from capitain obvious himself
Then i understand some people do not like spoils, its a risky card and some people do not like this line of play. What you cannot say is that the card does not help to find the combo pieces because its actually its job (and can get pacts in some specific situations). And it is an instant.
Tell me more about conjurers bauble btw
edit: unless you were talking about labman and not spoils, then forget my comment
I do realize I said that wrong. I do not feel that spoils in a risk worth taking with the deck. The amount of damage you can deal with this deck is limited..and in my list it is limited further due to fetch lands. Bauble is one of the cards that should be in ever single list. It protects us from a random discard spell on the lightning storm in g1 or it can be another draw spell. Its easy to cut for g2 against control or non-black decks.

The deck was always meant to have lightning storm. However the first time it was played the builder wasn't able to find a lightning storm so he settled for the conflag.
Is the reasoning behind this because it is instant speed/doesn't use the graveyard? Because Conflagrate seems more reliable to me (but I've never played the deck so that's just my opinion).
Conflagrate was and should always remain at least in the SB just for those match ups where the instant speed isn't necessary. It also serves as a secondary win con in case of meddling mage effects.

The only thing that would have helped this deck more would have been ponder unbanning. Naya will be on the rise we can easily out race the. Fae I dont think really make a splash however I do think WB tokens will.
So glad to see my baby make it to competitive I knew it was going to be one day. I was one of the first people to play this deck and took a PTQ by storm back in 2012 (lost in top 8 due to outstanding circumstance)But since that day I knew it had what it took to make it here.
Im pretty sure the LGS that I go to spikes a few nice cards into the bulk box on purpose. People go hunting for treasure and walk out with stacks of 2 for $.50, while sometimes finding a great deal more people walk away with extra stuff past what they would pay for a single $5 card.
My LGS does this. I tend to stay away so other people can find some good stuff as well.
pre-Scavenging Ooze, I have no idea why this deck wasn't played more. Probably because the 'pros' didn't play it and 90% of tournament players just play what they think the pros are playing.
post-Scavenging Ooze... well, I may still play it at FNM, but Ooze is going to Omni-present now. It is fight-through-able, but it makes any reanimator strategy far more difficult.
I have personally made the deck a bit more midrange and have added 3x abrupt decay main.

This is my deck list that I placed 9th with at States in MA.
To stop control decks that may be running mindbreak trap or counterflux.
